Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

If ranching paid his bills he probably would have done only that. Once the truck is in the mix money wise, a guy might as well pull a few loads for $$ when ranching is slow. Probably parks the truck for calving and haying etc. If he is the relief truck for the steady haulers’ vacations etc it works.
Cows made me a modest living while allowing me to raise my sons how and where I wanted, in the middle of God's own Cattle Country.
They learned how to hunt and fish in the middle of where people pay good money to come and do the same.

After the last boy graduated HS, I found my nights free so took up the truck.
I am the only driver hauling to two stations with bulk plants that also do rural deliveries.
I never just "park the truck", I fit it in.

I do all my own fencing, calving, haying, cattle work (with neighbors help for branding and shipping etc)

The cows still pull their weight, the truck allows me to have operating capitol, stay debt free and drive a newer pickup and upgrade equipment sooner. Also insulates me from market fluctuations.

And it keeps my gun safes from having an empty hollow sound. 😉

He pulled a fuel tank most likely local deliveries, no 8 hours of highway running. I've done about 2.5 million pulling multi axle grossing 150,000+ in the last 20 years and 99% of that entirely in Michigan. Lots of 2 lane and average length of each load around 3-4 hours. I put in 65 to 70 hours a week with a substantial part of that being loading and unload time. I've been pulling B-train flatbeds almost exclusively for the last 14 years.
You sound like you drive more full time and my hat is off to you.

Depending on which pipeline I load at and which bulk plant I deliver to (I do not deliver to the country, they have tankwagons for that) my round trips can be 360, 406, 450 or 496. I think they call those dedicated routes.

l don't know how the math works out on hours per week but at the end of that pay period I had totaled

1,000,413 miles
17,398 hours driving
4,723 hours on duty

and just for shits and giggles 19,134,880 gallons of gas diesel and propane hauled.

It's been a good gig and I feel fortunate to have it.

And, averaging 65mph, as was used in the post, is not realistic.

First glance I thought that was the biggest Afro I ever saw!!

So I'm guessing you missed out on Soul Train and the "natural" hair movement ... basically the 60s in general and parts of the 70s and 50s.

Personally I'll never understand how topiaries and afros never got blended in the fashion world ... or I missed it.
