Gunsmithing Checking rail alignment

I have a Savage LA flat back rifle with EGW rail, Badger Rings, and Burris Veracity scope. After zeroing there is about 3/4 MOA of right windage left. To me after checking torque and looking at everything it appears the rail mounting holes are drilled slightly off to the right. Is there a way to have someone check to verify if I’m correct and maybe make the appropriate repair? Also is there any bolt on stock or chassis options available that will free float the barrel and support using a bipod? This model has the internal magazine it it makes a difference.

Thanks for any help

375 Raptor load data

Hi all,

I want to build a 16" bolt action rifle for suppressed hunting, both supersonic and subsonic. The 375 Raptor looks very interesting, and certainly looks like it would be fantastic with the big heavy pills.

-Does anyone have experience loading this cartridge supersonic?
-Are the loads on the 375raptor website reasonable, or are they running too hot, trying to promote the cartridge?
-Can the more common 230-260 grain .375 bullets be driven fast enough by a .308 parent case to get expansion, or do they need magnum velocities?

Thanks,
-pg

Suppressors How to remove objects stuck in a suppressor?

So I’ve had an otter creek polonium for awhile and have used it a bunch. I recently went to the range on a windy day and was sandblasted like nothing else. When I got home I noticed that there were some pretty sizable objects I could hear inside the suppressor. I tried tilting it different ways to try to get the material out, but it seems to be too big to want to come out. Any ideas on how I can clean out the large objects (probably rocks) from my suppressor?

What can cause accuracy to fall apart at 700 yards?

So before anyone asks, yes I know how to drive a semi and specifically a large frame. I’ve been doing it with great success for 20+ years. I rebarreled said rifle about two years ago with a LW 1/10, I really didn’t get a chance to get behind the rifle a lot because of work. I retired last year but took on another full time job. I had to go through all of their hoops and such for the first year. Now the dust has settled and I have been able to get to the range.

The first time I noticed this issue was about two months ago, I was banging steel from 100-600 yards easily. As soon as I went out to 700 the bullets just danced around the targets. I kinda chalked it up to forgetting my rear bag but deep down I thought I was pretty stable and shouldn’t have missed that much. I went out again last week and this time I brought the bag. I was shot several groups in the .7s at 100/200/300 yards. At 400/500/600 I was shooting steel. 100% hits. As soon as I went out to 700 the bullets just danced around the targets and never hit steel. I checked the scope and its tracking, the rings and mount is tight. The barrel has been bedded into the receiver.

so I am truly puzzled by this. Has anyone else seen this before?

Lunar Landing

Because I have to prove that I earn my AIC creds enough to grant upgrades to complete assholes for others.

When I was 5, I remember my father, who had visitation rights with us (I was 3 when he and my mother divorced,) wake me up to see the moon landing and to hear Neil Armstrong say those words. "One small step for a man. One giant leap for Mankind."

And there were several more flights to the moon. Around 1970 ish, my mother was working for Phillips 66 in California and she was a key punch operator, which is how business computers were programmed back then. (After moving to Texas, her home state, in 1974, she would go one to learn COBOL and some Fortran and RPG and RPG II, specializing in RPG II while working for Schwepps Grocer Supply before his untimely death and that of her boyfriend, Lamar, in a plane crash.) Later, as an independent, she had clients such as First Bank - Houston and NBC. So, anyway, during the key punch days, the computer could take up half of a small building. The main frame at Philliops 66 took up a few floors.

And during this time, with computers about as complex and taking up an entire building, we went to the moon in basically a beer can. Several times.

And never again, since then. We "got rid of the technology."

The real problem is the radiation in the Van Allen Belt. This ionized layer actually protects us from a bunch of gamma rays, etcetera.

So, today, with superior materials and computers that can sit on a desk, why have we not been back?

Which leads to the question of did we go?

There, I think I have stirred up just enough feces...

Shooting copper after lead

Has anybody put some real time behind copper monos and noticing a barrel wont group well or keeps having POA/POI shifts if you fired traditional lead jacketed bullets first? I saw a thing on youtube *backfiretv* and ron spomer TV, both talking about this, and have noticed the same trend.

Ive shot around 3-400 rounds of hornady CX bullets & Barnes TTSX for hunting season, and was having some wacky POA/POI shifts. Groups would be around 1.5 MOA then random outings the rifle would hammer, sub 1/2 MOA, shot a 4” group at 1040yards with the 190CX in 300PRC. I could not for the life of me figure out why things were so inconsistent. I was having issues with vertical POA/POI shifts as well as horizontal and thought it was my technique, rifle, loose screws, etc, would go back to 225ELDM reloads trying to save some coppers (i train with 225ELDMs for cheaper cost) and the issue would go away, then back to factory 190CX ammo or reloads with copper and i’d shoot a 5 round group re-zero and my next group would be like .3 mills or more off. Go home, clean, back to zeroing and I’d be chasing a wandering zero for days. I thought something on my rifle broke, changed the optic, even re-barreled it with another proof barrel.

It seemed the barrel just would never settle down. My reloads would shoot fine with ELDMs, and some days the coppers did okay but others it shot like crap. That’s when I saw an episode on Youtube of backfire tv shooting coppers fine, shot lead fine, then back to coppers and shot like 5 groups or something and it all shot like crap.

A lightbulb went off in my head, I cleaned my barrels down to bare steel, and shot again. Huge vertical (3MOA) while the rifle fouled in 6-9 rounds. then it kept POA / POI over 3 different days, cold bore at 600 grouped .7 MOA and POA/POI was perfect.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Rifle Scopes Athlon Argos 10-40 gen 2

Has anyone got their hands on one of these gen 2's yet? I've had several Athlon's over the years and currently have a Cronus BTR on a .22 bench rifle. I'm shooting paper only with this rifle from 50 to 200 yards and I'm thinking of moving the Cronus over to another rifle because it's a bit overkill. I had a gen 1 Argos 10-40 and it tracked, etc. but I wasn't thrilled with the turrets not lining up. The glass was actually good for the price but I'm wondering if that was improved too on the new version.

SOLD Xlr Envy Pro

I have a new xlr envy pro with bag rider, thumbrest, and a used tr2 buttstock. Cut for R700 ambidextrous. Was going on use it on a build but decided to go a different way with it. Asking 800 shipped.

Would also trade plus cash on my end for a manners tcs with mini chassis or spuhr chassis with hbar front end.

B14-R ejection issue

So I have a b14-R 22.
Got about 3,000 rounds through it.
Probably the last 250 rounds. I've been noticing ejection issues.
The infamous bhagara jam where the round falls behind the magazine and it's of Royal pain in the ass to get it out where you're on the clock for 2 minutes.

I'm pretty confident that it's the springs on the extractors.
Was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? What the fixes are where one can get these new springs? Does anybody have a part number?
And yes I already staked the rifle as well.

Thanks for your time
Please help a brother out because it's starting to get super annoying

SOLD Origin barrels - 22 creed/6.5 creed/6.5 PRC

Looking for origin barrels (not TL3 with the HLR lug) in 223 (FOUND!) and 6.5 prc. The one I’m looking for the most is a 223 barrel. Building another rifle because I can’t stay away from Zermatt.

Preferred the 223 barrel is 22-26” and that the 6.5 prc barrel is 18-22” in a lighter steel contour

If anyone wants to trade, I’ve got an ARC CDG I’m going to be listing at some point. I just like the origin better for value and function

An M40A1 ish PX Special Build

With a few minor exceptions of pieces from my own bin, this whole build came together from PX acquired parts...that in the beginning were never bought for one another lol. Its a pic heavy post, but I just wrapped it up and was proud, so figured I'd share.

I was originally scooping up a stripped G serial action for a different project and hoping I might stumble on another Obermeyer since a barrel came with purchase (appears to actually be a 1:12 Schneider, Eric Reid proof mark and GA Precision roll mark barrel). In that transaction, I was given a very gracious opportunity to get a USMC M40A1 return stock that had been pretty badly damaged.

With a weekend worth of HARD (relative term) labor I repaired it via a Mcmillan kit and Devcon and wax and all kinda nonsense and then started to add correct minor parts. The Mark 4 scope and welded Model 7 base I was planning on using just weren't great, so that part got jumped to M40A3 vintage.

I welded up and redrilled a Grayboe bottom metal so I could have the "look" but run AICS mags. Added a 721 short shroud. Fresh 308 chamber cut and some length off the top (21", threaded now). DD Ross lug cuz I got one off here once. The balance was weird, so off the barrel came. SPR/Bugholes gave it 8 straight flutes.

GreTan spring and polished just about everything. Gutted a Walker to fix up a tombstone, split-sear trigger that was in rusty shape. Hung some leather accessories and a Turner Saddlery sling. Added the world's tiniest picatinny in front of the Wichita up front, just enough for a qd Atlas. Gave it a book set and suppressor, and here ya go!

Zeroed this morning with 150gr Federal Fusion, which it shoots mighty fine!!
