......... a loan of crude oil from its emergency stockpile...... ?

America is consuming it's emergency stockpile of resources at an alarming rate. One more example:

Nov 23 (Reuters) - The United States is expected to announce a loan of crude oil from its emergency stockpile on Tuesday as part of a plan it hashed out with major Asian energy consumers to lower energy prices, a Biden administration source familiar with the situation said.

Compact to Midsize SUV Recommendations

Currently in a '16 Ford Explorer and I fucking hate it. 2000s tech, underwhelming driving experience, and not the most comfortable. Only thing I like about it is the space. The last couple weeks I've been looking at '17-'19 "luxury" compact and midsized SUVs. Right now the Jaguar F-Pace 35t is at the top of my list. Also looking at Audi Q5s and Q7s and the BMW X5. Considered the Mercedes GLE and GLC but not the biggest fan. Any suggestions or experiences with the models listed above?

These are the same fucks that say this:

If you belong to this club, dump them. If you give them any money for facilities use, take it elsewhere.

With friends like this who needs enemies? Fuck them with a rusty pole.

Precision Rifle Gear ARCA Rail System

Stupid question.

I just don't understand the system. I would like to get one on my new stock I have being built but don't know and can't really find compatible attachments. Are there pic to arca conversion pieces or what? Only thing I have right now that would go in it is a TBAC bipod.

The Grid

I've spent the last three years shooting groups.
50 shots at a time, 100 and 200 yards and documenting the results.
I noticed something that annoys me, groups don't satisfy Rule #1....Hit what you aim at.
The group may be tight, but the center of the group wanders relative to the point of aim.
Shooting a group works well for dialing in a scope or checking ammunition quality,
but it doesn't meet the requirements of Rule #1.

Shooting for score is a much better method for evaluating accuracy.
But it sure does eat up ink and printer paper...that stuff is damn expensive.
Almost cheaper to buy a new printer each time the ink runs low. :(

I devised a much simpler solution for keeping track of my results, The Grid.
Section of cardboard, a straight edge and a marker, 5 lines horizontal, 10 vertical, try to punch the intersects.
Makes for a cheap and effective technique of documenting my results at 50 and 100 yards.
No proprietary targets, no printer paper or expensive ink consumed, the cardboard can be recycled.
Same effect as the USBR Green Monster X 2, all 50 shots on a single target.

Makes it very simple to document improvement over time, and ammo quality.
Not like groups where problems get hidden by the shift of the group due to wind or mv spread.
Cartridge created strays don't hide in the outer edges of the bug hole, every shot is on it's own.
Where it impacts is easily seen relative to the grid lines. Claims of sub-moa "all day long" don't hold up.

In order to maintain sub-moa at 50 yards, all bullet holes must show up less than 0.26 inch
from grid intersect to center of impact. At 100 yards have to stay within 0.52 inches.
That is not an easy thing to accomplish.

Tried it this weekend, CZ 455, Lilja barrel, 32x target scope on heavy bags, 50 yards.
Wind from the NE at 8-12 mph, my 10 o'clock.

Nope, no "all day long" there.

Then some Prime Semi-Auto, made by RWS.

Nope, those cartridges can't produce predictable trajectories.
MV spread and strays caused by cartridge problems.

Hey! Where's y'er wind flags? Those strays are caused by wind!
We don't need no stinking wind flags...it's fall. Fluff is in the air.
Seeds with the attached fluff are carried across the range, blown loose from the berm vegetation.
Extremely easy to see what the wind is up to. Watch the fluff dance up/down/left/right,
wait for it to drop and then squeeze. Nature's own wind-i-cators. :D

Jbell's 6x5 shows what happens for group size, but not how it does with Rule #1.

Grab some cardboard, draw those lines, let's see if you can really maintain sub-moa "all day long".
I can't, not with cheap rimfire ammunition. I'm going to try this with 22lr, 17hmr and 22wmr.
If you have a 17 hm2 or a 17 wsm, show us what you can accomplish. No printer ink or paper needed.
50 shots on one chunk of cardboard, no measuring or scoring needed. The bullets themselves tell the hole story.

Penzey's Spices - Guns Are Dumb

If you're a cooking enthusiast, you already know that Penzey's is the source for the absolute best herbs and spices. I've been a customer for years and subscribe to their newsletter. Then, they sent the one below on Saturday. I've sent them a nicely worded 'you're an idiot' response and will no longer patronize their business. WTF...

And guns are dumb. Yes, hunting, and ranching, and law enforcement, but even then there are substantial risks. But owning a gun as though it is some sort of safety accessory is stupid. It’s like spending hundreds of dollars to add a self-destruct button to your life. At any moment, all it takes is one pull of the trigger, and just like that all the goodness in your life can be gone, never to return. Guns are dumb.

We should all feel safe, and as humans, long before we had cooking we had weapons. But if you ever need a weapon, just look around you, they are everywhere. These days the kitchen of every American home rivals the arsenal of a good-sized medieval village. And who even needs the pointy things when you have cast iron? But guns are different. They try to sell you on the idea that guns give you control, yet with one pull of the trigger whatever happens next will forever be in someone else’s hands.

With yesterday’s verdict in Kenosha there were many headlines. Some spoke of freedom, and self-defense, and innocence, but once you pull the trigger there is no going back to what you were before. There is no return to innocence. Bring a gun into your home and it’s far less likely to take the life of a stranger in self-defense than it is to kill someone you love through accident, suicide, or your anger. A lot of the time someone wanting to own a gun is a pretty good sign that they’re the kind of person who shouldn’t have one. Guns are dumb.

I know that for many of you yesterday’s verdict and the joy it sent through the pro-gun crowd brought a sense of goodness slipping away. I get that. For me, in times like these I find cooking brings perspective. Once I came to see cooking as what it is, an act of kindness, the news lost much of its power to bring me down.

Even though the news presents itself as having its finger on the pulse of where we are at, it in reality shows little more than the couple dozen most out of the ordinary events that took place in the past day. Much of the news is horribly unkind. But to see cooking as kindness is to understand that for each and every event horrible enough to make the national news there are hundreds of thousands of acts of kindness happening in kitchens all across the country every day. Even on the worst of days there is so much more goodness. Please try to see it if you can.

If you are a hunter or if your job requires a gun, sure. But if you have a gun out of a sense of safety get rid of it asap. It is nothing more than a self-destruct button for the goodness in your life and in the lives of those you love. Guns are dumb.

Mysterious SR-72 Son of Blackbird teased in latest USAF video

Looky looky

Why isn’t the media talking about the Ahmaud Arbery case more?

I don’t get it.

3 bubbas chase down and attempt to arrest a black dude that they thought might have been stealing and kill him in the process, and it’s mostly crickets, but Rittenhouse is all they could talk about for weeks during the trial and now afterwards.

Nothing has come across my apple news on the phone, despite getting several a day on the Rittenhouse trial. Also haven’t seen anything on the news until this morning and it was brief.

I have to bring it up, Kyle Rittenhouse

I think I know how most of us feel about this but I have to check. Here is my take on it. First, if he was my 17-year old son he would never have been there, with or without an AR. It's a riot area and he's likely to either get hurt, get into trouble, or both. It wouldn't have mattered if he was asked to be there to clean graffiti, hand out bandaids, or sing Kum ba yah. Maybe some of you all feel different about this.

However, having said that. once he's there, with an AR or an Atomic-fucking-bomb. He has a right, no, a duty, to protect his own life from someone who is trying to take it from him. If he has as much right to be there with a fire extinguisher putting out fires as the people are there setting the fires, then his armed presence isn't a provocation. The jury had no choice but to find him not guilty.

When that prosecutor said that the mob was a crowd of heroes trying to save people from an active shooter I almost through my big-screen threw my other big-screen.

They called him a white supremacist. That kid had no more opinion or political leaning than my Border Collie. He likely does now.

A lot of lives were forever changed that night. Rittenhouse was chased down by a mob that was clearly trying to do him grievous harm and he ended up killing two people and injuring a third. His whole life is now going to revolve around this for the foreseeable future. He's going to be sued just about forever by just about everyone. He's never going to be able to leave this behind him and lead a normal life. Sooner or later a movie or two will be made about it. We'll see if he's the maniacal villain or the innocent victim.
