Which used rifle: Remington 700 AAC-SD 6.5CM or Bergara B-14 HMR in .308?

My local Cabela's has announced Member Monday's and between that and my military discount, I'll be getting 15% off of used guns.

Currently my store has two rifles I've been eyeing.

The first is a Remington 700 AAC-SD in 6.5CM. 22" barrel, Hogue overmold stock (which will have to be replaced), scope rail and a Silencer Co brake/mount that matches my .30 cal can. I'm skeptical of newer Remington's and have no idea of round count. Price before discounts is $749.

Second is a Bergara B-14 HMR in .308. Still has factory sticker on 20" threaded barrel. Looks unfired. Also has scope rail, one mag and no box. I'm concerned this one may have accuracy issues that I've read about...but again, appears unfired. Price before discount is $899.

Both are pretty good deals with 15% off despite having to add 8.25% back in sales tax. And, I have about $30 in club points so there's that. Which would you buy...or would you pass on both?

Interesting group results, lots of questions

Here’s the situation:

Picked up a PVA osprey 6 Creedmoor 1:7 barrel with what should be a standard chamber.

I’ve been testing various factory ammunition to see how well it works, and I ran into an interesting issue with Barnes 112gr rounds.

On a cold gun while taking my time to shoot, I got this:

With a very warm gun and deciding, I didn’t give a crap anymore, I got this shooting rapid fire (it’s probably more like timed fire and so far speed was concerned… cycle bolt, aim, fire, cycle bolt aim fire…):

What I did notice was that I shot fairly well 20 rounds for the second set and I definitely ended up with a grouping.

I filed it under interesting, but then I started thinking:

- Cold barrel initially, warm barrel for the second string
- Abel Thorium-L vs thunder beast ultra9 for the second string

Can either of those things significantly affect the groups?

I would not expect either of those cans to do anything but make things shoot better.

Other ammunition does tend to work very well in that rifle… the 112gr ammo has shown to not do such a great job… at least initially. 110ATips shoot very well, as do a variety of ELDM and Berger rounds

Rifle Scopes Mark V durability story

So last week I was out bear hunting with my good friend @338dude and we were scooting down a trail, headed downhill through some rocky terrain when I stepped on a large rock that rolled right out from under me. I was carrying my 6cm on my right shoulder on a sling, and it pitched me that direction, forcing me to plant my right hand. My rifle whipped off my shoulder with the momentum and it centered a large rock directly on the elevation turret of my Leupold Mark V. It was a very hard impact. Scratched the scope in several places, and even took a small chunk out of the elevation turret. It was the last afternoon of our hunt and there was nowhere to check zero, so I continued mission. Never got a shot opportunity, but I was expecting a huge poi shift when I had a chance to check it. I finally got the time to put it on paper today, and I was impressed with what I saw. There was maybe a .1mil shift in poi, if any. I wouldnt have been surprised to see that it has shifted a foot based on the severity of the impact, but it had shifted left a half inch at 200y, which honestly could have been atmospherics, even barrel break in, (the barrel only has about 40 rounds through it), or a half dozen other things. I was always impressed by the durability of the Mark IV's we used in the Army, but this one was impressive.

Need a better muzzle brake

I have a couple different 300 PRC rifles, big fan of the cartridge. However, ever since I had my shoulder repaired the recoil is kicking my ass. I m currently using a PVA Jetblast but it just is not doing enough. I regularly shoot hot 308s and even hot 45-70 with no issues but the 300 is starting to cause a flinch. Its a Zermatt action with a 26" bull barrel in a MDT chassis so it is quite hefty. What brakes would you guys recommend? I was looking at the different "tank" style brakes but dunno if they are worth it.

My brother used 27gr ,AA1680 for 223 55gr fmj 😳

You read it correctly. My brother thought he had CFE 223 in his chargemaster when it actually had, A 1680 from reloading blackout, It didn't go well. He pulled the trigger ( bolt action gun) an he said he felt stuff hit him in the face. The bolt felt like it was welded in there. He didn't chalk it up to be a reloading issue so he dropped a round into a Ar. Well that didn't go well either. To add to the pressure problem a surpressor was attached. The mag blew out and apart and the BCG was like it was welded in there. Had to believe, He was totally fine. My question is, does anyone have the software to figure out what that pressure was and I'd love to know what that velocity comes out to be 😳 BTW he got the bolts out. The brass was molded into the bolt like it was poured into it. Bent the extractor.
I told him my rule is always when finished, dump the powder back into the container. Never have any other powder even near the bench that your not currently using.

effective load for 7mm 1:8 24' barrel

I am a left handed shooter and recently purchased a lh Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7mm Rem Mag. The fifle has a 24" carbon wrapped barrel with a 1:8 twist rate. I as seeking some guidance on what deer round I should test first. Must admit that the fierce was not my first choice, but being a lefty, the choices and availability are pretty few. Thanks in advance.
