Re: Your longest kill...

Got to Pdog hunt a few years back. I took 3 at 906yds witnessed by my son and the guide. That was with a GAP 243 with 115dtacs. I have several deer over 700 yds at my camp with 7wsm ans 300WM. The p dogs are just FUN!!! lots of long range pratice at all kinds of ranges, all at once!

Re: Your longest kill...

450 yards with a Ruger M77 MarkII in 30-06 with factory Hornady ammo at a Muley. That was back before I knew what I was doing. I was with my boss, who I worked for at the time, and he couldn't believe it. I admit it was a lucky shot.

Re: Your longest kill...

I have some buddies that do better than I do , but have taken a mule deer at 782 with a 7mm STW, Whitetail @ 824 with 300 WinMag and have taken many coyotes out to 600 with a .220 swift and .223!

Re: Your longest kill...

Whitetail doe, 220 yds, open sight win 94. I put the sights where the shoulder met the sky and she didnt go 20 yards, right through the boiler room. Its funny, everything I have shot with my 270 has been within 50 yards. Seems like smokepoles and leverguns are the only thing I get shots over 100 with.

Re: Your longest kill...

Well, here's my new longest kill. Got this one today with my Savage M2-FV running (of course) CCI Velocitors:

325ghogcopy.jpg

Killed this groundhog today @ 360 paces; somewhere in the neighborhood of 320 yards, I reckon. It took me seven shots, and my spotter/brother helped a lot in walking me in. 1st shot 15 ft low, 2nd shot, little higher and wind good. 3rd, 3ft low and good wind. 4th, high, 5th, less high. 6th right over back and 7th...on the shoulder. I'm going to blame varying headwind. haha.

My elevation was maxed out, plus I held like 2 mils. Wind was almost in my face and I held exactly 1 mil. Bullet entered shoulder and exited mid-way back and expansion seems to have been pretty decent even at that range. Mr. G-Hog just crumpled up and died when I finally got the elevation figured out.

In retrospect, I should have been able to do this in 3 shots, but I got excited. Oh well, it was pretty cool.

Happy trails.

You the one that has those vids youtube? Either way, good shooting.

Re: Your longest kill...

250 yards (walking steps), open sights, on a slight hilltop, shooting at a button buck down, a slow, graded hill with a Marlin 30-30. My first deer ever! Took two shots, first was "buck fever," second was Marine Corps Fundamentals. I've shot them a little further but I figured this was probably my most spectacular shot.

Nope , not me.

Thanks

Re: Your longest kill...

A bit north of Douglas Wyoming,I've shot 3 antelope...464,488,603...all DRT's,with a 308 and 175 smk's...on the last trip, they had an epidemic of jack rabbit infestation,so my son and I took turns spotting for one another...there were hundreds of them within sight of the truck...it was hard to keep track of the same rabbit...once in a while I think we were even looking at the same one...grin...one of those was a hit at 546...I've never done prairie dogs, but I'd do jack rabbits again in a heartbeat...

Re: Your longest kills

How do you like the 7wsm in the XP? What kind of velocities?

Very nice shooting.

Re: Your longest kill...

My furthest is going to be 427 on a whitetail doe. She was quartered towards me and I tucked the round right in front of her shoulder. A perfect heart shot and she never took a step.

Is that redish lump on his heart/lung area where the bullet came to rest?

Nice shot!

That is where the back half of the jacket and a very small piece of the core came to rest just beneath the hide. It almost broke thru, but there was no actual exit hole. I cut the fragments out of the hide.

Re: Your longest kill...

487 yards one shot, bang flop on a pronghorn in New Mexico.

We just plain ran out of cover, animals were not easy to find that year and I had a great rest on the 2nd wire of a 3 wire barbed wire fence.

I prefer to stalk up much closer, but it was all we were going to get that year because it was so wet they were spread all over and not relating to the scarce water as in a normal year. This was before the bad drought that has been hurting NM for several years now.

Re: Your longest kill...

Prairie dog, northeast Montana, about 725 yards with a 788 in .22-250. Unconfirmed though, I saw him flop off the mound but when we drove down- no body. Lot of blood though, so I know, but no corpse.
Same trip, two at 520 with a .223, and on a later trip two at around 650 with a 6mm Remington.
All with witnesses.
