Well, fu© me a run'n! Laying here feeling sorry for myself.
I was burned out on 12/hr nights for the last 9 years, last 4 were Thursday - Sunday. I quit last month and took a $300 a week pay cut to be the assistant director of maintenance at our new veterans home in Enterprise AL, CSM Bennie G Adkins.
Learned, after the fact, we don't get paid for federal holidays, no benefits for 90 days-expected. An employee called in with covid last weekend, I tested negative Monday, but positive on Wednesday. Had 1 bad day, still have a fever. Missed the grand opening & ribbon cutting today. I get to go in Monday to be tested again. Pretty sure if I'm clear I can work through next weekend to make up a couple of days, not that it's gonna break me. I'd come to the conclusion that I had a natural immunity, wrong!
I'm still a pure blood, so there's that...

Selling my Mcmillan A1-3 adjustable with Hawkins M5 DBM

The stock is cut for a remington 700 short action, I had a TL3 in it and it fit perfectly fine so anything R700 short action pattern will work. Barrel channel is M24 and it appears to be cut to accept an EFR rail up front. It has a short (i believe 4.25") Area 419 ARCA rail up front for bipod mounting.

The color is a special order that I'll let speak for itself as I don't know what it's actually called. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

US Gov sent a nastygram to defense distributors to stop selling their killflashes because of national security.

I've said for a decade now, the disarmament regime finally figured out they can use loose laws, statutes, and "national security" concerns to finally disarm civilians. They lose in court 9 times out of 10, so they are now turning to frivilous rules and lawsuits to accomplish this.

First it's this, then the "no body armor" push will happen, and you'll find greater restrictions in other places.

And no, just because someone has an R next to their name doesn't mean they either give a fuck about you, nor want to protect your rights.

I have options to get ahold of some of each of the above, plus I can get lot tested ammo from Ohio eventually, probably in the eley variety but whatever they have.
I've heard really good things about RWS in general and I know a few of my local friends shoot and win with it, but they all shoot an older lot.
do you think I'll have the same luck with a new, somewhat random lot of RWS R50 or are they just like everyone else in that you really have to match the speed? because that old lot shot at like 1109 in any barrel from 18 to 24 inches, and it shot damn good in my savage, plus all their nice rifles. would different lots be different speeds like every other brand?
I'm afraid I shot a box of a magical lot of RWS R50 and now I'll never find anything that good again lol.
I've got some midas+ that's good but also 60fps slower so more drop and wind.
I've stopped shooting rimfire while I get a new gun built, but it's almost done and when it is I only have a thousand rounds to shoot, I'll be out in a couple months at best.
I'm trying to learn about who makes better ammo in general and which is the better option most likely for me to take.
this is a long range/prs toy.
if you know of any sweet long range rimfire ammo I can order online let me know.

Keep getting emails with name, address, pdf attachment. I knew it was a scam, but googled it and it’s real wide spread the last few weeks. I didn’t open the PDF obviously, but a bunch of folks did and said it was screen shots off google maps of their address and it said they were recorded blah blah blah, pay a couple grand in Bitcoin or I’ll send your nudes to your contacts.

Tell your old/stupid friends and family to delete it and move on with the day

I have a rifle that I’m wanting to cut down below 16”, can a shop do this if I take them the barreled action? I plan to put it in a chassis with a pistol brace afterwards.

So after many years, I finally paired my radian adac lower with a geissele 14.5 upper. Now I’m researching optics and mounts, mainly red dot/holos as I’m not too into lvpo or acogs. I want to have a useful home defense optic but be able to hit the range to run and gun and potentially run NV down the road. So I’m to the point it’s a buy once cry once deal. I’ve looked into the trijicon mro hd, holosun 503/515/530 and aems, multiple aimpoints, eotech and a few sig optics. As for mounts it seems like most run the scalarworks or unity mounts. Can anyone make other recommendations on some I’ve missed, add some photos of their similar setups or give me so opinions to narrow down my lists.

I had a DMR II PRO that had been lightly used since I bought it new. On the last two outings I noticed that the reticle seemed to be out of plumb. I readjusted it and took it out again. Again it got out of plumb while shooting. I sent it to Bushnell for inspection on 7/31/24. On 8/13 I received an email stating that it was indeed defective and I was to receive a new scope. On 9/5 I sent an email to customer service asking for the status of my replacement. I have yet to receive a reply. On 9/9 I called the customer service number during Bushnell's posted business hours and got a recording stating that "due to a large call volume and backlog the queue was closed. Call back later." I called back later that day but during posted business hours and got the same recording. On 9/10 I called during posted business hours and got a recording "You have called after business hours. Please call back later." On 9/11 I called during business hours and got the same recording as on 9/9. The same happened on 9/12 (today).
To summarize, after five calls in four days during Bushnell's regular business hours and one email, I cannot make contact. My conclusion is that either Bushnell has serious technical problems with their communication system and they are not interested in resolving them so as to allow contact with their customers or they have such poor products that they do not want to have contact with their customers. If the latter is true then it will not be long before the problem resolves itself because they will not have many customers to deal with.
If any of you reading this post have any suggestions as to how to get resolution to this problem or have any real insight as to why this problem exists, I would appreciate hearing from you. As of now I have decided not purchase any more Bushnell products. I guess after having outstanding customer support from Vortex, Night Force and Léopold, I have been spoiled.

Last week was real hot, like 110 degrees all week. So I didn’t go to the range. I had loaded up some ammo and just let it sit there, admiring it yet hating it at the same time. You see, this revolver I have has been giving me fits. I could never get the kind of accuracy out of it that I wanted. Which brings me to this phenomenon:

Do you remember a few years back we had a discussion about cold welding? People made arguments for and against the existence of the phenomenon we call cold welding. I know it exists because it is harder to pull bullets from ammo that has been sitting around vs ammo you just loaded. A suggestion was made to push the bullet deeper into the case before trying to pull it. This usually results in a small pop sensation which breaks the “weld”.

This has to affect internal ballistics somehow and it did in two ways: velocity and accuracy. The velocity of this ammo that had sat for a week went up 30-40 FPS and accuracy improved by 70%.

I am very happy with the revolver now but I want to study the phenomenon further. My question to you all is how long do you wait before shooting the ammo you loaded and have you even considered what is happening to neck tension over time?

I have a feeling the neck continues to tighten its grip around the bullet for a period of time until it sorta stabilizes. Someone on the internet said it’s 24hrs but I think it might be longer. This may affect accuracy or not depending on the application but in the case of my revolver it definitely does.

Not talking about cleaning the brake itself!

Bought a Dominus SR a while back. Still in jail.

Q: Which of their SR brakes catch the least patches within the brake itself when retracting the cleaning rod?

Or, put another way, which brake plays the nicest with cleaning patches/jags? Like when you’re cleaning the bore.

EDIT: Usually, I pop just the patch out of the bore and not the screwed-on thick bit of the spear-point jag, which is the diameter of the rod. As I retract the rod, the patch falls off. With a brake, the patch will probably(?) fall off within the brake.

I know I could probably just push the patch all of the way through the brake, but it’s be nice not to run the rod over the crown.

TBAC offers two different SR muzzle devices, a brake and a “non-timed” brake.

Note: I shoot 100% suppressed. So recoil reduction without a suppressor isn’t a factor for me here.

Regular brake, needs timing with peel washers (otherwise I look dumb at the range without the suppressor attached

Non-timed brake, just spin on

As someone who has never owned a brake, I have no experience cleaning a rifle with an attached brake. Obviously the brake will be red-locktited on, as per TBAC, so I’m not spinning it off each time I clean.

I imagine it’s easiest to fish stuck patches out of the the regular brake, but then (for looks in my case) it’s the fussiest to install.

I’d rather just get the non-timed brake and just spin it one without the peel washer dance, but it looks like it has the smallest interior volume and smallest port openings…but it has 8 ports vs 4.

Kinda dumb question here, splitting hairs, but hey, but I’m bored and my Dominus is calling lol. Humor me.

Heads-up on a new, smaller Match Pro ED in 3-18x50mm.

I posted on Reddit already so it's mostly copy/paste on the details here.

It’s a baby MPED, but with a few significant differences from the bigger brother.

Magnification range is obviously 3-18x now vs 5-30x.
Objective lens is down from 56mm to 50mm.
The above helped bring weight down to 28.4 ounces.
Illumination has shake awake. The controls are like we’re used to, but after 10 minutes of no movement it shuts itself down. Pick it up and it turns on like a red dot with shake awake.
The elevation knob is what you’re used to with the big brother. Same slick zero stop.
Windage knob’s different. It’s capped with a non-locking turret. Protects the knob a little more, and I figure plenty of people will be using these in applications where windage dialing isn’t as common.
The reticle is the same DM2 as the 5-30x, but subtensions needed to be adjusted a tad. A few line thicknesses had to gain some weight. The center dot is the same.
Total elevation is generous at 40 MRAD.
