Hera H6 - Anyone handled one?

Supposedly they are in Europe and Canada already.

US version is .223 Wylde and 300 Blk, 16, AR Mag (fed from side), great trigger, light weight. Looks like a Hera reskin of the Voere S16.

Feels like it could be a smoother version of the Ruger Ranch, with arguably better ergos and ability to support pic, arca, MLOK. Don't know if it will be worth 3x what a Howa mini goes for, but I'm excited to see more .223 bolt options in the market that don't require short (Rem 700) or long (Tikka) actions, especially since it sounds like Sako isn't supporting XS/mini actions anymore.

Prepping a pair of Safari Rifles SH-style

I have been on the Hide for a few years, mostly playing with rimfire precision rifles for use as trainers and smallbore competitions. But, I have always been a centerfire shooter for hunting, home defense, SHTF moments, etc. As a hunter, my world has been expanding to Africa. Having completed my 1st safari this summer, I was in the process of prepping a new pair of rifles for a future hunt in 2025. I went about it as if I was prepping a pair of precision rifles here but with my eye on their intended use. For long range plains game at distances running from 50y out to 300y (typical) and 400y practical max for practice, etc I selected a nice old vintage Husqvarna Swedish Mauser in 30-06. This is the Imperial model. I wanted a FFP scope of moderate power with good turrets and acceptable glass. Since I had one sitting on the bench unused, I mounted the Arken EPL4 4-16x. For dangerous game, specifically Cape Buffalo, I was to use a lovely ER Shaw custom P14 Enfield in 375HH topped with a 1-6x Kahles K16i. It would not be planned to use on anything past 100y but I wanted to know my dope out to at least 300y. Both these are exceptionally accurate rifles as hunting rifles go. Both were used rifles but had not seen that much use (typical of hunting rifles).

After testing loads and choosing the ammo for the trip, I went about verifying the dope in my ballistics app so I could refine as needed. The 30-06 shot all ammo well but liked the Remington 180g Swift Scirocco loads best. It was consistently running about 1/2" for three shots at 100y. Dope was amazingly close all the way out to 400y where it recorded a three shot group on steel that was 2.25" . It was great fun to ring the 6" and 4" plates at 400y on the first shot for each. That will work for anything I need it to. Could I find a better scope than the Arken? Maybe, but for what I plan to do with it, the Arken is near perfect. I do not love their reticle for hunting. It needs a heavier center cross to aid quick acquisition in cluttered backgrounds but, I think it will still work OK. Should know better after deer season. PLus, I use Arkens on several other precision rifles and despite their lower price point, they fight well above their weight class in the real world. Rugged and reliable.

The 375HH was zeroed at 100y but just for grins I shot it at 200/300/400y to record the drops and general precision at those ranges. This rifle will shoot its best loads to just under 1" at 100y with occasional groups of about 1/2" with the best ammo. It will be running 300g Barnes TSX for most large game and 300G Swift A-Frames loaded to the same velocity as the Barnes for use on Buffalo and then carry a pair of 300g Woodleigh Hydro solids in the bottom of the mag if the buff wants to cop an attitude. I shot only a two shot group at 400y on a steel IPSC plate. I could hear and see the plate move from each impact but could not see the POI in the scope or even in a 24x optic from another rifle. That was odd. I only fired two simply because those cartridges are pricey and after 8-10 shots from the bench it gets tiresome to shoot. When finished I drove down range to pull my tgts and walked up to examine the steel plates at 400y. The 375HH grouped both shots into a group that was under 2" at 400y. I was using a 3mil hold over. The app called for 2.8mil. The shots hit about 6" high and 4" to the right. I won't be shooting game with it at that distance but it is nice to know it was grouping like that considering how imprecise my aim can be with only 6x to work with.

I plan to deer hunt with the Swede this fall to vet it further but as of now am pretty pleased with the results. Most shots in Africa would be less than 300y. I use my rimfire to practice shooting off sticks since that is a perishable skill and lots of practice builds confidence and confidence helps the hunter to maintain a calm and business like demeanor when called upon to make a critical shot. Am looking forward to next year. I know these are not really precision rifles in the classic sense but if they can shoot that well, what is your definition of precision?

Optics On the hunt - NXS 2.5-10 Mil-R (x24 or x42)

My WIP Mk12 Mod1 is nearly complete, which can be seen here. This is my first clone and a sentimental build I'm hoping to complete soon. I understand the NXS 2.5-10x24 Mil-R is quite elusive, but I'm looking for that and/or the NXS 2.5-10x42 Mil-R. One for the Mk12 Mod1. The other for my deer rifle - Bergara Hunter 308.

Pretty open to prices and condition

Watch guys: When would you actually use a tachmeter?

For all of you watch guys: when would you actually use a tachymeter?

And let's get it out of the way up front: yes, what prompted the question is that I have the option to buy a watch at a good price, which happens to have a tachymeter. No, not looking for "purchase confirmation", but genuinely interested in their use.

I've read up on how tachymeters are used, and I'm not sure that I'd ever be in a position with a known start and finish point for a set distance to measure speed.

I'm also pretty sure that if I was able to travel at a consistent rate of speed in a car, then I'd know how far I've travelled. If I'm in my own car, I figure it's going to have a speedometer and an odometer.

Timing cars racing around a track isn't a functional use for me. The best I've read online is of people checking their speedometers if they think they're broken, or perhaps got new tires.

Is there any functional use for a tachymeter? I've seen military imagery/iconography used in ads to sell watches with them - is there a functional use in military contexts?

Sure, cellphones are used as arguments against all kinds of "old tech" and we don't need to point that out here (I still like slide rules, and can usually turn to a page in a diary faster than colleagues can look up electronic calendars). I'm even interested in what might have been genuine late 1800s/early 1900s use for a tachy that could apply now - or some kind of future grid-down/TEOTWAWKI/Red Dawn/Terminator scenario uses, figuring this would be a timepiece I'd hand down to my son.

So ... what functional use does a tachymeter have? Have you ever used one, and for what? What can you imagine using one for?

A Rifle Builders Tool Box

I’ve been wanting to learn to build bolt action and ar15 style rifles as a side business. While I’ve already assembled several of both styles I’m aware there’s a few tools that I need for attaching and head spacing barrels to actions and things like that. I’m not going have a lathe for a WHILE so I guess I need to choose my actions wisely on the bolt action side? If someone with experience on the ins and outs of barreling and head spacing bolt actions and ar15 upper receivers I’d much appreciate a run down on the process and tool list required for the job? I’d like to gather the tools and as much experience as I can before I dive in to an FFL and all that jazz. (Side note: Should I just get a type 1 or should I go ahead and get a type 7 in case I do some “manufacturing” on accident?)

6,5x47 Lapua brass forming from...?

Hello to all,
now are a bad historical tyme for shooting and ammo reloading, components are too expensive or not availlable respect some years on the past...

The bad situation are more amplified for all the non "commercial" calibers like 6,5x47 Lapua.

100pcs of 6,5x47 Lapua now start from 145€ plus shipping, and other brand are more expensive than Lapua...

I tried to forming some .308 to x47 Lapua but more neck to form and trim are tedious ...., turning the neck need some extra stuff...
Parent case like .243 are the same...
22-250 are unvaillable from the range and the brand new are expensive like the 6,5x47 Lapua..
Remain the 6,5 Creedmoor, 2mm more on lenght maibe are not a problem for the neck thikness(?)

Can someone have tried to for an x47 Lapua case fro a 6,5 Creedmoor, with wath result?

I dont like buy some extra stuff only for shooting gong.

Regards, Camillo

Large Gun Safe

OK, looking into spending some money on a newSafe. Currently have one from tractor supply but with a pending divorce and my wife potentially keeping the house and me moving to a condo. I would just leave the Safe at her house and upgrade to get something better with stronger fireproof. What brands should I be looking at, is liberty as good as it used to be? Here’s what I currently have. I would like one at least this size or larger.
Don’t mind the homemade rosary beads for my grandmother who passed away a few years ago.
