Optics SOLD Price Drop: Like New Vortex PST Gen II 3-15x44 MOA EBR-7C $500+shipping

Like the last few I've sold on here, same story; bought this when the corona took over, realized that my vision isn't what it used to be and now I need more mag. This scope has seen one range trip, then sat in the arms room the last three or so years. For the money this is a great scope. Comes with the original box, all the paperwork/instructions/sunshade, custom deep MKM caps (to prevent the reticle focus ring from turning) and an Anarchy Outdoors throw lever.

No trades. 500 + shipping.

Beginner Could Use Some Advice

I have a nice 6.5 PRC hunting rifle zeroed at 100 yds with a quality long range mil scope. I have a nice range finder. I would like to begin practicing shooting at various longer distances. Other than the initial zeroing, I haven't learned yet how to adjust the turrets for the varying distances my range finder will provide. I assume the modern way of getting this information is using a Kestrel and a ballistics program. I was thinking about buying the Kestrel 5700 Hornady, but I have questions and would love experienced advice.

1. I believe the Kestrel Hornady will replace the need for the Hornady app on my phone, though perhaps you can use both? Is there a reason to use both?
2. I believe the Kestrel Elite has the Applied Ballistics program built in. Does that eliminate the need or desire for an Applied Ballistics phone app?
3. If I bought the Kestrel Elite instead of the Hornady version, would the Elite still connect and transfer data to the Hornady phone app? Would that be a way to have access to both the Applied Ballistics approach on the Kestrel and the Hornady approach on your phone at the same time? Kind of like getting two for one?
4. Is there a clear winner between AB and Hornady, or are they both really good?
5. I also plan to start reloading .223, 300BLK and perhaps 6.5 PRC. When I start shooting my own rifle reloads, would a chronograph be pretty much essential? Should I buy one now when just shooting factory ammo?

Thanks. Any advice is welcome.

Factory 5.56 Hornady 73 ELD M too hot?

About 5 years ago I bought a bunch of Hornady 5.56 73 grain ELD M ammo. It shot under an MOA in the Stag Varminter with the 5.56 chambered 24” 1:8 barrel.
IMG_5728.jpeg

I didn’t see any of the usual pressure signs so I bought a shitload more.

I took it out recently and tested it again with a different rifle with Krieger 1:7 24” barrel, 5.56 chamber.
Screenshot 2024-07-15 at 11.21.59.jpeg

It grouped about the same as before. No flattened or cratered primers.

Is this ammo too hot? Am I prematurely wearing out components?

Rifle Competition Events Production

Please don’t take this as a bashing of MPA, the fine rifles from GAP are just as expensive Both the MPA and the GPA are Really Nice Rifles. I own two and consider them to be the finest rilles I have ever owned including a true custom hunting rifle and an entire bevy of custom XP-100’s. But

Production

Lets face Gentleman, (and Ladies) production is Total JOKE. 3K for the rifle, 2.5K for the scope, at least another thousand for accessories. After tax and shipping and everything else, just about $7000.00. It’s so bad, MPA does not even really promote their custom rifles, since, the “production” rifles offer everything that the custom rifles offer except for a fancy cerekote. (Which for a few extra bucks, you can have). No question, it’s a nice rifle. Available in Matrix, Vanquish or ESR chassis. its a very, very nice rifle.

Solution….Forget Production. Go, One Design. Most popular true production rifle is the Ruger Precision Rifle. Not their custom shop model, just the plain old as you get it from the factory RPR. Choose a caliber. I would bet today’s most popular is the 6.5 Creedmoor. Offer an option of the .308, and that’s it. You can choose one of three models of scopes, all of which must cost less than $1500.00, add a Harris or Magpul bipod. That’s that. Nothing more, nothing changed, And nothing can be added at a later date. (Either by rules or by owner., however, the standard weight and length barrels can be replaced by Ruger as needed).

This

IMG_0838.jpeg

Not this

IMG_1343.jpeg

And especially not as expensive as this. (I really like all of my MPA’s, so, please don’t feel I am picking on them. )

SOLD WTT - Spark Munitions 6.5 Creedmoor 142gr SMK 348rds

TRADE DEAL WORKED OUT ALREADY

Yes, this is a "want to trade" ad for ammo. Here's what I have:

Spark Munitions (this was Peterson's in-house ammo with Peterson brass) 6.5 Creedmoor with 142gr Sierra MatckKing that have been tipped for uniformity. I bought this ammo for my accuracy international rifles but have sold them and the only 6.5 Creedmoor I have now is an LMT MWS which does quite a number on brass so I'd rather offer this up to a bolt gun shooter who will re-use the superb Peterson brass. I have 7 boxes of 50, but one box is opened and two rounds fired, have one piece of brass but lost the other.

What I would like to trade for is:
  • Mk262 5.56 with 77gr SMK
  • 300 BLK subsonic with 220gr HPBT (SMK or similar)
  • Hornady 6mm ARC 108gr ELD-M
  • Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr ELD-M
  • 357 Magnum 125gr-158gr (USA mfr)
Looking to get around $1.75/rd so would be looking for similar trade value (example: You have some Hornady 6mm ARC with going rate close to $1/rd so would want to trade for 600 rounds of 6mm ARC for the 348 rounds of Spark ammo valued at just over $600). Doesn't all have to be the same ammo above, would be willing to do a blend of the above within reason. If we can work out a trade, we both ship to each other at the same time...

The DOJ determined it’s illegal to steal cash from citizens

It only took lots of these thefts caught on video - and several lawsuits . And then lo and behold federal pigs can longer rob travelers with impunity.

But only at airports- they can of course steal from you on the street, highway or in your home . You know law and somethings and war on drugs and hero’s and such

We saw some military history made today...

With Russia's launching of an actual ICBM 'in anger' we saw some military history made today!

Conventional warheads... But I don't believe that an ICBM has been used in any conflict since their invention...

Ukraine is denying it hit anything... Putin says it did.

Bet the folks at Cheyenne Mountain were having a bit of a nervous moment until they got trajectory data.

Also bet we got a lot of interesting data from that launch and MIRV re-entry!

Putin just sent a very strong message. And did it with a little tiny bang.

Globalists and commies are really doing their best to start WWIII!!!! They don't want Trump back and are prepared to destroy Western Civilization to prevent it...

6mm (.243) Optimum Velocity - 105 Berger Hybrid

I'm one year into Precision Rifle shooting and I have no idea what I'm doing. I shot last year with a LR308 and swore I would build a bolt gun for 2024. The rifle is done; Tikka T3, KRG Bravo (CTR Mags) and Preferred Barrel Blanks 26" 1:75 chambered in .243 Winchester. An Arken sits on top to look through.

I broke the barrel in with 36.5gr W760 pushing 107 SMK. Slow as molasses @ 2650'/s. Lapped barrels break in fast. Next is load development.

Hornady lists the max charge of H4350 @ 37.5gr for the 105 A-MAX and 2800'/s. 37.5 grains is about 80% case fill which seems low. Of course they set the bullet at SAAMI COAL of 2.710" while I can set the COAL at 2.875 which is 0.010 off the lands and leaves a lot more space for powder.

So I did a coarse ladder test; 38.0-42.5 at .5 increment. More of a pressure test, if you will. Zero pressure signs all the way to 42.5 and all the removed primers look the same; rounded base, etc. Velocities ranged from the low of 2750 to the high of 3000'/s with the 42.5gr load. So now the questions.

Should I go faster? Out of thin air I was shooting for 2950'/s

What is a good velocity for 6mm 105 berger hybrids?

Picture is the group at 100 yards. Upper left bug hole is the 5 fastest while the lower right is the slowest. Don't know why the POI shifted. The test was to find a powder charge range and velocity only. More load development to come.

Woah... LMT & KAC quality/accuracy/performance

Well... I'll just leave this here. I completely understand this in no way used any sort of scientific method, or any method at all for that matter..? No mention of ammo used, etc...
Im kinda wondering if this was some sort of skit/troll job..,??

But then I read the comment from "vinlandwerwolf"(4th comment down at time I posted this), that claims to have worked at both.? Every YouTube comment is obviously 100% true right?

This has to be a troll right?
I mean- the USSS, 1SFOD-D/CAG, now the Royal Marines....and countless other badass sons 'a bitches use and/or have used KAC, both their small frames and large. Same goes for LMT!!

Sooo..
Parody? Or no?

Does this exist anymore?

Hey guys. I run a close range brush gun (.308 18" barrel) with a Leopold 2-7 vxr. My wife and kids have been taking over this gun so I'm going to put something similar together for myself. They don't make the scope anymore and I'm having trouble finding an equivalent. The application here is an extremely fast lift and shoot scenario. Most of the time it is on two power and I always run it illuminated even if dim.

What is so absolutely stellar about this scope for this application is it's small and very lightweight. The illumination is absolutely daylight bright, which l almost always run on because it makes it so much quicker to get on target. 2x is perfect and in conjunction with the illumination can easily be ran both eyes open. It does excellent in the low light. It has the perfect reticle for this. HEAVY duplex with a 2 moa illuminated dot.

The only thing l've found so far that is interesting is the Burris Fullfield IV illuminated 2.5-10.

Do you guys know of anything else out there?
