I’m sure there are some police on the hide that know a good donut when they see one, so speak up. And everyone else as well that likes a good donut, speak up as well. Or is it doughnut? Don’t call it a pastry.

So, What’s the best donut?
I say apple fritter, specially from https://m.facebook.com/ronattascakery

Donna's Donuts in Flint, MI.

Cops & Donuts in Clare, MI you'd think would be the best, but they're over-rated.

Bavarian cream filled long John from dom bakery in Ypsilanti Michigan

I didn't realize until I moved away from the midwest that cream sticks/ long johns are not common on either the east or west coast.

Now, whenever I get back to that part of the country, I overdoes on them every morning.

My 2 kids spent 7 years between them at EMU, I've eaten at just about every place there is in Ypsi. Never heard of it.

ETA: Just asked my daughter, she said they're pretty damn good.

I always like plain glazed (and fruit filled) from Top Donuts in Spring Texas. Better than Shipley donuts. Haven't found a good place like it here in Utah. The texture isn't quite right.

I still miss kolaches being up here. Bahama mama wraps from Maverick aren't quite the same. Wrong bread type.

Best way to compare places is get a plain glazed. If they can't get that right they probably stink at everything else.

Vudoo donuts are among the worst I've ever had. No idea how that place has lines out the door all morning long.

Albertsons are decent for something to grab.

Home made donuts are best though. Great, great grandma's recipe with lard, and fried in lard.

Vegetable oils and shortening have zero business in a good donut. I'll fight anyone on that.

I prefer an ‘old fashioned’ cruller with my coffee, but the best donut I ever had was from a place back home in Bradenton, FL called “Turner’s Spudnut”

As the name indicates, they use (used?) potato flour for their donuts. My favorite was a lemon bismark…. Lemon filled and powdered sugar…NOT a glaze. Back then I’m pretty sure they made their own lemon curd for the filling, using fresh lemons; we were in Florida afterall.

Never had anything like it since.

edit: holy crap, looks like they’re still in business! https://spudnutinfo.com/
