The US Gas code on bonding the gas line to the panel box ground has consequences.
We buried a thousand gallon propane tank on a project. The building was having a lightning arresting system installed and the installer wanted to bond to the gas line. Ummm, fuck off!! If you do I'll cut it off.

You do know that the lightning protection system bonds to the grounding electrode system. Usually the big ground ring that goes around the building, to multiple grounding electrodes, to steel in the footings, to steel in the building. We bond all flammable tanks and systems to the grounding electrode system, in some cases it is a code requirement you bond it. The purpose is so you don't get static discharge around dangerous gases. That semi that pulls up to a fuel system and connects to the truck tank and truck with a big ground clamp is also connected to the Lightning Protection System via the main ground bar. The more ways you can physically connect a ground source the actual earth, is a good thing.
