HI, wondering what your opinions are on either a US Optics SN4 vs. a Nightforce 1-4? I know the USO is more coin, but looking to put one of the two on an AR platform. I did look through the threads using the search button, but wondering if someone has any experience with both scopes? Thanks much!

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

Both are very nice. The NF 1-4 is actually probably my favorite NF scope.

It really depends on what you want out of the scope, the USO has a couple cool reticle choices, and is FFP, which may or may not be that important to you on your rifle.

The NF will be a touch lighter in the weight department, and is SFP. I personally like the USO reticle choices better if using for CQB type work.

I'd say it would be a tough choice, but I'd prolly lean toward the NF on this one, if it were for my AR.

First one(SN4) got beat up in OEF VII. It is now part of the US Optics Veteren Collection(those fine scopes who gave their best in combat zones).

The replacement has a green lit function, and a JPJ1 reticle.

If you want to use the SN4 for multi caliber swaps, go with the Circle Chevron reticle. It ranges, as well as works for CQB or perimeter defense.
If you shoot only M855, or a 62gr fmjbt that has the same ballistics, go with the JPJ1. It is SICK FAST on target, and when it's zeroed right with M855, it can range and fire without moving as the range bars are on teh ballistic ladder. Power down to 1x and it's a sick circle dot for cqb.
SN4's kick ass.
Now if I can get JBWIII to make a LER Scout Scope, I'll be set.

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

Both are good optics. Can't really go wrong either way. I have a NF 1-4x on my POF and it works great. I have the FC-2 reticle which is fast on target for close work and can be used for hold overs easily for longer range. I can hit to 400 yards on steel pretty easy with it. Had to pop it into a Burris mount at this time, funds low

, but it holds for now. Scope feels light on the top of the rifle which is nice.

Used it in a small local 3 gun last week and it didn't let me down.

Cool, thanks for the info.. Just finished a one day intermediate carbine class today, and a fellow shooter let me finger bang his NF 1-4 scope in a Larue SPR mount. Really nice...

I have no experience with either scope, but you could also check out the Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x. Much less than either and a fantastic scope with a fantastic reticle. Quick on target up close, and the ability to be accurate at range.

+1 on the accupoint, also Vortex is coming out with a 1-4x optic with daylight visible reticle.

I have the Nightforce 1-4x with the FC-2. It's a great reticle with 15 MOA of hold over. Not daylight visible illumination, but thick enough to pick up quickly.

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

I have 2 of the USO SN4 one is slimline one is not. Both are circle chevron reticle. One is in an LT-104 and the other in an ADS Recon Mount I love them both. My only complaint is the magnification ring must be turned so far around the scope body when going from 1-4 that a cat-tail cant be employed.

They were both used and I paid 950 for the first one with the LT104 included and 850 for the second. I haven't seen a used NF 1-4NXS on here or anywhere at those prices so If you are willing to do used there is no wait and the prices are very competitive. I havent used the trijicon but I have seen it in stores and played with it. They are okay but not really in the same class as US Optics. You get what you pay for.

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

I guess I am not really impartial on this issue but either way USO has my vote or votes I guess.

JBWIII has created a monster.

Hows that for some USO Love. I do have a Nightforce 5.5-22X50 NXS...In the WTT THREADS SINCE DEC 12 Ha Ha Ha.

It is hilarious how everyone will compare these two manufacturers products but no one will trade a similar power side focus USO for a nightforce...I wonder why that is...what with all the comparing going on. (did I say that out loud? oops)

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

I have both. The SN4S has a circle dot reticle, and the NF has the FC-2 reticle.

My only complaint is with the SN4S. It is a ffp scope, so the reticle gets very small at 1X and is a little hard to pick up. The NF is also lighter. Other than that it is a coin toss.

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

I forgot to add that the glass is a little better on the SN4S. It may also have a better FOV, but I will have to look through them today because I can't remember.

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

Both fine optics to be sure, I’ve used some NF scopes, but it’s USO for me (SN4s on the ARs), stronger more durable? probably..... plus, I like consistency, I have SN3s on my LR rifles (spare scopes are SN3s as well).

It comes in handy for me when I'm punching steel at 600 meters on less than your perfectly square shooting range.

Any chance you would do me the favor of fucking off?

Re: Your opinion- SN4 or Nightforce??

Thanks

I sometimes use it as viagra as well. Hang on babe, I need to go look in the safe real quick....ok Im ready now.

The key is not to look at it too long it makes a mess and defeats the purpose.

LOL

I will get started on that now, thank you for directing me to do so.
