Zeroing my rifle with my S&B 5x25 I needed to come up 8 mils 8.1 to be precise. Does that mean I have lost this 8.1 mils is total in adjustment?

Also Ballistics for IPAD, does using the rangefinder provide an accurate range reading?

It is a new scope with the turret on the first turn (yellow not visible in window) and set at zero when I started. So I assume we were at factory settings. I followed instructions and reset the turrets to zero when complete.

Yes, you lost 8 mils, the 5-25x is designed to use a 45MOA base, sounds like you're using a 20, so you're not getting all the potential adjustment

You are exactly correct 20 moa base. The rifle is 7.62/.308, I figure on a good day with the planets aligned it will go to 800 yards maybe. Will that base be a problem at that range. And thanks for the reply's to both you gentlemen.

Frank your sig line is pretty much right on, but I would add.

If you fail to heed the above advice,
Watch your back; it makes a good target.

The manual says 280 cm of elevation adjustment. So at 10cm per mil that means 28 mils of elevation adjustment? I used 8.1 mils zeroing, so this leaves me 19.9 mils of adjustment? Is this correct?

Now how would I calculate how far out that 19.9 mils will take me. I think the ballistics of the projectile will effect that calculation, but how do I relate the two to each other?

Sorry and thanks in advance, but this is the stupid question forum. I always believed the stupidest question, is the one not asked.

Let's say 19.9 is correct (you could just dial up until it stops...maybe not). For my 6.5CR, 1,000 yards is about 8.4 Mils. So I would have a good 10 mils beyond that. Looking at my data, I would top out at around 1,500 yards at 18.6 mils. I rarely every shoot past 1,200 yards, so it would be fine for me.

Thank you. I had the setup wrong in ballistics for ipad and it was giving me some crazy numbers at 500 yards. When I finally figured it out It makes much more sense to see drops of 3.28 at 500 than 32.80. But now that I understand what it was telling me is there a reason that I would want to set the turrets to .1mrad rather than 1.0.
