Not a vintage rifle but... still interesting vintage!

In their efforts to develop high-energy rocket fuel during Vietnam, researchers found the fuel they’d created was a little too powerful, consistently destroying the rockets they powered. After some refinement, the researchers dubbed it Astrolite—the air-scatterable liquid land mine.

Invented by chemist Gerald Hurst while at the Atlas Powder Company, Astrolite technically is a family of binary liquid-state high explosives that are formed when you mix ammonium nitrate and anhydrous hydrazine (the rocket fuel). This produces a clear liquid explosive called Astrolite G—it has a very high 8600 m/s detonation velocity—nearly double that of TNT. If you then add aluminum powder to Astrolite G, you get Astrolite A (for Aluminum) which has a velocity of detonation of 7800 m/s.

Now while they have a very high detonation velocity (it expands very quickly), Astrolite does not have a lot of mass (there’s less explosive to detonate per volume). That means that it’s not suitable for heavy demolition but excellent as an anti-personnel/light armor mine.
As a 1968 issue of Stars And Stripes described it:

Latest development is a “Liquid Land Mine” using Astrolite, the most powerful known explosive…Poured directly onto a dirt road, the stuff soaks into the first few inches of earth, giving tremendous upheaval power. Although the land mine was fired remotely in the test, a pressure-sensitive fuse can be used that will react to the weight of a passing vehicle…Liquid Land Mine can be simply poured from canteen like containers says its maker, Explosives Corporation of America, or sprayed from trucks or helicopters.

That’s right, you simply just spray it on—as little as 1oz is needed to incapacitate an enemy soldier—and sow in a detonator. It will remain active and detonatable in the soil for four days, unaffected by rain, but will eventually inactivate itself, eliminating the need for de-mining. The most useful feature is the fact that even when active, the Astrolite can’t be detected by normal mine detection equipment.

And it was even marketed as an instant foxhole digger

Footwear for PRS matches

Hi all. I am looking for some recommendations on footwear for matches. I have had extensive surgeries on my right leg and ankle. I have over pronation and arthritis in that ankle as well. Standing or walking for more than a couple of hours becomes incredibly painful. I need something with good solid ankle support, that is very comfortable, but also good in hot weather and possibly waterproof in case of mud and or rain. This isn't something I really put a budget cap on as long as they do the trick.

Thank you,

He "HATES" Taylor Swift ...

What in God's name was Trump trying to accomplish with that social media post? Why wouldn't he just let her endorsement age quickly and pass into oblivion? Why consciously piss off hundreds of millions of loyal fans around the world, many of them in the USA, many of them in that critical first-election youth demographic? If Trump loses, history will look back at this and probably list it in the "Top-10 Crazy Mistakes" that lost him the election. Right up there with Hannibal Lecter, death by shark or battery, wind-farm bird-cemeteries, and pet-eating immigrants. It just feels like he's either losin' it ... or needs to hire a full-time "Impulse Control Coach" that holds onto his phone. It's like that scene in "The Sandlot" ...

22 Creedmoor 88/90gr detuned to 3100-3150

Anyone here running a 22 Creed for PRS/practice rifle? I'm specifically torn between new bolt rifle 22 Creed (make use of 308 bolt face) and 224 Valk bolt gun.

I wanted to get an idea of barrel life for the 22 Creed when running lower velocity (3000-3100fps) 88 to 90gr bullets. It's capable of pushing them much faster but for PRS speed limit and barrel life reasons, I'm considering a lower speed 22 creed.

5.56 Brass headspace variations

I just fireformed a 100 pieces of brand new never fired starline 5.56 brass. After i fired them they measured at several different measurements from the datum line. Most were 1.4575"-1.458" and a couple at 1.459 but some didn't change from what they were when unfired at 1.452. Weird thing is that when I resize my brass I size them for 1.4565"-1.457" since I thought my chamber was at 1.460" and never had some stuck cases and will stick a piece of brass sized ar 1.457" and it ejects fine. So if the majority are ar about 1.4575 is that the size of my chamber even though some get as big as 1.460" on occasion? Not as much as they used to since switching out my bolt but I go/no goed my new bolt (jp enterprises fmos) and it still will spit out brass at that 1.460" but it usually stays at around 1.4575" on average. What would cause such variations even with brass at multiple firings?
