Just picked up a Aimpoint Pro for my AR15 and am wondering at what yardage should I zero it? It'll be used primarily for home defense and for any annoying critters like coyotes here in rural Colorado. Is 100 yards where I should be? Any other advice would be appreciated as well.

I usually run my Aimpoint at 50 yard zero. Mine are used for primarily inside 100 yards. A 50 yard zero will put you like 3" high at 100 and almost zeroed at 200. Of course ammo, barrel length, altitude, etc will affect actual numbers. But I have been very please with a 50 yard zero.
You can download free zeroing targets from aimpoint. They're easy to use. They're on a grid system so you know exactly how much you'll need to move the windage and elevation. The aimpoint targets are at 25 yards and the zero is good at 100 yards. Hope this helps!

It illustrates, using a ballistic computer output, the trajectory (POI) at various ranges based on different zeroes. It appears the 36 yd zero results in the minimal verticle dispersion. There is a YouTube illustrating the same thing, where the narrator shoots from different ranges using different zeroes. The results validate the 36 yd zero.

50yd is the most versatile. Having tested various BZOs for patrol and SWAT CQB use, the 50yd still is the best overall BZO that we've found.
100yd is pretty similar to 50yd, but the maximum ordinate is the zero distance at 100yds for most loads.
Both of those loads have the ability to go out to long ranges with constant Point Blank Range/Uncorrected Sight Picture.
If you have questions about what BZO really does look the best, get a ballistic program and punch in some data. Use a +/-4" (8" circle) PBR if using Ballistic AE

My ARs with 1x optics (Comp M4s) are setup with a 50 yard zero.
As others have pointed out that will land a shot center of mass (plus/minus a few inches) from point blank to past 200 yards.

The difference between the trajectories of M855 and M193 (or any reasonable .223 load for that matter) are negligible within the operational window of a 1x optic. I mean you're not shooting for groups with that optic.
