Question for the AMP crowd . . .

Question for the amp crowd, or any anyone else who anneals every loading-

We go through great process to minimize overworking brass- removing expanders, bushing dies, honing dies out, collet + body die (my current setup), etc

We minimize overworking brass to prevent hardening and extend case life.

If brass is properly annealed after every firing, does is really matter of it's a bit overworked?

Stated differently, could a guy anneal everytime and use a standard off the shelf Forster or Redding FL sizer without detrimental overworking effects?

Wondering if an AMP would negate the need for minimum-brass-working-hoop-jumping (this could help justify a purchase, but I don't need to justify anything).

I have a 550 but still want minimize unnecessary steps as much as possible.

Please refrain from "amp is BS" type answers- I'd like to hear from folks that anneal every firing only, please :)

Rifle Scopes Pretty and performant scope

Just got my hands on a very nice looking Winchester Model 70. It's a "super grade" .308 so the barrel is really tapered. It's .6xx at the muzzle. As someone who mostly deals with "shooters" and more utilitarian guns, I'm happy to have a pretty and classically styled gun. It might get some hunting use and occasional target shooting use, but I'm looking to keep it nice for future generations as well. Keeping in mind these principles:
  • Looks matter - I want to retain the classic styling with something like a glossy black finish that would match gloss bluing.
  • Performance - it's a nice, light rifle that's easy to get behind. I want to maintain that with clear glass that's easy to get behind. I.e. good clarity and good eyebox.
  • Range - I'm thinking tweener (2-10, 3-12, etc) but 4-16 could be good.
  • Turrets - can't imagine that I'll ever need to dial on this. Capped seems good.
  • Parallax - side focus might be good, but I'd rather not need to use it. I.e., good DOF through mag range
  • Reticle - don't think this matters too much.
  • Focal plane - don't think this matters too much.
What optic would you go with and why?

Homesteading: sloped land or flat?

Hi everyone.

I've got some cash to buy some land on which I would like to slowly start building a homestead. My area is high desert of Arizona (about 5000 feet elevation). Lots of Junipers and other shrubs/ground plants (not much in the way of tall trees, though there are some).

I'm looking at different pieces of land with varying degrees of slope. Obviously, I can grade the land to some extent. Some of my options are more or less flat.

The goal is to grow a few fruits and vegetable, and raise some small animals (chickens, goats, and/or pigs, etc).

What is the minimum parcel size I should look for, and what "terrain features" are most useful or should be avoided?

Thanks for the replies.

Will I make it to 1000?

.308
FGMM 175 SMKs
22" Barrel.

Will I make it out to a grand before it goes transonic? I was going to be working with a custom ammo company to work up a load with 185 jugs which would have easily gotten me out to a grand, but with all the component shortages, that plan fell through. I know FGMM 168s will go transonic before we even get to 900. How will the 175s fare?

Firearms BAT Machine 6.5CM/308 Rifle for Sale

-BAT Machine TR action, Wolf Precision
-6.5 CM: 26” Rock Creek, M24, 1:8 twist, w/ Little Bastard muzzle break
-308: 20” Bartlein, M24, w/ Silencerco ASR muzzle break
-Manners T4A
-Timney Single Stage Trigger
-Surgeon DBM
-Area 419 12” Universal Arcalock Rail. Comes with original sling studs for front and back.
-Rifle bedding, stock inletting, 308 barrel chambering, and action/stock custom cerekote done by SAC.

As it is currently set up, with the 6.5 CM barrel, the rifle is excellent for PRS. With the 308 barrel installed, it is a great tactical rifle. I own several BAT actions, and this is one of the smoothest I’ve felt. Both Barrels are extremely accurate, see attached pictures. Rifle has some wear and tear marks, but is in great condition overall.

Gunsmithing Red loctite on nitride parts

I'm trying to red loctite a bolt knob onto a nitrided bolt handle.

I cleaned both male and female threads with alcohol before applying the loctite. After waiting two days, I can still unscrew the bolt knob by hand.

Does red loctite have problems curing on a nitrided piece of steel? I'm able to scrape the loctite off of he threads pretty easily. Some of it didn't dry either.

Should I try something like rocksett or let it cure for a week before testing it again?

NRL22 vs. PRS Rimfire vs ???

Does it seem like NRL22 as an organization is on the decline in anyone else's region? From the New England prospective it looks like most of the places hosting the monthly COF stopped and you have to travel 1,000mi+ for most NRL22X matches. The one big NE NRL22X match cancelled due to low interest. I see that rimfire precision is a hot commodity, but is there a format war? Has NRL turned into "it's NRL22X or nothing" or has PRS Rimfire taken the wind out of NRL's sails?

Hand primer- i need to find one that actually works well! HELP ME fellas

So, I really prefer the hand primer method vs my press. I can do it anywhere, and whe watching something with the kids or for myself. That's a big deal to me, as I have very limited time.

I have a few of the hand primers that probably everyone has (Lee and hornady) and I'm just tired of how much I have to fiddle with them, or let a primer out because it's sideways or something, or struggle to get the shell out of the holder (the Lee is booger for that)

Surely there is a hand primer that just works???? If it's expensive, so be it. I'm tired of this crazy and I will sell my other 2 to help off set it.

Help me out here please fellas.

Rifle Scopes in carry on

I will be moving down south and thinking of taking multiple rifle scopes in my carry on. Scopes are explicitly permitted by the TSA. However, I am wondering if anyone flew with a good number (4-6) of scopes at once? How did TSA take it?
Also, if someone flew that way, did you keep the mount on? I am thinking of taking my mount off, as the website says "scope only".
