Is the .17HMR really much better than .22LR for varmints?

Isn’t funny that making a mag (even an extended aftermarket one) is apparently harder than making the damn action lol

I can see why the Hornet based cartridges would be a tougher one to get to feed but one based off 221FB should be easy to do, especially the AI version since it's almost a straight case.

If they would design the action to take a chamber bevel at the end of the barrel that would solve a lot of the feeding issues because if the presentation is slightly off the case will still go in.
My friend had his old Weatherby converted to 300PRC and it wouldn't feed well so he took it back to have the GS bevel that edge on the chamber. Problem totally solved.

Are match barrels worth it for a “new to precision” shooter?

I understand about the ammo, and I agree that quality produces quality. I’m shooting .22LR so hand loading isn’t really an option, but I do plan to test and see what shoots best for whatever I buy. 22ammo doesn’t hurt the wallet quite like other calibers so I’ll play around and shoot what’s best. But, will the match chamber be “worth it”?
I've always agreed with that sentiment.
Coincidentally my son just purchased that rifle to use for Rimfire PRS, but no mods like a barrel upgrade can be done to keep it in Production (IIRC that's the name) class. He told me he was finding out what the rifle liked and a lower-cost ammo that wasn't match grade (I think he said Aguila) printed best at target. Regardless of ammo consistency, every barrel/rifle can exhibit its unique preferences for a certain load/bullet weight due to differences in harmonics.

Cleaning Carbon ring / barrel with Thorolean - Some Questions

???

So I follow the @Frank Green “slow” method. Clean after (almost) every shoot with Hoppes, and let it sit overnight (or longer). I use what jag he uses…Parker Hale type (or a VFG pellet, which is the same sort of thing).

I still get carbon rings that develop around 300-500 rounds in Muller barrels from Bugholes or factory barrels. Then I use Frank’s JB blue paste (or 40x) method in the throat to get rid of the ring, and sometimes on the bore depending on how it looks.

I shoot factory ammo, mainly Hornady because that’s the fastest stuff for the calibers I shoot the most (22-250 & 204). I’m 100% suppressed.

Are you saying you never ever get a carbon ring just because you clean after each shoot?
Yes but I use a brush.

More 22lr down range than I can remember over the years. Never had a carbon ring problem.

Semi auto, voodoo, 40x couple of Annie’s etc

Maybe the brush is my magic ticket

Maggie’s Advice Needed on Traveling Through Indian Reservations

Ya know dude.....You could just keep quiet, try to act normal best you can(can't say the same for your wife though) and go on about your business?

If your pieces are secured in your vehicle or trailer, who has to know what your private property consists of?

My vote is to remain a "Silent Professional" as the contents of your private property are of no use to anyone but you and your wife. I'd just keep my mouth shut & drive on thru peacefully.

YMMV.
Because, generally, if you have a CCW and get stopped, the cop knows right away. Not all states are reciprocal, so you need to know the laws of the state your going through. Most SW states are GTG but its smart to know. This might help.

New scope for a western hunt?

Brother you’ve had a NF and an SWFA go wonky on you? You might just be cursed 😉
It does feel that way sometimes. Had a IOR go down during a match, and a March 5-42 that had poor IQ at 42x. Had a Bushnell 8-32 AO with lash go back, a Bushnell 6-18 quit, a USO 3.2-17 with just about the worst IQ that I've seen, a S&B 3-20 which had to be sent back twice, and I'm sure more I've forgotten about.

The amount of money spent doesn't exactly correlate to if the scope is super duper or not.

Rifle Scopes March 5-42 Gen 2 PRS Edition – FML-WBR or FML-MT? Seeking feedback from those who've switched from tree reticles

Seems PRS shooters have become super efficient at dialing fast and refining economy of motion! I would have, well did, time out on occasion if I dialed the whole stage.

As it was back then I'd hold over much of the time unless it was a fixed distance. I never won a bigger match but I got 2nd a few times. I wish I could revisit the whole thing nowadays and learn that level of efficiency.

Never really had much problems with the H59 reticle as far as obscuring but I live in AZ so saw the dust kick up pretty easily. That changed when my eyes got worse and it became harder to locate misses way out there.

The truth is I enjoyed matches like the AZPRC and the Sporting Rifle matches in Raton a lot more than PRS types. Just me and the wind via prone off bipod and bag.

Opinion on Bear Creek Arsenal?

I bought one of their bolt action uppers with a 16" CHF 556 1:7 barrel on it. I have shot a bunch of 3/4" 5 shot groups with it with 52gr handloads, it generally has done 1" or less. We mostly use it for shooting pdogs from the truck. It's also pretty fun to shoot and my son really likes it.

I bought a second one and put a 9" 300blk Faxon barrel on it and it is even more fun with a suppressor.

I feel like BCA's are good enough for having fun, hunting, and tinkering with. Cheap guns have there place.

Why don’t these younger generations pull themselves up by the boot straps like I did

Another real issue is the size of houses now, and what people are willing to accept. When I was a kid, most folks seemed to live in homes with 1 or 2 bathrooms, and seemed to be around 900-1500 square feet. New construction neighborhood down the road is currently selling 4/3 and 5/4 houses, 3500-4200 square feet.

I am at the very end of the Boomer years. Our (me, my wife, and my mom) current house is just under 1100 square feet, 2 bed, 1.5 bath, with an attached 28x28 garage. Most folks, regardless of the generation, would not choose this size place, but it works fine for us. Possibly because I designed it myself, and there is not a single square foot of wasted space. I even put the pantry in the stairwell.

I’m surprised Deersniper hasn’t commented in this thread. It’s right up his alley.

As a Hindu, Deersniper has been reincarnated many times by now and is probably a cow in @diggler1833 's field and will be sent to the butcher soon to become steaks.

You never know where he may be and you won't recognize him when you see him.

Someone murdered Charlie Kirk

Heard today she's pregnant with their third.

This is kind of far out there, but how far really? I'm not trying to turn this into a conspiracy theory thread, but I do belive big pharma is poisoning the public as a whole. To a degree, I think it may even have roots in mk ultra.

Nope, the body would be inhabited by demons. Huge difference. An empty vessel will find itself filled.
