The post Frank from Bartlien made about the 308 barrel with like 27k rounds made me wonder if and how people are deciding when it’s time for a new barrel. I always pulled when accuracy goes south and I can’t get it back with deep cleaning or slightly re working the load or if the velocity drops to a point that I can’t keep it stable.

Considering selling a rifle I've had for a several months and haven't had the time to shoot.

Its a SAC built gun, surgeon XL action in an AI ax chassis, TriggerTech diamond pro curve, 9.5 twist bartlein barrel chambered in 338lm with a terminator T4 brake. It has never been fired, by the previous owner or by me, and there is not a scratch on her. I have 80rds of berger 300gr OTMs, two AI mags, and 320ish 300gr OTM bullets I'll include with it. I was really excited when i got this, but my life has been alot different than expected and I've been crazy busy. Shit isn't slowing down and I'd like for someone to get some use out of this beautiful thing instead of it sitting in my safe for years. $5400 shipped in a black pelican 1750.

So I've been looking at a lot of the buzz surrounding gold and silver and have found a lot of hype, depending on what you read and see in various media platforms. I agree that there is something brewing out there with all of the geopolitical, economic, and whackadoodle uncertainty in the world.

My guess is that we are headed to a cbdc in the 3-5 yr time span and I want to looking into the PM's as a way to diversify. My question is this................What if the PM's to go to astronomical levels, say gold at $4k/ozt and silver at $100/ozt? What is the exit strategy? At those levels, who will be buying back the PM's? I see local coin shops closing as they will not have the capital to buy all of that stuff back.

My understanding is that the refiners have the final say in how much metal they will accept from PM wholesalers. They, in turn, accept the PM's from the coin shops for a premium. Correct me if any of this is wrong. I'm, just trying to get insights from those of you in the know.

Some say that barter is the answer, but I notice that those espousing this idea are usually the PM dealers and shops, so they are more than willing to accept your fiat dollars for AG and AU, but won't guarantee buying it back from you. For barter to occur you need to have at least two parties willing to exchange.

So how do you see this type of scenario playing out? I can see some plus, but a lot of minus at this point.

Kollmorgen was flat out during WW2 and had a massive output as U.S. put to sea hundreds of S-Class, I think they were called, subs. The Fish boats. They were all named after fish... before they needed Senate and House support and started naming them after states and cities... anyhoo... Kollmorgen made hundreds of periscopes and was massively tooled up when along came Hiroshima and... Boom... No more need for submarines.

Nothing. Nada. No orders. No sales. No boats being built... nothing. The company went from boom to... not a single order for anything.

Knowing that the Navy would eventually have to do 'something' to replace the aging boats... and with Rickover's 'nuclear' Navy coming together (Took 9 years to launch.... something like 7 years to get a periscope ordered!)... Kollmorgen was willing to do anything to keep their workforce together. For almost a decade.

So the best optics guys in North America (except maybe Frank Cooke's works) spent 7 years making... rifle scopes (for the returning GI's who wanted scoped rifles.) Spotting scopes. Even cut glass ashtrays.... yes, using optical-grade periscope glass... to make ashtrays. To keep their people busy and their works operating.

As soon as Rickover's navy got off the ground, Kollmorgen dumped all the ashtray and scope projects... I think they sold their scope line to Lyman?? Bearcubs? And stopped the ashtrays alltogether. But the result is that for about 5 - 7 years, some of the best scopes on the planet were being turned out in Northhampton... on the optical equipment created to make high-res submarine periscopes. And were being made at 'sportsmen' prices.

These scopes have some of the clearest lenses, best machining, best reticles (the dots are fantastic)... of the era. They are head and shoulders above almost anything else out there. And noone has ever heard of them. I still use one on my Sako Finnbear .270 and it is reliable as gravity. Dead nuts. Took the longest deer shot ever with it. 270 yards and right through the heart. Dot reticle.

Anyway... next time you are on 91 going through Northhampton... as you head North, look left and you will see a really tall square building/tower... about 20 feet on each side. With four rectangular holes near the top of it. That is Kollmorgen's Periscope Testing building. Every periscope gets assembled and tested in there before it gets sent off to Electric Boat or... whoever.

And that's who made your scope. Heck, maybe your ashtray, too! And why Kollmorgen Scopes are awesome. Even if un-heard-of!

I know the USMC MC1 scopes are supposed to be amazing.

Redfield bought Kollmorgen stuff but I don’t think they were as nice as the Kollmorgen line based on my example of one.

So I've been having issues with my s20 in 300 win mag for awhile feeding. What happens is the follower gets stuck in the rear so the back of the case does not rise up and the bolt does not pick up a round. It was previously sent to Beretta for other issues and I asked them to address the magazine issue. They sent it back saying they could not replicate the issue. Now this is a pretty well known issue for early s20's esp. in long action. So much so some have been making mag kit fixes being sold aftermarket. There have been reports of Beretta replacing mags for some owners with the updated version.

So fast forward a few months and for giggles after a frustrating lack feeding at the range, I made a customer support ticket and sent in pictures of the issues, it happens with both my 3 and 7 round mags.

So today I got a reply, in like 2 days which is impressive because the first time I had to send the gun back in it took months to get a response and setup, and then they tried to have me sent it to the wrong shop (Beretta has several contract gunsmiths that work on various different issues, they tried to have me send it to a shotgun smith).

The reply was impressively disappointing. They admitted they knew there was a problem with the mags, but that they "Currently did not have a program to replace the defective mags" even though they are available. "Sometime in the future" they may offer stronger spring kits for users with mag feeding issues.

Their solution was to graciously offer me a 10% off code so I could buy updated replacement magazines from them for the ones they admit are defective but refuse to replace, and then closed my support ticket.

This was briefly mounted on a Desert Tech SRS. Maybe 250 rounds through it. They are very hard to see, but there are very faint scope ring marks where it was mounted. It was mounted using a Wheeler torque screwdriver, so no rings put on like a vice. The scope is as next to being new as it can be. It comes with all of the original paperwork and materials, in the original box. I am the original owner.

This scope has a tremendous amount of elevation which is great for longer ranges and different calibers. It is ideal for a multi caliber rifle like a Desert Tech

The scope is in immaculate condition, and the glass is perfect with no scratches. $2,700 shipped and insured to your front door.
