Your take on the Remington 700 Tactical SPS 223?

I got the bug. I just bought a 700 SPS Varmint 308 and have a need for a 700 SPS 223 Tactical. I really like the compactness for carrying on my snowmobile. I plan on using it on mainly coyotes, foxes and wolves if I get a chance. What's your take on this 223 tactical? The 308 had excellent reviews, I'd just like to see what the bullet weight limitations are for accuracy and I'd like to be able to reach out to 300+ yds w/ it. Planning on topping it w. a burris ffII or a leupold vxII.

They are a pretty good shooter, you are limited to 69 grain bullets due to the 1:9 twist rate. The stock is comfortable, but way to flimsy.
I have an SPS tact .223, it resides in a Choate tactical stock, although for your plansm a B&C light tactical would be a far better choice.

Even better would be the Savage Hunter Max in .223, not the predator hunter, but the hunter max.
20" fluted barrel, accustock, a bit lighter than the SPS.
Very fine shooters, probably better than the SPS .223.

They make a really nice cheap accurate plinker. I've got around 350 rounds through mine and still like it. After I bought mine I threw away the factory stock and bedded it in an H-S police stock.

With a quality .223 round you should be able to get out 5-600 easily. The Marines qualify out to 500 with a crappy M16 service rifle with iron sights and .62 gr green tip

I put mine in a old PSS stock to float it. I worked Up a load of 23 gr.AA 2230, win primer,Win brass weighs 96 gr,and 77CC or 77SMK.It will shoot 1/2 [email protected] have took it out to 500yds.It will hit an 8 in plate every shot.i dont know why it will shoot those projos unless it barrell length.all in all its a good deal on a plinker and will serve you well.

Billy Jack, I've had mine for a couple of years now. Great little Rifle to practice with. Low recoil and exceptional accuracy for a mass produced rifle.

Changes I've made to mine include replacing the stock with a PSS HS Precision Stock, 20 MOA Base, Leupold 4x14x40mm VX III Scope with M1 Knobs and TMR, AZ Precision Bolt Knob, CDI Bottom Metal, AI Polymer Mags (these mags allows really long seating of bullets) and a little trigger work.

I am also well aware of the stated limitations of the 1-9 twist rate barrel in regards to bullets weight, but with my hand loads, mine shoots better groups with 77 SMKs seated at 2.280 then it does with 69SMKs. Consistently hitting a 6 inch plate at 500 yards with this load and rifle combination is not difficult. At 750 yards I am getting around a 50% hit ratio against a La Rue pop up target.

Overall I am more than pleased with system however, once this current barrel is shot out, I'll re barrel it with either a 1-7 or 1-8 22 or 24 inch barrel for the additional versatility it will give in terms of using heaver bullets and higher velocity.

My wife loves her's, its got a few rounds through it....only thing I had to do was to replace the remington extractor with a M-16 type extractor. Other than that its nice

Put the only one in town on layaway today. 599.99 minum 30.00 military disc, then after my mail in rebate it'll be 540.00 out the door. Lots of 308's but only 1 223. Can't wait.

It looks to be a badger m-5 with AICS mag which holds 10 rounds. I use the same with mine and it works well.

I remember the 500 yard line on qual day, 10 shots at a b-mod and I dropped one out of the black... not bragging, just confirming that not just I , but ALL Marines do it in boot camp, and most do it well... so yes, the .223 is great up to 5 or 600. Hell the M-16's max effective wad taught to us as 800 meters.
