Interesting article on American /Western air inferiority

Not up to speed on the how our latest air craft stack up against other nations but I do understand we lack munitions and capacity to make more quickly.

How bad is this idea?

So after having a seekins hit and loving it I decided that I want a light weight switch barrel dedicated hunting rifle and this is what I’ve come up with but I’m curious in what ways do you see this going wrong before I run up to Altus and talk to them about making it happen. I originally thought about a terminus Zeus but that’s a really heavy action and counter productive to the light weight aspect so with lots of research I found a light weight tikka t3x action with a wto switch lug would do the trick. I know that the bolt would be the holdup but there’s an outfit in Canada that makes tikka bolts where you can change the bolt face. All of this with carbon barrels and a hunter26 stock should make for a really nice and really light setup “THEORETICALLY!”. And that’s why I’m here, are you guys laughing and thinking “that’ll never work” and if so what am I overlooking?
Calibers I would like to shoot with it are
22creedmore

How does Sg affect terminal performance?

I've read some claims that Sg affects terminal performance. For example, Hammer Bullets claims:

"Each of our bullets has a required minimum twist rate that is calculated at sea level using the Miller Twist Formula. We use sea level as the standard to ensure that there is enough rpm’s for proper terminal performance. While the Miller Formula calculates stability for ballistic flight, we are most concerned with hunting performance and ensuring that there is enough stability for proper terminal performance. The required minimum twist rate is based on a gyroscopic stability factor (SG) of 1.5. An SG of 1.5 or higher is needed to achieve full bc value and expected terminal ballistics. In our impact testing for terminal performance, we have found that marginal SG (less than 1.5sg calculated at sea level) hinders a bullets ability to stay on track and open reliably for proper terminal performance."

In short, they're claiming their bullets may be stable in flight with a Miller-formula Sg of 1.5 at lower atmospheric pressures (high altitude, warmer temps), but unless the Sg would be 1.5 at sea-level, then the bullet may not have enough stability for terminal performance even at lower pressures.

I shoot at high altitude. The last mule deer was taken at 9200 feet. Achieving a Miller-formula Sg of 1.5 and in-flight stability is easier in these conditions, and I can use longer bullets than I could if I were at sea-level.

If the Miller formula defines what's required for in-flight stability, how can we quantify what's required for terminal performance? At sea-level, a bullet that requires 1:8 twist for a 1.5 Sg might only require a 1:10 twist at 9000 feet for the same Sg. But what will happen to terminal performance in game?

The Philippine vice president publicly threatens to have the president assassinatedBy JIM GOMEZAssociated PressThe Associated PressMANILA, Philippines
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte said Saturday she has contracted an assassin to kill the president, his wife and the House of Representatives speaker if she herself is killed, in a brazen public threat that she warned was not a joke.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin referred the “active threat” against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to an elite presidential guards force “for immediate proper action.” It was not immediately clear what actions would be taken against the vice president.
The Presidential Security Command immediately boosted Marcos’ security and said it considered the vice president’s threat, which was “made so brazenly in public,” a national security issue.
The security force said it was “coordinating with law enforcement agencies to detect, deter, and defend against any and all threats to the president and the first family.”
Marcos ran with Duterte as his vice-presidential running mate in the May 2022 elections and both won with landslide victories on a campaign call of national unity.
The two leaders and their camps, however, rapidly had a bitter falling-out over key differences, including in their approaches to China’s aggressive actions in the disputed South China Sea. Duterte resigned from the Marcos Cabinet in June as education secretary and head of an anti-insurgency body.
Like her equally outspoken father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, the vice president became a vocal critic of Marcos, his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the president’s ally and cousin, accusing them of corruption, incompetence and politically persecuting the Duterte family and its close supporters.
Her latest tirade was set off by the decision by House members allied with Romualdez and Marcos to detain her chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez, who was accused of hampering a congressional inquiry into the possible misuse of her budget as vice president and education secretary. Lopez was later transferred to a hospital after falling ill and wept when she heard of a plan to temporarily lock her up in a women’s prison.
In a pre-dawn online news conference, an angry Sara Duterte accused Marcos of incompetence as a president and of being a liar, along with his wife and the House speaker in expletives-laden remarks.
When asked about concerns over her security, the 46-year-old lawyer suggested there was an unspecified plot to kill her. “Don’t worry about my security because I’ve talked with somebody. I said ‘if I’m killed, you’ll kill BBM, Liza Araneta and Martin Romualdez. No joke, no joke,’” the vice president said without elaborating and using the initials that many use to call the president.
“I’ve given my order, ‘If I die, don’t stop until you’ve killed them.’ And he said, ’yes,’” the vice president said.
Under the Philippine penal code, such public remarks may constitute a crime of threatening to inflict a wrong on a person or his family and is punishable by a jail term and fine.
Amid the political divisions, military chief Gen. Romeo Brawner issued a statement with an assurance that the 160,000-member Armed Forces of the Philippines would remain nonpartisan “with utmost respect for our democratic institutions and civilian authority.”
“We call for calm and resolve,” Brawner said. “We reiterate our need to stand together against those who will try to break our bonds as Filipinos.”
The vice president is the daughter of Marcos’ predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte, whose police-enforced anti-drugs crackdown when he was a city mayor and later as president left thousands of mostly petty drug suspects dead in killings that the International Criminal Court has been investigating as a possible crime against humanity.
The former president denied authorizing extrajudicial killings under his crackdown but has given conflicting statements. He told a public Philippine Senate inquiry last month that he had maintained a “death squad” of gangsters to kill other criminals when he was mayor of southern Davao city.

Zermatt Ti3

I just got the new Ti action Friday. This originally started as a TL3 rifle but wanted to shave some more weight off the whole rig and an easy way was to go Titanium. The barrel was easily swapped over from the standard TL3 without any accuracy issues.

While I was at it, I had them do a run of a dozen extended scope rails so I could make use of my clipon thermals and shave even more weight. I have several scopes that will work, for now, the NF 2.5-20 is on for today, but I also have a few Atacr 1-9 and an Athlon 2-12 I will also be playing with.

The Voodoo S is super impressive, but I also have a TigIr 6M I will also be using.

I will weight the total package here in the next week, but as it sits, this FEELS about perfect.

First Long Range Rifle…Defiance Deviant…Any Tips Appreciated

First post here! I’ve always wanted a long range bolt action rifle, and decided to sell an AR and pick one up.

My search took me to Gunbroker where I found an interesting rifle. After purchasing it, I started doing some digging on my gamble.

I called Defiance and they have gave me the name of the builder it was shipped to - Gene Gordner of Kalispell. He was the head gunsmith at Montana Custom Rifles and Kilimanjaro Rifles before retiring. I spoke with him, super nice guy, and said he built it back in 2014 and most likely used a Bartlein or Liljin barrel and said he most likely wouldn’t have fitted the stock.

This is what I figured out:

Defiance Deviant action
26” Bartlein or Liljin bull barrel 1-8 twist with American Precision Arms Little Bastard muzzle brake, 6.5 Creedmoor
Manners MCS-T6a
American Precision bottom metal
Triggertech Special trigger
Voted Viper PST Gen 2 with American Precision rings

It weighs an absolute ton, over 16lbs!

Anyway, before I go out and buy anything else, I wanted to get thoughts on the following:

Bipod - Atlas or other and which model
Ammo - what’s the best way to select ammo to shoot to see what it likes? I won’t be handloading…yet
Shooting bag - what are people’s go to

I’m looking forward to learning and always appreciate tips from those who’ve been shooting for years.

Thanks in advance

Left Hand Sale Classic Remington 700 BDL .270 Left Handed

So, believe it or not I was raised to shoot left handed. I have since realized the err of my ways and have converted to right handedism.

Here is my second available factory left handed rifle. This is a classic Remington 700 BDL in America's classic hunting cartridge, .270 Winchester. The rifle has a Leupold 3-9 Vari X IIc With crystal clear glass on old school weaver mounts that still give you access to the iron sights.

The rifle is in good shape but it isn’t brand new. There are a couple marks on the stock, however the bluing and optic are in great shape!

I’m looking for 1150 cash or will consider trades, let me know if any questions you may have! Thanks!
