Speaking of shooting in the summer, the prevailing instinct is to try to stay cool but wearing shorts and a t-shirt but in my experience it's actually better to wear lightweight long sleeve shirts and pants and steering clear of anything cotton. I've seen guys get lobstered pretty good on the arms, legs, and neck from going casual during the match and neglecting sun screen. I have a couple pairs of those lightweight fishing shirts with a hood that I keep up through the match that have proved to be invaluable shooting on exposed ranges in 90+ degree heat. I don't wear anything under the shirt and I was surprised how cool and dry it kept me even on hot days. Cotton t-shirts on the other hand get soaked, stay soaked, and cling to me like a wet blanket while doing little to protect me from sunburn. The pants that I like to wear are like lightweight hiking pants from Wrangler that keep the sun, bugs, dirt, and everything else off my legs as I'm navigating stages. I can say that at the end of the day wearing the full length lightweight clothes I'm tired but I don't feel as worn out and beat down as if I was just wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

As much as I like trail mix, I've had to ease up on it since it doesn't seem to agree with my stomach for whatever reason. I like beef sticks vs. jerky too for a mid-day snack but stay away from the SlimJim shit and dried fruit isn't too bad depending on what it is.

Oh hey, don't forget wet wipes.

Above your price point, but well worth it in my opinion, is to get a quality 22 and chassis that both the kids and you can use. I put a Tikka T1X in a KRG Bravo and a cheap 22 suppressor on the end. Daughter has been able to grow with it, and enjoys shooting in the backyard at 25m when she gets off the bus from school. Great training doing 20 round dot drills to build fundamentals. Even better when her older brothers come home from college/military and she crushes them on the dot drills. Also capable of ringing steel out to 300m. I can change spacers and then use it myself for positional work and wind effects. Probably my favorite rifle in the fleet at this point. More money up front, but a great lasting investment for both you and the kiddos.

If a .22, maybe a CZ in a chassis that you can adjust easily with growth. Easy to upgrade with barrels, triggers, etc. Centerfire? I would do the Origin, start with a .223 bolt head and same with the chassis. Down the road, barrel length, weight, caliber, triggers, even the chassis can be changed, modified, etc. All modular with a market for new and used.
I personally would go .22 as the venues for training, recoil, ammunition cost etc are easier on you and the young one. Down they road the loose interest, you are not out but so much and it's a gun you can shoot and keep around if the desire resurfaces.

Why settle for a Gen-3 version when you can have the Better one today. With everything needed as well.

Got my daughter’s 22LR put together.

I haven't seen an "in the field" picture of a A2 with a badger. I do have a picture or two of a A2 "in the field" with a KRG clamp on bolt knob.

One of the great things about the proliferation of chassis with adjustable buttstocks and cheekpieces is that many can fit both children and adults with simple and quick adjustments.

Don't let a bunch of guys on the internet tell you what YOU need. The info you are getting is what we as individuals think are the most important parts of a rifle and with our own bias of what makes it best.

What you really should do is attend a small local match and try to get some time behind several rifles and have a genuine conversation with the owners about the pros/cons of their rifles system.

Oddly enough there is a lot of shade thrown about AI failures but only in the "trust me, it happens a lot" scenario... All systems have failures and from my few observations of failures (trust me, it happens a lot) it is typically caused by user error in some way or another. Mismatching components, adjusting triggers outside of their listed parameters, etc.

If you ask me what the best rifle ever built is, I would tell you the AXMC is the bestest. Does that make it the best rifle for PRS? Would you even like it if you shot it? Only you can answer these questions in the end.

There are a ton of great actions out there and you won't be disappointed by any of them - even if there are features of another brand that you decide you can't live without.
