Fuddlight, 762x39

Had a fairly new mini 30 in x39, that patterned, no matter what ammo....wolf or tula to Federal to Hornady... like 4-5" patterns at 50 yards... wasn't even worth trying further out. It was a truly terrible shooting rifle. It was intended to be a less than ideal weather, hunting rifle...it didn't make the cut.

So, I ditched it and picked up a Fightlite SCR lower and assembled a cheap upper in 7.62x39 mostly from parts I had, just needed a barrel and bolt.

Only 50 rounds through it so far, but it is exponentially a better shooting rifle than the mini... after dialing in and shooting a couple groups at 50, I took it out to 100 and managed to hold 20 rounds of crap wolf in a 3.5" group. I'll take it out to 200 & 300 yards for giggles but for me it's intended to be a 50-100 yard rifle, it seems to handle that well.

For fear of offending some...;)

I put a Leupold made, Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 on it... using an Amazon special, monstrum ultra low mount.

To further offend... it's got a 16" SS AR Stoner barrel (I believe it's made by BCA), but $65 delivered...why not?

Gas block is a bushmaster cut down A2, handguard is a UTG pro 7" ultra slim. Upper is an Anderson slickside, bolt is from KAK.

Disclaimer... I am in NY. The AR game sucks, but I've played it quite a few times. Instead of going that featureless route...again, I wanted to try something a little different. The Fightlite SCR fit that bill.

Flame away...

Chasing weight...

I recently acquired a T3 in .270 WIN and quickly got the bug, purchasing accessories before fully considering how I would use the rifle. I opted for a Gen 2 LSS XL chassis and SCS buttstock, along with a premier grip and full-length Arca rail. The scope I chose weighed in at 23 oz, which I felt was reasonable. In the end, I ended up with a non-folding rifle that weighed 11 lbs plus. It shot like a dream, and for a while, I was satisfied with it.

However, during a recent trip to Wyoming, I used a Kifaru gun bearer, and after walking 23 miles, my perspective changed. I realized I needed to rethink my setup and began rebuilding with weight in mind. I decided on an Element 4.0 mg chassis and a carbon buttstock with a folding mechanism. When everything is said and done, should be right at 8.5#. I aimed for a more manageable overall weight while still maintaining performance and reasonable recoil. At this point I feel like Im chasing this elusive sub 8# scoped rifle. When is enough enough? I feel like the cost to reduce weight is started to be prohibitive. Looking for overall thoughts and suggestions...

ATTENTION: Refrigiwear CyberMonday sales still ongoing. 25% off.

Ever since I got my Polar Force -50°F rated heavy duty all purpose jacket through Grainger, Refrigiwear has been my go-to for almost all outdoor and work wear. The most "tactical" outerwear one can obtain does not come from gimmicky "tactical supply" outlets, but places that deal in heavy construction, roughneck, maritime gear etc. They are designed to be abrasion, cut, spark, dirt/oil resistant and function through whatever is thrown at you on the job or in the fields.

Refrigiwear carries everything from inner thermals, multilayer parkas designed for personnel working inside commercial blast freezers with internal liners that function as standalone jackets on their own, gloves for winter construction and shooting, and hi-vis gear. Cyber Monday 25% off sales still ongoing as of now. Use code CM2024 when ordering.

LPVO + Dot question

I have almost universally run Eotech holographic sites, sometimes with magnifiers. I am pretty good to go with this unit to 300 yards but the limitations of the system become pretty apparent as you extend in range. I have been looking at and messing with various LPVO optics. The ones that I have hands on experience with are the Vortex Razor 1x6, the Primary Arms PLC 1x8, The Nightforce NXS 1x8, and the Eotech VUDU 1x10.

The purpose of the LPVO is for better ID of the target and to extend my competency range. I shoot pigs and predators and the day optic will be paired with a clip on thermal device (MH25). So here comes the question, would I be better off with something like a 2x10 for better eye box and just attaching a red dot to the top of the scope or canted?

I so far have not really been happy with any of the above scopes in terms of a do it all solution. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Shipping a PU Sniper (advice on packing material)

I have a few PU Snipers I will be putting up for sale. It would be more desirable to go with FTF transactions, but I am not averse to shipping interstate with any rules followed. The question is what to do about packing material?

I measure the weights and dims to be roughly 49"x9"x4" @ 10lbs. I found a site that sells foam lined rifle boxes :

https://www.cameronpackaging.com/gun_box_guide.html

A couple look like they may do the job but still concerned about how tight will be safe to ship.
- Long Rifle Box (foam-lined) 50" x 9-1/4" x 3-5/8"
- Musket Box 56-3/4" x 10-5/8" x 5-1/4"

Ideally I wouldn't mind providing an "affordable” hard-shell case but could get spendy. Anyone have any advice or experience to share on this topic?

US SS 7mm Rem Mag

G'day;

I'm looking for notes on the HSM 7mm Rem Mag as used by the US Secret Service.

The data I have at the moment is;

Winchester Brass
FGMM 215M LMP
168gr Sierra Matchking Projectiles

What i'm struggling with is the powder and the expected MV.

I'm seeing data of 2950fps from the 26" barrel, but it's just such an insanely conservative load i'm wondering if I have my data correct.

Any info would be great.

Cheers

Carso

Helmets in 2024

So had to turn in my issued helmet a while back. I need a night vision mount. Halo isn't that comfortable. Tempted to just run a bump helmet but I realize there are a LOT of dirt cheap claiming to be ballistic helmets like sub $200 wow the markets changed. Did the process lower the price that much or are they total junk. Heck team Wendy bumps are only $300 ish. So where do I start? No need for coms really just some good noise reducing active muffs and an nvg mount.
