Hi, I am a bench rest shooter, hoping to participate in some local match.

And I have a Areopreision Solus Competition 22" 6.5CM chambered, Vortex PST Gen II, Harris bipod, and Area419 Hellfire Match.

So, when I shoot over 600yard paper target, the top and bottom length is 9 inch, 6 inch wide.

Everybody told me that is due to your factory ammo, Horandy 6.5CM 140grs ELDM, and factory barrel.

As you can see, within 100yard and 200 yards, groups are, I THINK, pretty small and tight.

But when it comes to long range, it spread.

and last pic, you see that I just checked hornady 140gr 6.5CM ELDM, and ES was 100, and SD was 25

So, what I am really wanna ask is, what is the next step? What should I do for the better performance

Handloading, one of my friend will give a RCBS press, so I am waiting for that

Custom barrel? I think i need for now, I can swap the custom barrel, So i will go to local gun smith, but

what is the best custom barrel? Proof research's one is not the custom barrel?

I purchased an Accuracy International AT in 308 a few months back from Eurooptic. I took it out and shot it for the first time last week. I am very pleased with the performance of rifle however the magazine that came with the rifle does not reliably feed when it gets down to 2-3 rounds. I think it might have to do with the tension of the spring but I do not know. Has anyone had similar issues? Looks like the only option to purchase additional AT mags right now is to backorder, so buying another one to test is tough. Are there any aftermarket mags produced by third parties that run well in an AT?

Introducing the new AGM Neith DS32-4MP 2.5x-20x (8x Digital Zoom) Day/Night Scope.

Here are my first impressions after spending the last couple days with it, both Friday night around the house, and after mounting it, and taking it to the range and zeroing it yesterday while we had good weather. I have messed with other high-end (at the time) thermals and NV scopes in the past that belonged to other people, but this is my first actual personal purchase of anything NV/Thermal related.

I'm glad I waited, because technology has REALLY come a long way, and AGM just raised the bar in a HUGE way! This thing only costs $799, and it is the clearest NV I've looked thought, hands-down... Even though it gets a bit grainy on the top-end of the magnification range, it is still noticeably better than the most expensive NV scopes (on their clearest and best settings) that I'd looked through up to about 10 years ago. And it has WAY more menu and reticle options and color options than I've ever seen on one in the past. Up until the last few years, civilian NV/Thermal technology was extremely watered down, and the really good stuff would cost you as much as a new truck. So it was really out of the average person's monetary $$$ capabilities.

Just to clear up a couple of things that also confused me at first because I wasn't thinking clearly after a really long week at work. At first I was like WTF is going on, it won't go past 8x! I must be doing something wrong???

Then it finally hit me like a ton of bricks... The scope is a 2.5x to 20x magnification scope. But the digital zoom multiplies at 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x settings. The scope has a base magnification of 2.5x (at 1x digital zoom). Which means you take the base magnification (2.5x) at 1x digital zoom, and multiply every zoom setting by 2.5 to get your actual image magnification.

So, the mathematical breakdown of Digital Zoom Setting vs. Actual Image Magnification is:

1x = 2.5x
2x = 5x
4x = 10x
8x = 20x

Here are the few cons I found after evaluating it:

1.) The only cons I can find (so far) is that I would really like to see the image quality tightened up in the higher magnification ranges for zeroing/sighting-in, especially on a black Shoot-N-See target. I had to use a spotting scope because I couldn't make out the precise location of my shots. But with a good clear high-magnification spotter/binos/scope handy, sighting it in was a breeze.

2.) The factory 18650 batteries they sent with it do not last very long at all, and only last a few hours with the "Smart-IR" feature on, and not putting it in "Standby Mode" in between shot strings.

3.) The Record button needs to be removed from the menu wheel, and recessed into the scope body as an independent button. It should be a Start/Stop record button that is recessed into the body of the scope, so it doesn't accidentally bet bumped and turned on. I set the rifle down on its side and every time I did, it turned on the recording because the button sticks out from the side, and got bumped. I think that part needs to be reevaluated and there should be an independent Record button on the top of the unit away from getting accidentally pushed.

In summation... I am extremely impressed with this unit for the price. There are a couple of things I would like to see tweaked, but overall, if you're wanting to get into the NV game for a really good price, or, you just need something relatively inexpensive for your "truck gun" that you tote around your property or woods, but don't want to drop thousands on a thermal, this would be a great option. And IMO, I haven't seen anything below twice this price that even comes close. AGM really knocked this one out of the park. I got mine from Midway USA, but there's plenty of other reputable AGM dealers out there, like EuroOptic.

So after seeing video after video of people raving about Hornady One Shot, I decided to give it a try.
Followed the directions, sprayed from all 4 sides with the cases in an old loading block that I don't use anymore. I shook it well and let it dry for about 5 minutes.
The cases had a lot of resistance, and I even had a stuck case. This has happened more than once, and I'm done with it for now.
I'll stick with my cheapo Franklin Arsenal stuff.
I do feel like I'm the only one in the hobby that doesn't like the Hornady stuff though. I guess I'm not smart enough to use it!

Hi yall, just to start off my current setup is a 16" BCM upper with a Geissele 42 super braided wire buffer spring with a H2 buffer & radian raptor sd charging handle.

Just got a Surefire RC3, went to the range today to put some rounds through it and get some training in. Noticed with the can on, it is a bit gassy with a 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock ejection. Majority at 2 o'clock. What can I do/ what do you all recommend to change up to improve my gassing and injection pattern.

I know I could do with a adjustable gas block but I'm saving that for my absolute last resort, and seeing my options in the mean time

Looking to upgrade to some new brass with my new barrel. Been shooting a Savage 24” 1:8 6.5 CM that I got started with and always just used once fired Hornady brass. I’ve had great results with this rifle especially for what I paid for it but would like to have a matching SA Origin build like my LA Origin 300 PRC in KRG Bravo chassis.

Would like to know if anyone has used SRP Lapua & Alpha brass for 147-156 gr projectiles? Findings, accuracy, different MAX loads, pressure tolerance? Pretty much decided on SRP.

Planning on shooting:
153.5 gr w/ RL26 (maybe RL23)
147 gr (maybe 144 gr) w/ RL16

Barrel:
Preferred Barrel Blanks

Been researching Lapua vs Alpha brass for at least a week now and haven’t seen any definitive claims that either is clearly superior. I do
Know Alpha SRP has standard flash hole size (0.08”) while Lapua has 0.06”. Seems like Alpha had some initial issues when it was first released and maybe up to first 1-2 yrs. Also, some people claim to not be able to get as high of velocity loads in Alpha brass as they were using in Lapua. However, others say just the opposite and no difference or same amount of reloads/firings.

Any experience/insight on deciding between the 2 would be greatly appreciated.

Im looking at doing a M40A1 build and need some education concerning the Unertl scopes. What mods were done to convert them 7.62 to .50 cal and how hard is to convert back to 7.62? Also, who does the conversion? What is the USO modification? Any help/advice is appreciated.

Hey guys, I’m looking for help on choosing my next barrel. I currently shoot a .223 with 77gr bullets going ~ 2850 out of an origin action. Iv narrowed it down to either a 6br or a 6.5 creedmoor. My .223 barrel still has plenty of life on it, Iv just got the itch. Here’s my logic and list of pros/cons for each.

6br pro’s

Still kind of cheep to shoot once up and running

low powder consumption, and I have similar powders on hand for the .223 I currently have

Stupid accurate with minimal load development

Low recoil

Excellent brass life

6br cons

Possible feeding issues

No off the shelf ammo, but that’s kind of a null point bc I’ll reload for either

Not much performance gained over the .223 , about 30 grain heavier bullet going about the same speed.

Not much more range potential than my current set up

Still may be hard to spot misses at distance

I’d like to shoot atleast 1 PRS match a year, and 1 f class match a year, both strictly for fun and for the ability to shoot longer ranges, as my ranges aren’t long. I know, I could do this with my current set up, and that’s what I’ll do in the mean time. If I had closer access to a long range I probably wouldnt go shoot matches at all. My ranges are 100 and 150 yards. There’s a range 30 min away that is 700 yards, but it’s hard to get into and I’m not a member. There’s another range 2.5 hours away that’s 1000 yards that I might join, but realistically I’ll go there maby twice a year. At my hunting camp, 5 hours away, we have 280 yards, and there’s a range near by to that that goes out to a mile, again that would be a once or twice a year thing. I’ll be shooting suppressed, and whichever I choose now, I’ll likely get the other one in 2 or 3 years anyway. I live in the north east, so nothing is wide open ranges up here like out west.
So, what do you think?

I wanted to start a thread about the Smith and wesson M&P 10 308. Ever since nutnfancy did his video on this rifle its had my interest. I purchased one this last fall and its a shooter no doubt even with the thin barrel! Thinking about doing some mods. Lancer carbon A1 stock and forehand guard. Heavy buffer? couple of titanium bits and pieces to keep it light. I put a Sig Sauer Tango 4 3-12x42 FFP in a Nightforce unimount on it and boy am I impressed. I plan to start loading up some 185 juggernauts and see if i can get out to a 1000y with it? Would love to hear other users experiences? If you've owned one or shot one please share thoughts and experiences.

Who has one? From the research I've done, they seem to be well made and have good triggers, a robust design, etc. I was really hyped about the MDR and I'm glad I didn't jump on the bandwagon. I put a deposit down for a 20" 308 M17s a couple of weeks ago. K&M has a 10-16 week lead time.

I'm wondering what I should expect for accuracy with decent ammo like FGMM. Also, any reliability issues?

UPDATE:

Now that I've had some time with the rifle I can report my experience. I started out with some Saltech 150 grain surplus, basically Swedish M80 ball. First 20 round mag through the gun was flawless. I did notice that the bolt catch was flopping loosely like there was no spring behind it. It's an AR bolt catch so I'm familiar with it. Also there was no rear QD socket on my rifle, though there was a place for one.

The next trip I tried my AAC Cyclone. This gun has a 7 position gas block. The factory setting is "5" which gives you some wiggle room for weak ammo or a dirty gun. For a suppressor, it is recommended to start out at 12 o'clock/lowest setting which makes the marking on the adjustment knob look like a "T." It is typical to end up at position 2 to get the bolt to lock on an empty mag. With my TBAC Ultra 7, the bolt would lock back at the lowest setting. Putting several rounds in the mag the action was so violent that it was trying to shove 2 rounds in the chamber and bend one like a banana.

I spoke to Ken, owner of K&M and he said that the bolt catch should be just like an AR and that I could send it back or just check it out myself and he would send me a missing spring or plunger if it needed it. I pulled it apart and everything was there, but the plunger was pretty much crimped in place like a military primer. I was able to take the right size hex wrench and "ream" away some aluminum to free it up and it was fine after that. Another range trip (this time with an AAC Cyclone) proved that the bolt catch had nothing to do with the issues I was having.

Ken said send it in so he could check out the gas system. After a couple of weeks he said everything checked out, though he was hoping there was something wrong with it since it wasn't working with 2 different cans. He has a YHM Phantom and AAC 762 SDN IIRC that he is able to test with. He put the QD sockets on the rifle, replaced the recoil springs with some that he said should be stiffer since he didn't do the compression he usually does, and sent it back.

This time I tested it with my final 30 caliber can, a TTF Archangel from the group buy years ago. I don't know if the can has slightly lower back pressure or if the stiffer springs helped, but now it does not bend rounds like a banana. It still locks back the bolt with the M80 at the lowest setting. I did a little more extensive test with some other ammo and logged the results:

(T setting is 12 o'clock/lowest gas setting and I was single loading mags 3x to check for bolt lock)

PPU Steel case
T setting- locked bolt back 1 of 3 rounds. One round stayed in chamber and had to be smacked open.
Pos. 1- brass either barely trickled out at 5 o'clock or flipped back into receiver but bolt did lock back every time. Seems to barely be enough gas.
Pos. 2- bolt locks back firmly but spent brass flips back into receiver.
Pos. 3- bolt locks back firmly but spent brass flips back into receiver

PPU Brass case
T setting- brass ejects but bolt does not lock back
Pos. 1- bolt locks back, ejection seems strong at 1-2 o'clock
Pos. 2- bolt locks back firm, some brass falls back into receiver
Multiple rounds in mag at position 1 (seemed to be best for gas) would give me a dead trigger every few rounds

M80 Saltech
T setting- bolt locks back firm, ejection is strong
Pos 1- very strong ejection, brass is thrown at 5 o'clock
Multiple rounds in mag at T setting I had several dead trigger situations, but otherwise rounds seemed to chamber and eject fine.
Multiple rounds in mag at Pos. 1 I had dead trigger greater than 50% of time

So depending on ammo, I either get no bolt lock or what seems to be overgas situation which seems to be causing the hammer to follow or throwing brass back into the receiver. This was all done with the TTF Archangel 9" which seemed to have the best chance of the 3 cans I have.

TLDR: This gun is not a viable option if you want to run suppressed unless you have an OSS or MAYBE one of a handful of cans with really low backpressure. I haven't measured the gas system length but it appears to be between 8-10" on a 16" barrel. It is likely just too short to run with a can and therefore picky and needs infinite adjustment rather than 7 settings. If you don't use suppressors, the gun has ran fine so far. Low recoil, decent controls, etc. For me, it was meant to be a suppressed night hunting gun so I pretty much have no use for it now. It's going to sit in the safe for a couple years until I can come up with a can that works for it. Pretty shitty that it's going to cost me another can and stamp to make it work when I already have 3 well made 30 caliber cans.

For those that don't know, dramworx pretty much makes all of the Pyrex powder hopper for numerous powder droppers including the V2/V3 set up. I've now broken mine 2 times.

The first time dramworx took such good care of me and this past time yet again went above and beyond to not only get me fixed up but to get my new one set up exactly the way I need it so it works best for me. Just awesome to deal with an outfit that really does want to get people taken care of and then does it.
