Who hunts with a 14-16lb rifle?

You could throw a day pack over it If you've got side flush-cups and the rifle sits with the bolt away from your back. I wouldn't fill it full or rocks though. It's honestly made to just carry a heavy rifle over ling distance, but if you want a day pack I'd skip it and just get a Vorn.
There are a ton of videos and reviews on youtube. I have two.

ELR match at Ben Franklin Range in western Pa April 19th

Any reports on outcome of the match at TVP?
I would imagine Zack will be posting results today sometime on one the social media accounts he uses.
Clear skies but lots of wind yesterday. Averaged in the low to mid teens most of the day with periods of 20 plus occasionally.
7 shooters in heavy division. Some serious shooters in heavy division, one guy came in from Idaho.
I think just at about 30 in light division. Yours truly here got the win for light division, shooting my 300prc with 230 A-tips.
Zack and Tom are working on having more matches at TVP.

Pizza Mother Fucker

Here’s more of what some of y’all say isn’t real pizza… different place, but also has a real brick oven:

White wine and garlic sauce, garlic, artichoke hearts, chicken, and plain old mozzarella… Crust is the best around these parts. There are two other places that have better tasting pizzas, and are very close on their crust, but this one is the best.
It probably is good. However, you're in Tejas and I don't see no chiles' or jalapeños on it , what with that? 🤣

Bartlein Barrels Update

I have to give props to Bartlein.
My shooting partner picked up an abandoned project off of someone.
It has a 26" Bartlein 1.25" straight taper barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor that was spun up by Insite Arms here in Canada.
These are the 25 first rounds out of the barel including getting on paper.
We started load development at 40gr of H4350 with 139gr Lapua Scenars in Lapua LP brass and CCI BR-2's but we are going to back it down to 38gr and start again from there since the velocity is so high.
This rifle looks like it's going to be a hammer.
Weight on the rifle in an MDT ACC Elite Using an Ultimatum Deadline action, a Gen 3 Razor 6-36x56 and an MDT GRND Pod (No Mag) is 21lbs 15oz.
It balances about 4" ahead of the magwell.

CHINA IS F###ED

Folks have been predicting collapse of China for like past 30years , so take it with grain of salt. Besides wide sweeping exemptions (nearly half of Chinese imports) on tariffs. So it will not all just collapse , besides chinese will dodge much of it with near shoring stuff to bypas tarrifs and ultimately Trump will blink before the Chinese , not because of China but his moneyed pals applying pressure.

Note Chinese have built up global market for their product. US market makes up for some 16% of their exports compare that to 20+y ago when it was like 48% of Chinese exports , 16% (sub 10% if you count exceptions) doesn't sound like an exorbitant leverage. Besides if you google previous Trump tradewar with China ,the results were a wash paid by US consumer . Besides when it comes to trade wars there is always some lag between manufacturers and consumers feeling it. Give it a month or two .

Who hunts with a 14-16lb rifle?

TAB makes a decent, padded biathlon (two strap backpack) sling that will let you carry a very heavy rifle over long distances. Mine is not a TAB, and I can't remember where I got it but I think it was from Norway. It's very comfortable, has a belt to stop lateral movement of the rifle, and it attaches to the flush cups. Keeps the rifle in the middle of your back, and 22lbs is nothing in a backpack...

I have hunted quite a bit with a 22lb GAP Templar II in .300 WM (with a heavy scope) using this biathlon sling mostly to get out to the ambush site. It would be a pain in the ass on a stalk, and there are better choices. That GAP shoots as straight as my competition guns, which is why I want it hunting for long shots, but other than that it's not ideal, and the sling just makes it bearable.

IMHO, carrying a very heavy rifle in a biathlon sling is no big deal for day hunts, but I would never do it backpacking. When I was young I didn't give a shit and would pack cans of Dinty Moore beef stew into the mountains. Now I count the oz, and go as light as I possibly can. The heaviest thing in my pack is the shot kit.

I would almost rather carry a heavy rifle than deal with how awkward a bow is when it's hand-over-hand steep, or through dense rushes.

If you decide to do it get a biathlon sling.
Does the biathlon sling work ok underneath a pack pack?
I imagine a 100lb pack wouldn’t be great but a day pack shouldn’t be too bad I imagine.

New reloader - list of components

Re: scales… digital is much, much faster than a balance scale.

I rarely need to be accurate to more than +/- 1/10th of a grain for the majority of my reloading. Mostly .45 ACP, .308, 6.8, 450 BM and a ton of 300BLK. I only get anal on my 280 AI and 300 WSM loads, but then I’m usually measuring everything twice anyway.

We use a buddy’s multi-stage Dillon press when doing bulk reloading, but for my usual stuff, I have a couple of Hornady’s quick throw “auto charger” with several metering inserts already set up for my most common loads, and separate dispensers for my most often-used powders too.

After verifying the first couple charges, I just go to town and usually only check when I swap trays or need to refill the canister. Speaking of canisters to hold powder, check out dram worx. Their pyrex tubes are pretty sweet.

There are better, and faster setups out there, but the basic Hornady stuff work well for 90% of my needs.
