Leftism is a cult. Once somebody had reached maturity and is still buying into that kind of crap, their minds are already ensnared into a cult mentality. The distinguishing factor between a true-believer leftist and someone who is "just going through an idealistic phase" is their maturity and age and how long they stick to those beliefs.
Almost ALL large public school systems since the 1970s had somewhat leftist leanings. I went through elementary and junior high in the 1990s and schools were already pushing the environmentalist, gun control, and LGBT acceptance stuff. The antigun shit was actually really heavy in the 90s, more than it is today. There were at least 5-6 different nonprofit orgs in the NYC area alone during that time pushing for total national disarmament and put up doom posters about the "horrors of gun violence" everywhere. All of them went extinct by 2002, either due to their people being busted for using funds to acquire personal luxury goods, or simply running out of funding from lack of support. Even for the idealistic types who were 'just going through a phase', as soon as they experienced reality, whether by reading daily news, or getting involved in a minor neighborhood park altercation and they realized that the crap they had been taught do not work and 'things don't add up', they reject these notions and opt for pragmatism and strategies and methods of thinking that do work and produce results. By high school, they would have checked out of anything that still pushes idealistic nonsense, to the dismay of leftist teachers who always complain that "some of those kids are just not interested and nothing can make them interested". Me, I don't think I ever even dipped a toe into that nonsense. I just always thought they were corny and produced no results in the real world. I remember going to the school library at grades 4-5 and gathering a bunch of anti-gun and gun control advocating books on the table just to look at cool gun pictures. I saw something about "blah blah Teflon coated bullets blah blah .357 Magnum" with a photo of a beautiful Smith & Wesson revolver and I thought: "Yep, I am getting one of these Smiths as soon as I am able to".
Contrary to popular belief, propaganda and brainwashing only have limited effects. They are practically useless against people who are simply just not interested or want to bother with the talking points propaganda pushes. People seek out what they want to seek. Why would people like John W. Gacy, Dennis Rader, and other horrific serial killers and sexual predators, many who grew up in completely wholesome households that never even introduced them to reading about bad shit happening in their communities, be secretly amassing stashes of pornography of highly illicit and immoral nature, and going into shadowy web chatrooms to share fantasies about murder and depraved sexual violence once they got to their teens? It is because these peoples' minds are already wired a certain way and they WANTED to seek out depraved material. Just like leftist ideology. Those who continue to push and promote it and work for it's causes do so because they WANT to.
Even in places where people are subjected to heavy amounts of indoctrination, those who want nothing to do with it will not be involved in it. The ones who fall into it and continue to fall into it even in the face of reality and repeated failures of their embraced ideology are basically cultists. No different from serial killers or terrorists who strap on bomb vests or fly planes into buildings. By that point, there is no trying to reason with them. You stay wary of them, keep your loved ones away from them, and when the day comes that that they succumb to their own stupidity, you breathe a sigh of relief knowing that one more parasite has finally been removed from sharing your air.
For this particular useless "poet", (Yeah I saw some of his "works" posted elsewhere. They are absolute shit) the last thing going through his mind is probably: "No! Why would this misunderstood, poor innocent minority boy turn on me? Doesn't he know I am on his side?"... More likely, he was probably going through utter dismay that his life goals of getting a communist dictatorship set up, with himself and his buddies rounding up the evil MAGA conservatives, would now never be recognized and enjoyed by him, even as he is bleeding out, fading to nothingness and pissing like a bitch on that dirty sidewalk.
ETA: I never bought into that DNA ancestry shit. Always knew that they were at best, data collecting attempts for future nefarious purposes and at worst, outright monetary scams meant to make a few bucks off unsuspecting innocents. My GF had showed a tiny bit of interest in these things when they were all the rage back in 2016 or so but I easily talked her out of it. There is no need for that crap. We already knew what ours are. I am 100% northern Han Chinese with a bit of Korean from my father's side, and my GF is completely of English and Scottish descent whose family came here as Puritans in the 1600s and both lines on her side had always called Massachusetts and the NYC area their home all through the years.
