After days and days of reading I still don't know what is the better scope for me. Have a budget of $2000.
The scope will be going on a r700 platform in a .260 rem with a 26" mcgowen barrel. I plan to shoot to 1,000 yards and it be a box stand hunting rig. So weight really isn't an issue.

I am looking at the Steiner t5xi, and the razor hd 5-20. For my purpose would it be worth going to to a razor gen2 or the m5xi? Or whatever suggestions would be better.

I appreciate any advice y'all give me.

You can get a new Razor Genii with $2000, at least I have sold one at that price. I'll vote No to T5Xi, glass is not in the same league of $2000 level rifle scopes.

Personally, I'll buy a Bushnell DMR gen2 with your scenario.

Gen 2 razor in that price range is the best you can get. Huge amount of travel, great mag range, good reticle, etc.

Covert is as Covert does.

Plenty of good feedback on the scout site.

What optics are you used to using? What features are most important to you?

If you just want something reliable and best quality glass isn't a must have then you can get a lot of scope with something like a Burris xtr 2, a bushnell dmr 2, or even a bushnell LRHS/LRTS. The problem with your decision is that for a general 1,000yd / hunting rig there are tons of great options. If you stick with the bigger names it's hard to go wrong with any of the options in that $1,000-$1,500 range. And you can save some scratch for other things.

If you need top quality glass glass then step up to the gen 2 razor or save a few more bucks and get an AMG. Although at 48oz I personally wouldn't put the gen 2 on a hunting rifle.

For box stand hunting and LR, a gen 2 razor will serve you well, great glass, very nice illumination for those dawn runs and if you shop it hard with the vendors here, you can probably snag one for $2200 or less new. And if your box stand is 30 feet up and you drop your rifle, vortex will take care of you....

Good luck with your decision, the possibilities are endless. I have been wrestling with the same thing for six months. The sad part for me is. The longer I procrastinate the higher my $$$ threshold goes. Started with your 2k limit, I'm now at 3. For me I am beginning to circle back around to a second focal plane. My T5xi sits on top of a 6.5cm put together by GAP. 26 in barrel number 6 contour, surgeon action resting in a MCS T7. It weighs in at 12 lb and extremely accurate rifle, but heavy. For hunting the T5xi is not practical for me, even in a tripod. Now on the other hand at the range, she is a hammer. Keep reading & dive deeper into the data. As one member mentioned Gen II is a great scope but very heavy. Enjoy the journey.
