This is a situational ethics question. The scenario below is one which could possibly happen. You will be presented with the information then asked to choose a course of action.
There are no right or wrong answers but be prepared to justify your answer.
Here is the scenario:
You live in an upscale neighborhood in suburbia. The neighbors are an eclectic group with a great deal of diversity and education levels. The house that you live in is at the end of a cul-de-sac. One of your more colorful neighbors lives near the entrance of the cul-de-sac about two houses from your home.
This neighbor’s yard is festooned with Biden-Harris, BLM, ANTIFA, anti-gun and COVID vaccination signs. She’s very outspoken on her beliefs that all guns should be banned. Anything that she disagrees with is considered hate speech. She believes that anyone criticizing the CDC or Dr. Fauci should be put on a terrorist watch list. If she had her way, they would all be in “re-education centers” with their children placed in approved foster homes.
She’s garnered lots of media attention with her gun buy-back programs and petitions to the city to ban gun stores and anyone with FFLs from inside the city limits. She has even petitioned the state legislature to release the names and address of everyone that has CCW permits.
Your neighbor exhibits a particular disdain for homeschoolers and calls them Neanderthals. She’s an atheist with the “coexist” bumper sticker on her car.
Her husband is a very frail man, looks very unhealthy, gaunt, and effeminate. Their teenage son identifies as a transgender and fancies rainbow-colored skirts that go down no farther than his knees. Both parents are very supportive of his gay pride parties and back yard cookouts with friends crowding the Jacuzzi and indulging in margaritas and vegan hors d'oeuvres.
You do your best to conceal the fact that you like guns. You’ve gone to the point to put the long guns in cases that appear to be those which would accommodate electric keyboards with stickers like “Yamaha” and “Casio” on the outside. You do this to avoid controversy and attract the attention of would-be-burglars. Nevertheless, she’s been seen eyeing you with some suspicion through her binoculars from her living room window.
It’s just after sunset but you and your wife have not eaten dinner yet. You decide to go get something to-go from a restaurant and bring it home. You ask your lovely bride what she would like, and she replies that either Chinese or Pizza would be nice. The choice is yours.
You strap on your handgun and stuff the wallet with your CCW permit in you pocket, put on the jacket, and go out the door. The weather is nice, and you roll the windows down in the car to enjoy the fresh air.
As you pull out of the driveway you hear a group of men laughing, uttering expletives, a boy screaming in pain and a woman yelling, “Oh God help me! Please don’t!”
Continuing down the street you see that there are about a dozen motorcycles with as many burly, hairy, and very large biker-dudes causing the mayhem in your neighbor's yard. The woman is pinned to the ground by several of the bikers, her pants ripped off and legs held apart. One of the men has his pants down around his ankles ready to violate her. She's found religion all of a sudden with her petitions to the Almighty!
The husband is sitting on the front porch, crying, and sucking his thumb. The transgender, teenage son is getting bitch-slapped by a gorilla with no neck and screaming like a baby rabbit caught in the claws of a ravenous eagle.
With little time to think you need to decide. Choose one answer and provide the justification for your choice in your response.
