I am currently torn between 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC, ballistically the 6.5 PRC looks like the winner, but it has drawbacks too, less options for factory ammo, more expensive per round, less common in stores (an issue in the next ammo panic, yes I reload but brass might be an issue), and the magazines are absurdly expensive compared to 6.5 Creedmoor, not to mention more recoil. I’m also concerned about throat erosion.

That said, there is no price difference in the rifle I am looking at, the 6.5 PRC has a 2 inch longer barrel and I can’t ignore the long range performance, especially if I am ever able to shoot past 1,000 yards.

Does the 6.5 Creedmoor have any more advantages over the 6.5 PRC that might sway me in that direction?

Is there a significant difference in throat erosion?

Which would you pick and why?

im looking to get a 10x geovid pro and im leaning towards the 10x32 on size but im wondering how well they range out to 1 mile or just past past? I know they say they are good to 2500 yards but im wondering on actual preformance.

Would i be better off going with the 10x42 pro's?

Does anyone accomplish these single-digit ES/SD values I read about here using Hornady brass? Prime brass?

I've been reloading / handloading for 50+ years so I have a good grounding, but I've only been loading 6.5CM for a few months after a couple of decades' hiatus from bottleneck rifle. I'm using RCSB match dies on a Dillon 550 press, Sinclair mandrel for expanding after FL resize. Scale is an ancient RCBS beam scale with weights verified via check weights - it's consistent and accurate to under 0.1 grain. Trimming to 1.191" and chamfering with an equally ancient Forster trimmer and 3-in-1 head powered with a hand drill. Annealing via Anneal-eez. Rifle has a definite preference for Hornady 147 ELD-M factory ammo so I've been using that bullet with H4350 (41.3 grains gives 2799fps at best node so far). Seating depth trials between 0.015 and 0.030" off the lands. Concentricity is 0.002" or so. I'm getting 3/8-1/2" groups @100. Sometimes better, almost never worse.

My first few 5-shot strings did give single-digit spreads and deviations as I worked on OCW workup. The frustration is that after a few hundred rounds with both Hornady and Prime/Norma brass, the overall averages are 25-30 ES and SD of 9-11. Consistently ho-hum, about what I see with factory rounds.

Is this about what I can expect with cheaper brass? I'm going to try Lapua brass in the near future, but I have several hundred pieces of once-fired Hornady and Prime brass I'd like to use to its best capability.

I am looking at purchasing a Forster Co-Ax and mounting it to a very sturdy bench; however, the bench is very shallow bench only extends 13” away the wall.

Can someone tell me when the ram handle is up will it hit my wall if mounted to such a shallow bench?… and does adding an Inline Fabrication elevated mount change the needed distance to clear the wall behind it?

G'day;

I'm looking for people's opinions from an organisational POV on Precision shooters participating in precision competition.

I've had the opportunity to discuss this matter with a couple of other instructors from different areas/organisations regarding their team participating in civilian precision competitions.

Generally speaking, higher fidelity type activities like Mammoth seem to get the nod, but PRS seems to be, no, they don't like it and don't encourage it for their members.

Primary concerns in short are;

Attitude:
1. PRS can encourage a lot of "dick measuring" and the other shooters and the competition can be toxic.
2. The mental game of the shooter is very important - PRS is a game and doesn't reflect a sniper's ability to perform their function in a professional capacity, but there's concern that if a shooter participates in civilian competition theres;
a. A level of expected competence from the shooter's perspective - ego
b. A level of competence perceived by other shooters due to the nature of their profession
If the professional is beaten by civilians, this can lead to a bruised ego and shaken confidence in their abilities.
A lot of civilian shooters can't separate their score on a score board with being a professional shooter, and this leads them to be over confident and talk down to the team guys if/when they beat them, again potentially eroding personal confidence.

Equipment:
The guns required to be competitive at the higher levels are built specifically for PRS and are becoming less reflective of a typical field rifle or duty rifle.
This can lead to bad habits and a loss of muscle memory, particularly of concern for areas and organisations that don't have the funds to maintain a higher level of range time for their shooters or are using older design type rifle's.

These were the primary areas of concern. There were some others that i believe either fall into one or the other category for the above. The primary concern was attitude.

I'm not sold one way or another but from my view in my arm chair here what i've seen either way are;

Pro
We've picked up some good pieces of kit as the competition world seems to be a really good T&E environment where in the guys chasing the points will gravitate towards the best piece of equipment - making it easy to choose which gear to upgrade to. Just look at what the pro's are running.

Con
I've seen a precision shooter running lighter 6mm ammo for competition come back and get on a 308 and have reduced accuracy as a result (Rifle is also lighter than the PRS gun). We experienced this as well when going to 22lr for training on the bolt guns. The 22lr let us get away with things the 308 wouldn't. We've seen guys go over to IPSC as well and step offline for mag changes resulting in getting pinged by RO's as well. Potentially a similar issue with PRS?

I'm stuck on the side line here and looking for experience.

Is civilian competition generally encouraged or discouraged?

TRADED SCOPE PACKAGE IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THANKS my like new Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25X56, PR2 MIL with a DI Precision competition wind dial, scope chap, DFAT adapter and Spuhr SP-5001 scope mount. I am not splitting this up and am selling as a package deal for $2000 shipped and insured. The scope is in excellent condition. I performed a tall target test a couple of weeks ago and found no issues. The scope comes with the original box. I do not have the Spuhr box but it will come with the leveling wedge and install instructions.
This is my only Leupold and the rest of my optics are Vortex with either the ebr-7c or ebr-7D reticle. I am planning on picking up another Razor.
The only trades I will take is a Gen 2 Razor
4.5-27x56 with mil ebr-7c reticle and an Mbrace, Spuhr or similar mount. The other trade would be for a gen 3 Razor 6-36x56 with mil ebr-7d reticle. I will pay up for the gen3 Razor.
As stated above I would like to sell my like new MK5 5-25X56 mil PR2 reticle and all components listed above as a package deal for $2000 shipped and insured within the continental US.

I’ve got a 16” AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor that I shoot in some local gas gun matches. Targets are 200-1000, so I want decent magnification, but I don’t want/need more more than 25x top end.

This gun currently wears a Zeiss LRP S3 6-36 that is destined for a 22” AR10 in 6.5 CM when the Bartlein barrel finally comes in, so I’m evaluating what glass I want on this gun once the 22” upper is done.

Budget is up to $2000, but realistically would like to keep it around $1500. I’m thinking I want something in the 3/4-18/21 mag ranges to keep the gun somewhat handy, by still capable of making reliable hits at the extended ranges this barrel and cartridge combo offer.

So far my list consists of
- Leupold Mk 4HD 4.5-18 PR2
- Bushnell DMRIII 3-21
- Steiner T6xi 3-18
- Athlon Ares ETR 3-18 (on sale at Midway)

Currently leaning toward the Leupold because of the glass quality for the price.

Is there anything else in this mag range and budget I should be considering?

Action, bolt, and barrel are coated with Birdsong Black-T. Finish on the bottom of the receiver shows some wear, but it’s purely aesthetic and can’t be seen when seated in a stock.

This has been a consistent 1/2” setup for me with 90SMKs, but has also shown promise with 75 VLDs. Round count is ~800.
