300 PRC

Having just seen the recent thread on the 7mm PRC. I was wondering the same about the 300 PRC I am thinking of having a Remington 40x in 7mm magnum re-barrreled to 300 PRC. I have engaged a gunsmith to work on this and was wondering what opinions are out there about a project like this. It is a single shot so it is at a disadvantage at an ELR but only one person can win that anyway. I think it would be fun to try this combination. Appreciate any comments positive or negative but would like to see Bear Pit comments stay there.

Determining best Neck Tension

I am wondering how other reloaders come to the conclusion as to how much neck tension is needed.

I am very familiar with how to determine bushing size, mandrel size and etc. For example, I have sized my necks to .0010, .0015, and .002. If I am putting together hot loads, I typically like less neck tension so as to not build up too much chamber pressure. If I am building magazine fed loads, i like a little more neck tension. Sometimes, i might put a little more neck tension to increase my MV without increasing powder.

Any other thoughts?

kestrel elite 5700 ab problems, what am i doing wrong

i have a kestrel 5700 elite ab, sn#2160498. i have down loaded the latest firmware. i have had it for years, i used to be really into the precision rifle stuff. i bought the weather vane for it, etc. but it has always given me problems. but i think i am onto something finally. i've been getting ready for an elk hunt so i've been playing with 5 guns, Defensive edge 338 ai terminater, a kirby allen 338 ai raptor, 2 different GAP built 6.5 saums, and a Coffin custom 7mm rem mag. all very nice guns. as i was getting re-aquainted with them and trying different ammo, i noticed a pattern that using the kestrel
they were all shooting low, .1-.2 mils in the 400-500 yd range, and also shooting low out to 900 yds. finally yesterday, a local dedicated shooter let me borrow his similiar kestrel at the range. i downloaded 3 of my profiles, 6.5 saum, 338 raptor, and 7mm onto his kestrel. i then compared them side by side with the exact same profile. ignoring the wind calls, ( i didn't make the wind the same, only the target distance and direction (395 yds, and 175 deg) as you can see from the pics, his kestrel always had about a .1 mil higher solution,, i also compared all the weather numbers. our weather numbers were kinda close but no where near exactly the same, there has to be some input that is acting on all my profiles to make them shoot low. the weather numbers didn't match but they were close,,, i don't know how important all the weather numbers need to be. pics to follow. mine is the tan one
it has always done this and i usually do a profile calibration with the mv, but i have a nice labradar so i know my ave mv. and it is decent ammo so pretty low es and sd

any thoughts? i am cross posting this

SOLD Bergara PDC LE 16” .308

Selling my Bergara PDC LE 16” .308. I am the third owner of this rifle: first owner - unknown round count (expected to be low), second owner - ~100 rounds, third owner (myself) - 60 rounds. These guns are only sold to LE agencies and I have only seen the one other that was posted on here in early ‘24 for sale.

The chassis includes an integrated ARCA rail, Anschutz rail, folding stock, barricade stop, and fully adjustable NV mount. 16" barrel is a heavy spec LE specific barrel which shoots fantastic. Trigger is a Trigger Tech adjustable. Comes with a 5 round magazine, sliding pic rail attachment, and various spacers for cheek rest adjustment.

Comes in original box. Has some wear as you would expect from 3 different owners. Mostly just cosmetic. Ran great with 168s. I ran exclusively Norma match.

Asking $2700 obo

SOLD Trijicon ACOG TA110, .308 Red Horseshoe

Selling a really clean TA110 with the .380 Red Horseshoe reticle. It was purchased from a Dpt. and was basically new when I got it. 0 issues with it, clean glass, and I always used lithium batteries!
I put it in a pretty rare Larue LT799 ($~150) which were only sold under contracts. This is improved over the commercial option (LT100) as it has 3mounting positions (LT100 has 1) and the locking levers on the right side instead of left. I replaced the old hardware with the same spec, new YFS socket head bolts, and torqued them vibratite.
I also installed a One Hundred Concepts "Scope Cap Pro" ($100) and a Wager Machine lo-pro ACRO mount ($100) (MPS NOT INCLUDED)
Just throw your dot on top and this thing is ready to rock!

Frankford arsenal x10

Just bought a Frankford Arsenal x10 press, been using Dillons for a long time but I liked the way this operated. They have the option for using 10 different dies, I'm very familiar with reloading dies etc but I don't think anyone sells a 10 die set. I know you don't have to use them all but I'm avoiding trying to mix and match and buy a die here and another there. My case neck sizing die and bullet seating die will be Frankford but what are folks using for all the others? Does anyone make/sell die sets for the FAx10?

Optics WTS ATACR 4-16x42 MOA-XT

$2000 shipped in the box as pictured - **Mount not included** Please PM

Trades considered - 5.5x50mm ACOG, 2.5-12x42 Accupoint Green MOA dot specifically, Gen 3 1-10 Razor

Per sales descriptions on line -

The ATACR Riflescopes are designed to maximize the the potential accuracy of semiautomatic and bolt action rifles while also offering the revered bomb-proof durability Nightforce optics are known for. They feature a one-piece tube precision machined from a solid bar stock of 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. The tube is two to three times thicker than riflescopes of a lesser quality, resulting in less overall stress, greater thermal stability, a consistent zero and a virtually impervious shield for the precision optics within. The lenses are matched and aligned by hand in a process called optical indexing to ensure the highest possible optical performance. The objective lens utilizes a multi-element design like those found in the highest quality telescopes to focus light rays more precisely for exceptional image clarity and color accuracy. Optical performance is further enhanced thanks to multi-coated ED glass that results in superb light transmission, brilliant images, and exceptional color contrast. The elevation turret on ATACR Riflescopes are equipped with Nightforce’s ZeroStop Technology to provide an instant return to zero after making adjustments in the field. After sighting in your rifle, simply set the ZeroStop to create a positive mechanical stopping point at your chosen zero point. Then, no matter how many elevation adjustments you make, turning the elevation knob down to the ZeroStop setting returns you to your original zero, completely by feel—even in total darkness or while wearing gloves. The internal mechanisms on the windage and elevation turrets are held in place by a specially designed spring that spends two weeks in a polishing tumbler before being installed in the optic to deliver perfectly smooth operation. This guarantees zero loss of integrity, zero loss of repeatability.

Nightforce is already known for ruggedness and reliability in their riflescope lines, and the ATACR is no exception; building from his foundation, the scope has many features, including:

  • Parallax adjustment - 45 yards - infinity
  • Integrated Throw Lever
  • Xtreme Speed Thread
  • Hi-Speed ZeroStop
  • DigIllum reticle illumination

Popping primers.

I’m shooting factory loaded 5.56 ammo out of a AR-15, FN 5.56 chambered barrel and I’m popping primers out of the shell and they’re also showing signs of pressure on the popped primers. I don’t want to say the ammo manufacturer yet. The ammo is accurate for what this barrel is capable of.
Also, I’m getting a failure of the bolt to fully close about every 8-10 rounds. I drop the mag and action the rifle a few times and it feels a little sticky when it finally catches the round and strips it out. I’ve only shot probably 2-300 rounds through it. Always suppressed. Could the chamber already have carbon ring? Or is this barrel possibly really tight chamber? I haven’t checked with a go/no-go gauge but would that be my next step? Only thing that does help is tons of lube. Or could this be an ammo issue?
