Glock 47 with some mods, 50k round review

A quick review of a Glock 47 with some modifications. It started out as a stock 47 MOS. To the pistol I added the Radian Ramjet (barrel and compensator). I chose the Trijicon SRO as the optic. I replaced the plastic sites with whatever was on sale on Amazon at the time and I added a Tacticaltrigger pack (new shoe, shorter pull and reset, minus connector). I decided to clean the pistol this weekend because I just hit the 50k round mark and thought I would give a review.

I keep a Rite in the Rain notebook in my range bag. I use little picket fences on the first page to keep track of round fired. I also write down failures and sometimes color metaphors when I have a bad day at the range. In 50k rounds, this pistol had 12 failures and 8 of them are because I did not read and follow directions. (The Radian documentation recommends 124 grain or higher ammunition to ensure function). When the pistol was new, I had some failures to eject with 115 grain range ammo. I had a few light primer strikes at the beginning of February, and I replaced the firing pin spring ($4), and solved the problem.

In terms of performance, I can easily do sub 2 second bill drills with all a zone hits with the Glock. From the holster I can do the same drill, but mag dump 20 round in 4.1 to 4.2 seconds. If I bring something like a Shadow 2 or a 2011, I may pick up a 1/10 of a second or two in both drills.

I used to compete all the time, now not so much. I shot a carry optic qualifier last year with my Glock 34 and hit Master (this pistol has talon grips and the same TacticalTrigger). I took the Glock 47 to another qualifier and shot open with it because I thought it was funny, I placed 4th out of a field of 31 and again hit Master.

The pistol does not show any unusual wear. I shoot whatever crap 124 grain ammo happens to be cheapest on ammoseek or sgammo. I was surprised at the amount of filth that came off the pistol but 50k rounds without a cleaning will do that. Glocks are fantastically reliable firearms; I highly recommend them.

SOLD Kimber Classic Custom

Nice early Kimber Classic Custom. Late 90’s/early 00’s manufacture. Bought this for a det1 clone but somehow missed that it had a ported barrel and slide. Overall it’s been shot and well used, red dot mount appears to be JB welded in place. Red dot has a dent in the hood but functions fine. Comes with two Chip McCormick mags.

$500 shipped, add $35 if your FFL won’t accept from a private party. Payment via PayPal F&F, Venmo, Zelle, USPS MO.

Not really looking for any trades unless I’d be stupid not to take it

To Arbor Press or not?

Looking for anyone with experience running an arbor press and how it compares to a conventional press. Did you see obvious results in down range performance?

I am also interested in an arbor press because it is more portable and less “work” in turn of cam over and effort.

As a follow up, has anyone seen a digital force gauge that could be used with an arbor press? I see the AMP option but I don’t want to spend 1500 on another press. It would be cool if you could retro fit a simple digital force pac to the lower priced options like K&M or 21st Cnetury.

Shout out about your builds

We are living in a time where 22lr is at its best ever! We have smiths who are bringing so much innovation for reliability and accuracy. We are seeing repeaters showing accuracy almost as good as benchrest builds. We have many actions that these builders have to do there magic with. And the barrel manufacturers are making the best barrels ever. Lets give a big shout out to your smith, what action was used and what barrel. All these companies have earned a great deal of respect!

2A State Alert: WYOMING: HB0172 to repeal "gun free zones" being voted on this week. Prefilled form to contact local reps.

Repeal-Gun-Free-Zones.png

JAN 20, 2025

Gun Owners of America backed WY House Bill 0172 to repeal "gun free zones" AKA unarmed soft target zones, is up for voting in the WY Legislature this week. The bill had been introduced in 2022 but had faced repeated stalls from antigun leftist pols. In 2024, it reached the Governor's desk but was vetoed by Gov. Mark Gordon.

At the top of the GOA article below will be an orange TAKE ACTION button. That will open to a prefilled template where you can immediately send to your local and state representatives to urge them to support HB0127.

LPVO w/ offset red dot, why?

Please help me understand the new trend of an LPVO with an offset red dot. Isn't the whole point of an LPVO to have a true 1x while having the ability to run magnification when needed? Adding a red dot adds cost, weight and something else to fail (and batteries to think about).

Why don't more run a 2.5-15 or 3-15 with an offset red dot if they are doing the scope / dot combo?

Not trying to stir the pot, but it seems a lot of guys have trained with a dot to do room to room stuff and would rather not transition to an LPVO for similar task. This is coming from a guy who has no real world experience, I just don't see the addition of a red dot on an LPVO necessary unless the scope doesn't go to a true 1x.

End of the day, your gear, your choice. Train hard. Want to learn more.
