6 ARC Gas Guns

Hi All - just starting to load for my 6 ARC 18" Proof barrel with an adjustable JP Gas block.

Question 1, what speeds are a good target range with 105-108gr bullets to try to get to for general steel at 800-1K? The Hornady factory ammo I've shot through it so far seems to run in the mid to high 2500s with devcent accuracy at range. The 106gr TAP is just under 2600 and the Hornady Match 108 ELDM is about 2570. Is that the sort of speeds I should stick to or do people push it faster? My plan is to use LeverRevolution primarily but I have lots of TAC and Varget as well. My very initial test with Lever however produced underwhelming SDs and average accuracy.

Question 2, I plan to shoot 99% of the time suppressed. Would you guys suggest to do the load Dev also suppressed? Or do the laod development without the can and then tweak as necessary once I get some good loads?

Thanks!!

Thinning the gun safe and selling the "guest" competition gun. It has 200-240rds downrange, and shot 140gr Hornady BTHP with excellent results.

- Triggertech Special Flat 2-stage
- MPA 26" MTU barrel with APA LB brake (cerakoted silver/gray)
- Foundation stock, with Arca plate, Hawkins M5 DBM (both short and long magazine latches) and Wiebad cheek pad

Current Surgeon vs AI Action

OK. Thanks. Not sure what would have been different in the Surgeon actions used in the milspec stuff. Be interesting to know.
I’m no expert on Surgeon. I know they sold some rifles in the GWOT. Chamber’s may have been modified, specific triggers, etc. I don’t know.

The AW and AX series of rifles didn’t suffer from trigger failures until the appearance of the competition triggers AFAIK.

I own both and like both. Different tools for different jobs. But if I had to chose one for reliability, it would be the AI.

Don’t fixate on the failure rates, they are both incredibly low. If you want the Surgeon, get it, it’s a quality piece of kit.

Tikka T3 Thread

Hi, I am new here. I recently got a left-handed t3x lite 300WM stainless steel. I would like to have it threaded. But the local gunsmith told me the barrel is too thin. Does anyone have any experience with any gunsmith that can do the same barrel other than buying a new barrel and installing it? I am willing to ship to any great gunsmith as well. My first goal is to thread it to patterns that can install muzzle brakes, such as silencerco ASR. I will be really appreciate if any of you can give me any advice. Thank you.

My T3x Lite 6.5 creed was threaded by thunder beast. They can do a face mount break using the face of the muzzle as the shoulder. Threaded 9/16 underneath. Works great.

Current Surgeon vs AI Action

The 6 split lug design and design on the bolt of the AT/AX makes the action more resistant to debris and environmentals stopping the bolt function into battery.
Care to explain why this is? I’m genuinely curious as I can’t picture the why / how of it. Is it as simple as there not being raceways? I’d think lugs would scrape / displace whatever they have to when going into battery be they 2 lugs or 6.

Firearms SAVAGE elite precision 338 LM with Razor g3 2100 for gun

I would either like to sell this gun turn key or the bare gun. I'm not interested in parting out unless I can get the base gun or barreled action and chassis sold. The complete rifle has 440 rounds on it and has made impacts out to 2754. It has a Jard trigger , lumely arms bolt lift kit, anarchy outdoors bolt handle and knob, the action has been smoothed timed along with the firing pin ramp smoothed out and the firing pin drop corrected. Gen 3 fat bustard break, ARC 1pc 60 moa scope rings, 20 moa base, Elite grip, a bag rider along with custom machined cheek riser mount (stock one also included), custom machined brass internal weights, Snyder precision external weights atlas super cal bipod with area 419 arca clamp. I'm asking 5400 as it sets but would be open to partial action trades or rifle trades. If you would like to buy it without some parts we can also work that out. If purchased turn key for asking price I will toss in 200 Berger 300gr bullets
5250 complete
2200 no scope,mount or bipod

Sled for Squirrel Zero?

I've got a high quality and fairly expensive one piece BR rest that holds my BR gun perfectly still(no not the gun in the photo), and that's about as good as it will ever get, but a nice stoutly built bipod and the aforementioned pump bag is nearly as good when using my non benchrest rifles.

The trick is that the way the rifle is held, and the least offending torque imposed on it, or I should say at least imposed consistently, is what allows for the most precision. For example if you are using a squeeze bag, and it settles more and more each shot, and you are moving it around to reposition it back to POA, and the bottom of the rear of the rifle sits differently each shot, etc, etc, then some precision is lost in that process. It might not be much lost on a decent sized target but it probably won't win you a Benchrest match either.

That's not including other things affecting precision capability.

I was struggling with my tactical bags down prone, and off benches, and using pads to raise or lower them to the most optimal height(for group testing), but that's a pain, thus why I looked and found a better solution.

Of course for dynamic shooting you'll just have to use the various tactical bags the best you can to secure the most solid positioning.
I'd rather use my tripod much for that kind of stuff anyway since I don't shoot precision style matches like NRL22 anymore.

Speaking of that I gotta show off my new Skout EVO pcp air rifle on said Fat Boy tripod. I have a wind indicator hanging off the antenna about 4" up from the scopes objective.

SIG Rattler 300 blackout suppressor recommendations

High flow rate cans like the otherwise superb HUXWRX Flow 762 Ti don't do well with subsonics.

Another thing to consider besides length is weight of can plus muzzle device.

Read up on Pew Science test results.

You'll like the CGS Hyperion in spite of the length. Direct thread and only 15.5 ounces. Quieter than even the SF SOCOM 300 SPS, plus several ounces lighter.

But, if the length is a game changer, the Hyperion K is 5 ounces lighter and over 3" shorter. Not as quiet, but still decent.
