Will carbon fiber rimfire barrels do well in competition?

Heat should not be an issue with rimfire like it is with centerfire.

I am trying to build a lighter weight precision rimfire for an 8 year old, and I am curious about whether a carbon fiber barrel is the way to go.
I'd go with a short, lighter contour stainless barrel, in a XLR magnesium or aluminum chassis, a light weight scope and rings, personally I am not a fan of carbon fiber barrels and would look at other ways to save weight if I was to build a light-er comp rifle.

You may also want to look at a light weight Kidd.

We have built a few on MullerWorks barrels, shot very accurate and lightweight, we are currently waiting on some 1.250 strait carbon fiber barrels to chamber and test.

While I’ve read mixed reviews, I have shot with 2 folks running the Christensen Arms Ranger. The one fella swears by his for bench and squirrel, the other gent shot his several times in our monthly MARS events. He came in second twice against a field of big name equipment and shooters. At 5.1lbs you could do worse. Only caveat is prices seem to be all over the place for the exact same model, so shop carefully.

I bought a Vudoo 360 with a 20" Kukri CFW Bartlein for my little 73 year old wife and it shoots OK for her!

If you're building it for a kid I'd recommend a Tikka T1X, it has a super short bolt throw and the stock barrel profile is pretty light but also shoots great.

I'm going to put mine in a grey birch la chassis to shave some weight compared to the Woox Furiosa it's currently in. I'm debating swapping my scope for a lighter one, I already have the long forend for new chassis and bolted a 12"x1"x3/8" brass bar in it to help it balance. The stock shipped yesterday so I'll have it together this week and post how it balances and final weight

How do you like that WOOX chassis? And what model is it? I've been eyeing the WOOX's for a long time.

It's a cool stock and I really like the butt stock and all the adjustments but the forend is pretty tall for PRS matches. I've had it for a few years and I haven't had a single issue with it. I also really like how it comes apart with the push button.

I think I'm gonna put it on the PX or I might make a longer forend and snag a T3X to put in it, not sure which yet.

The most accurate of the three videos I had was my first which had a 18” proof barrel on it. Consistently 0.6moa at 100yds with the occasional .25moa group when the stars aligned. I can’t speak for any others, but the vudoo proof combo is super solid.

Thank you sir, this particular build I have in mind would be for a prone match and possible some bench rest I have 2 other RimX in XLR Envy chassis for NRL.

Heat isn't an issue, nor should be vibration. I struggle to think where in rimfire the cost of CF would outweigh just adding 10% in external diameter to the barrel, if you thought you needed more stiffness. A lot of Proof's success and market share is likely a result of just using really good blanks to start with.

I had my gunsmith convert over my 18" Rimx proof research carbon barrel to my vudoo action. Funny enough, after coming the breech, it fits and shoots equally on all 3 of my vudoo actions I currently have. It's been cut with the good ol 52D reamer and was a test to see if the 52 chamber makes this decent shooting barrel shoot even better (was a solid performer already but does shoot noticably better now with same ammo). I also knew that the harmonic temperament is different between carbon fiber and stainless steel. I was able to " tune" my JK Armament suppressor by adding baffles and shooting it till it hit a sweet spot. I was knocking over sparrows (7 for 10) at distances of 90-115yds with ok ammo, not Tenex or Centerfire X lol.

This was theory and I wasn't willing to lose that much money by selling it at a loss so I got it to a vudoo and I'm pleased that it works. Benchrest season is coming and to make under the weight cap and play in Custom Class at our club of 10.5 lbs I hope to run this as a full benchrest rig

From what you have seen do all your Vudoo actions time and headspace the same?

So far they have been so close, I seen no issues, they all fire and shoot the same ammo the same. Small batch to say they are the norm as far as measurements but currently I have 7 barrels and 3 actions and they are all interchangeable with the coned breeches and if the barrel was from a 360, then the 360 barrels work fine with the extractor grooves and v22 with v22 take off barrels. Could be all luck that this is working out too..

100 yd 5 shot groups with My 360 Ace barrel take off UNTOUCHED (flier was to test the wind direction over flags)

I have a bergara b14R with the factory carbon wrapped barrel. It has been quite impressive in my teen daughter’s hands. It sits in an MPA hybrid.
Same. B14 cf barrel. Competes great in comps. I actually went back to the OEM stock from the MPA chassis. Just got annoyed by lugging that much weight around. I shoot better and faster with the OEM stock.
