SOLD Accuracy International AT - Sage Green, Thumbhole Kit, 6.5cm & .308, Ready to Go!

Sold!

Need to put up my AIAT for sale. I bought it new from Euro Optic in December, 2021. Both barrels will shoot better than .4MOA 5 shot groups. (140g Hornady Match for the 6.5 and 175g FGMM for .308). Selling because I picked up an AXSR and have it setup for multiple calibers. Has worked 100% flawlessly, no issues. Couple tiny scuffs here and there, nothing major at all. Details below:

AIAT Folder with 20MOA Low Rail
Thumbhole Kit
Anarchy Outdoors Arca Bipod Spigot
Factory 6.5cm Barrel 1:8, 24" 5/8x24 threaded, 500 rounds on it, no brake
Factory .308 Barrel 20", 5/8x24 threaded 350 rounds on it (bought this used, only put 50 on it, gen 3 little bastard brake.
Severely pricey Cheekpiece Thumbscrews
Adjustable Butt Plate
Hoptic Cheek Pad
Anarchy Outdoors Thumbrest
.308 10 Round Mags x2
+ all the stock parts/instructions etc. that originally came with it.

***Optic, mount, bipod and 6.5cm brake not included, will ship with just the original trigger shoe, not the flat one. ***

All sold. If you don't want the .308 barrel + brake, subtract $550. Reach out if you would like any specific pictures.

I don't know much about semi-autos

Generally speaking, I'm a bolt gun guy....but I do own an older DPMS AR-15. It mostly sits in the safe, but my son has shown a recent interest in it. I'm wondering about the feasibility of swapping out the upper, adding a better trigger and scope, and ending up with something he can shoot at steel out to 300-400 yds (recreationally).

In your opinion, would something like this make sense, or would I end up spending money on something that isn't worth it once assembled?

Thanks!

My new home range

Well after buying my first load of railroad ties 6 years ago and having a life happens moment I got around to finishing the new range. I can engage targets from multiple angles of the property with the rifle, mostly .22LR, but can handle any rifle with the 1/2” AR500 steel silhouettes and gongs. The plate rack and decision tree are also AR500. Even both KYLs are AR500, the smallest only for air-rifle or Rimfire. Max Distance ~125yds.

Picked up the decision tree when my brother and I were at one of the Knob Creek Subgun matches. The plate rack came from https://www.spartanarmorsystems.com/diy-ar500-plate-rack/ as a kit and a buddy of mine welded it up for me. All the other steel targets came from Shootingtargets.com. They are local to me and after I place an order I have it the next day.

The backstop is backfilled with sand that tapers back from the wall. I put limestone down to keep from tracking all the sand that was the base. A buddy of mine has a sod farm and is going to drop off a skid of sod to “dress up” around the limestone and around the edges of the backstop to help with erosion.

Airsoft stock for Bergara B14r

Yet another thread about airsoft stocks for rimfire rifles, sorry in advanced.

Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of getting a Bergara B14r barreled action and dropping it in the airsoft versions of the M40A5 or an AICS chassis. It seems like one of these with an HMR bottom metal would be a drop in fit as long as the airsoft version is 1:1 scale. I know trying to drop the B14r in the AICS chassis might take some more DIY/fab work to make it fit since the 700 footpring and the AI footprint are different

Anyone else do anything like this?

(Yes I already know this is probably not the most cost effective idea, I just kinda want a fun .22 clone of something haha)

loaded round chambering issue

I got a batch of loaded 6 dasher using 3 times fired(from my rifle) alpha 6 dasher brass. About half of the batch started having chambering issue today.

The problem is the bolt cannot be closed.

70% of the unchambered rounds can be extracted using the bolt's extractor, the rest 30% need to use cleaning rod or some kind of tool to pull from the back.

I compared FL resized brass with fired brass, 0.002inch difference, so I reckon resize part should be good.
Then I measured neck diamater(outside the neck), it is almost identical between unchambered round and round can be chambered.
I also checked the ogive between rounds can be chambered and cannot be chambered, it is.the same.
Lastly, I checked the outer diameter close to the extractor grove between fired and unchambered, it's almost identical.

Same load has been fired in the same rifle few months ago.

And same thing happened on a 308win rifle too, only differenc is on the 195gr ELD bullet of the 308 unchambered rounds, there is some scratches, which I thought could be seating depth issue, but will need to verify this shortly. No marks on the 6 dasher ELD 108gr bullet.

But for the 6 dasher's chambering issue, any suggestion or direction would be really appreciated.

UPDATE:
I also pull the bullet out of a loaded round but could not chamber, compared the headapace it is same as FL resized brass, but even the unloaded brass with only primer can not be chambered, so it was able to fire last time, but after resize 0.002inch, it.can not be chambered, how does this make sense?

UPDATE 2:
So I pulled all of the unchambered rounds, FL resized, check chambering, no problem, expand using .242 mandral, chamber no problem, charge then seat the ELD 108gr bullet about 0.025inch from lands, check chambering, some still could not chamber.
I don't get it, how could seating bullet causing loaded rounds not chambering? And it seems this only happened randomly within the same batch.

Night Vision Eotech ELR and Bering SY-Cii photos.

I've had a couple PM's asking about the second generation Bering Optics Super Yoter clip on. The main question seems to be "how good is the image at range". I thought I would post these here for others who might be interested also.

I'm not going to call this a comparison, because we all know it's not an apples to apples test because the Yoter is in a wider FOV class and it's a third of the price. But I will say that within a couple hundred yards and under 10x the SY-Cii holds its own very well image wise. Plus it has onboard recording, is smaller, and has the larger FOV. I wouldn't have hesitated to spend this winter hunting with it if the Eotechs hadn't come along.

These pics were taken back to back. I've got more at 700yds I can post later if anybody is interested.

Also note, at 2.5x I'm loosing FOV with the Yoter. There is more past the edges.

Alpha Dasher brass case lip "oversized"?

I've come across a frustratingly large number of fired Alpha Dasher cases that will no longer chamber (easily) in the rifle from which they were fired.

For the cases that dont chamber (easily), I've found that the lip of the case neck will measure 0.273-0.2735 with a seated round...and my chamber is 0.274. As a result, chambering and extracting is not possible without a rubber mallet.

I've also found that when I neck size down in my 0.267 bushing, the lips and the body of the case neck (for the most part) measure out to ~0.267 +/- 0.0005. But, it's only when I go to the expander mandrel from PMA Tool that the lips get way over sized to 0.270 while the body remains 0.267

Reloading process:

- Wet tumble w/SS pins
- Anneal with AMP induction
- Bump/Neck size w/ 0.267 bushing
- Mandrel with PMA Tool 6mm expander mandrel (which im told is 0.242 for a final inside diameter of 0.241 after spring back)
- Wet tumble again to wash off lube
* note, this is 1-2x fired and dont require trim based on my measurments

So...my questions are as follows:

1) How to I remove the material from the lips of the case neck so that the entire neck is 0.267? Ive tried using the Lyment case prep express to chamfer the outsides...but it won't remove enough.

2) Is there a step in my process where I was supposed to address this?

3) Has anyone else encountered this with Alpha or other brass? I've also seen this relationship exists with virgin Alpha Dasher brass whereby there will be a ring around the lips that can measure 2-2.5 thou wider than the case neck body. See pics below.

4) What could cause the mandrel to create this fishmouthing of the case lips?

Modern Day Problem

I'm sitting here, minding my own business. I'm just reading some of the threads and drink a coke in a cup with ice. Then my brain decides to do something it rarely does, it starts to think. It notices my eye looking into the cup and seeing something that makes it go Hmmmm.

It now is asking a question, WHY DOES ICE MELT AT DIFFERENT RATES WHEN IT'S IN THE SAME CUP?

I noticed that ice melts at much different rates when it's in the same cup of coke. Some are almost complete melted, while others have barely melted at all.

To other brains out there, why is this? Scientist and engineers are welcome to explain too. But I suspect I'll get the Bubba's mind explaining it the most.

All are welcome.
