Just curious

If one has a drivers license in a state A that unfortunately links to ones CCW, if you showed your drivers license to a cop in state B, could they still see you had a CCW via state As link?

Yes.

I was pulled over in another state and after he introduced himself he said I see you have a ccw are you carrying. It’s linked to your car’s registration in North Carolina. I got a warning

My cars are registered under a LLC, but yeah sadly the state my license is in is one of the anti 4A states that links it to your DL for “officer safety”. Seems introducing a gun into a conversation for no good reason is a way to get a scaredy cop extra jumpy.

Absolutely yes. It's an entry on "your record" just like if you were a LEO or something else like that.

In Texas it's on there because if you have a CHL and you get arrested for something they have a very short window of time to do extra steps if needed.

If I'm not mistaken it's 24 hours to have your permit revoked or something like that.

It depends on which State you’re from, how they log stuff, and which agency the LEO stopping you works for. There are roughly 18,000 law enforcement agencies. With that in mind, there are likely at least a few thousand different ways data is displayed.

Under each state's laws is a section called "Key State Laws" notes if the CCW is linked to the driver's license.

In Kansas, it’s linked, but the dispatcher had to go to another screen to see KS CCL status. The screen that initially pops up, when we ran a DL/ID/name and DOB check would show the demographic info on file, DL status and any wants/warrants. None of the dispatchers would go to the next screen, unless there was a reason to. That screen had the CCL status as well as specifics on the wants/warrants.

From 2006-2015, a CCL was required to concealed carry, in Kansas, unless LEOSA applied. From 2015 to now, no CCL is required. There’s really no point in dispatch taking the time to look if the driver has a CCL, when most people who carry don’t have one.

When running from other States, you never know what you’re going to get.

My information is dated as I got out of LE, in 2020.

That’s what I was getting at, does another states dispatch have that CCW info when they run your DL

Some will, some won’t, and some may have a way to get the information, but won’t automatically be pulled in a “standard record check”.

It’s funny that you think this is an issue. I’ve had cops come out after me numerous times while speeding or just driving one of my obnoxiously loud race cars, run my tag, and then not pull me over and I can only assume that’s why. I’ve also been pulled over and given verbal warnings because I had a CHL and was carrying.
