So a friend lost the front sight off his LAR Grizzly because 45 win mag. This is an antique gun and Numrich hasn't had parts for it for a while as far as I can tell. I've 3d printed a simple front sight to see if it will work (expected to fly away on the first shot.) What would folks suggest - the site xometry.com might be able to print it in stainless steel for around $190.00. Does anyone have experience with them or is there somewhere else to go to such a thing fab'd? (while 190 doesn't seem unreasonable, for a cost of 190 I might just print a bunch of PLA+, carbon, etc to replace with when they go awol.

I recently started using a Wilson bushing type full length sizing die along with their bullet seater. I also used the KM arbor press with force measurement. Loading 6.5 CM it took 150 lbs. to seat the bullet. Also, the bullet press was not smooth. I would pull the handle down and the bullet would not move until I got to 150 lbs. & then the press would jam the bullet fully in w/ no additional movement on the press handle. Is this normal? I am not used to this as all my traditional single stage presses would smoothly insert the bullet w/ no jarring.

I just put in a new 6.5 CM barrel and am having issues with my reloads. (All factory ammo is fine.) I am using a Forster full length 6.5 CM sizing die that was modified by Forster to provide a .002 shoulder bump with my old barrel. (I sent the die and 5 fired cases to Forster).

With these dies and the same press settings, with the new barrel I initially got a stiff bolt lift with a click at the top on relatively mild loads. This was with similar headspace comparator gauge measurements as before. I adjusted the die down to fully cam over and now only get the bolt click at the top.

For comparison, I sized some rounds with a full length RCBS 6.5 CM die, and don't experience either issue. As the shoulder measurements and trim length check out, I think the bolt click may be caused by the Forster die not sizing the base of the case sufficiently for the new barrel? But I am unsure?

The old barrel was an X-Caliber chambered by MPA and the new barrel is a Krieger chambered by Keystone Accuracy. I am going to keep using the RCBS die for now, but I am curious whether sending the Forster die back for another adjustment is worth the time and effort.

I have a friend who wants me to load up reduced charge 223 so it will be quiet. So I loaded some CFE223 at 17gr and 14gr and some Titegroup at 3.6gr. I did not run the chrono for the two CFE223 loads and the Titegroup load was 1030FPS with a 62gr bullet. He reports that none of these loads are quiet and I have yet to get the make of suppressor from him.

My reason for this post is somewhere I think I remember that too little powder can cause problems. He now wants to try 11 gr CFE223 and I think I am not going to oblige him on that depending on what I hear here.

Yes I mentioned Blackout and he is not interested.

All I'm say'n is you spend all that time and money to print the best groups. You deserve the boujiest target binoculars to see them.

The B.5 has a MIL target reticle in the left tube (they also make an MOA version). While it only offers 18x magnification, binoculars offer stereoscopic depth perception unlike traditional tube spotters. In addition the size and compact form of binos make it easy to pack and transport compared to a 80mm spotting scope. The B.5 features bright and clear Fluorite glass. This is a step up from standard ED glass reducing chromatic aberration from edge to edge.

Readers digest version: Peterson .338 Lapua brass is stronger, more uniform, has more internal capacity, and is much cheaper than Lapua brand .338 Lapua brass.

For this test I took ten random pieces each of lapua and Peterson .338 lapua brass. The rifle is an AI AXMC .338, with the factory 5R bartlein. I rethreaded the muzzle and installed a Muzzle brakes and more brake. Excellent brakes, and you cant beat the price. I lost about a half an inch of barrel(about 26.5" now). I didn't want to waste flatline bullets on this test, so I used 250 Scenars and jumped them .030". The load is detailed at the top of pic 2, but it used H1000 and 215M primers. No sorting or truing of any type was performed beyond FL sizing and inside neck chamfer.

This pic details some averages of the 10 cases for each brand, in various measurements. Note that the Lapua brand is thicker in the web area. I was pretty certain after this measurement that I'd have trouble with the Peterson. If you compare most Lapua brand cases, they put more meat in this area as compared to domestic cases. The Peterson has a slightly larger extractor groove diameter than the Lapua, but a slightly smaller rim. Also of note, the Peterson cases would only fit in my redding shell holder, and none of my RCBD shell holders. The headspace measurement was taken with a Hornady .420 comparator. I couldn't find my previous load data for the 250 Scenars and H1000, so I used some 250 SMK data. These ended up being MUCH faster/hotter than the 250 SMK loads. These are hotter loads than I would run day to day. Depending on the manual you're looking at, these are several grains over their listed maximums(Hodgdon, Hornady). Please do not use this load data with out working up to it.

On to the good stuff. I had two fouler rounds at 94 grains, which left me with 18 record cases. The pic below will mostly speak for itself. The highlighted areas are Peterson brass. from left to right: charge weight, velocity, before and after expansion plus the actual expansion(very small numbers), then case weight and water weight. Note the amount of expansion in the 94 grain lapua brand loads. .0009"-.001". Now scroll down a bit and look at how the Lapua brand progresses, to a max of .0013"-.0016". While your down at the bottom, compare that with the maximum Peterson loads. The Peterson hardly grew at all, and really didn't progress at all. There is a little more capacity in the Peterson, so they run slower at the same charge. If you want an apple to apple comparison, look at shots 14 and 16 for example. The Lapua grew three times more at the same velocity. The Peterson isn't just stronger, it's a lot stronger. At the far right I added case weights and water weights of those cases. At the bottom of this pic are the case and water weight E.S. numbers. Without doing the math, the Peterson case spreads are a mere 25% of the Lapua cases. That is a lot better. No need to sort these at all. When I used to case sort, my individual batches weren't as tight as this. I measured some cases for length so I'd have something equal for the water weight test. I would have trimmed them equal if needed, but they were all within .0015" of one another. I thought that was good enough. Here are all the record cases, as they were fired (left to right and top to bottom). My rifle makes two distinctive markings on case heads, even at fairly low loads. One edge of the ejector hole usually presents a half moon shape. Also, the ejector on an AXMC is nipple shaped and pointy, which causes a little gouge in every case upon opening the action. After looking at these close-ups, I removed the extractor and rounded/polished it. Hopefully the markings will go away. All of these marks are orientated to 12 0'clock in this picture. While there are no ejector swipes, the ejector marks show up earlier and are far more prominent on the Lapua Brand cases. This is shot 14(96 gr, 3058 fps). Not really a bad mark, but plainly visible without any magnification. Looking at this closer, there is actually a little swiping off the lower edge of the ejector mark. As I said in my 300wm Peterson test, I'm a huge Lapua fan! I use it in every rifle I can, and plan future builds on the availability of Lapus brass for the intended cartridge. I also view Lapua brand .338 LM brass as pretty much the stoutest case in existence. It just sucks up punishment, and keeps on going. I'm still shocked that the Peterson, with it's slightly thinner narrower base and less overall mass, can actually be stronger than the Lapua brand case. I just went to the Peterson website and put 100 pieces of this brass in a cart, for a grand total of $209.95 shipped. About $40/per 100 pieces cheaper than Lapua brand sale price.

I'll post more as it comes to me, including some better pictures.

Hey everyone. I am ready to buy my first suppressor. Going to be using this solely on my 20” AR in 6MM ARC.

I have saved up enough to buy a OCL Polonium suppressor right now, and get this waiting period going.

My question is though, before I buy this, is there anything else out there suppressor wise that’s worth saving up a little more money for, or even considering over the OCL Polonium? I don’t see my self buying another suppressor anytime soon after I buy this one. I think the Polonium sounds good on 5.56 based on what others say, not sure about 6MM arc. It’s really affordable (Well kinda) durability lasting me years, and noise reduction, are my main concerns. I guess I’m posting this just for reassurance. Suppressors are expensive. And I can only afford one every once in blue moon lol. I have put this purchase off long enough as it is. I really don’t even know what I like/want in a suppressor since I have such limited experience with them. I have never even shot a suppressed rifle before.

I am in the process of building an 18" 6 ARC with a Proof CF barrel off of a LMT MRP-L. I am still working out the small details like the trigger, stock and optic/thermal which got me thinking maybe I should see what others have done. So post up a pic of your 6 ARC gasser and maybe a few details of what you're running.

A couple of illustrious Hide members have helped me acquire the parts to do a quasi, pseudo, ish, kinda-like M83 build. Always thought it was a neat rifle but saw photos so rarely it always fell to the back brain. It is such a unique rifle though.

Barreled action I used something on-hand. Its a fluted MTU Bartlein 18" in 6mm Creed. 0.300 PTG lug and an A serial Rem 700 with the receiver face squared and some lug lapping. I tuned an old Walker down to the danger zone for it. Simple Man 7.62 suppressor. Textured spray paint.

The stock is a Mcmillan Silhouette. Very cool profile. It needed finish inletting on a couple notches (2 beer inlet), some pillars added (1 beer bed), and a bottom metal fitted. The bottom metal inlet was oversized for any BDL I could find but too small for anything M5 style. The Hawkins Hunter was reaaally close, so went with that (3 beer inlet). Added an SRS rail up front (1 beer install) cuz I intend to do more than just stare at this thing.

Scope is the Bausch & Lomb 10x40 Tactical. It is the tank everyone says it is, no question. But it went in USMC rings cuz a completely Navy rifle was just feelin all gay. Found some caps and other accessories in the parts bin, bedded and torqued the whole shootin match, and here ya go!

26" PVA 260ai TL3 barrel threaded 5/8x24. Will work with a SA or Med TL3. Barrel has 800ish rds on it. Was my NRL barrel this past year. Got a first, two seconds, and a forth with it. I didn't really see a good place to put this, buy I feel like it's relevant to some in the group. I'm eating carnivore again, after cycling on and off for the last 5 or 6 years. I've had some good runs, and it's been extremely beneficial for me for so many reasons, but primarily performance. Well, I have some western mountain hunts coming up at the end of the month, and throughout fall and winter. I didn't want to break my diet, nor did I want to lose the benefits of eating carnivore.

Freeze drying your own food requires a significant initial expense, and when I looked at the loss for freeze dried meat, it is ghastly. A 1lb ribeye is $15 these days, and that will leave you with somewhere around 5-7oz of meat when dehydrated, plus the cost of packaging, time, etc. I've looked at other options for meat as well, but they are all ugly. I stumbled into a current mountain house sale. You can buy 10lb cans of dehydrated beef or chicken and it's cheap. I paid right at $90 delivered for a 10lb can of beef and a 10lb can of chicken. This is the hydrated equivalent of roughly 60-70lbs of food.

If you calculate 2lb of food per day on the mountain, that works out to $9/ day. If you buy 2 dehydrated (insert brand) pasta meals a day plus snacks, you're looking at $25-$30/ day or more for less than half of the protein and a bunch of gut bomb garbage.

Any other backcountry carnivores out there? How are you handling backpacking meals?
