Charter captain goes pirate in Florida

I've seen a lot of hot headed Captains and Pilots (often due to low sleep, long hours, financial stress, a sprinkling of substance abuse and being born an asshole)
I fish with a captain out of south padre island. He works long days, and nights, captains for larger boats on his days off, and puts people on fish day in and out. He’s also the nicest guy I ever met on the water.
Regardless of whether one is rested or fatigued, one’s true nature always comes out.

He hasn't made it to gen pop yet, they keep you in confinement for the first couple days before you get classified. From which he will likely bond out assuming he has a bond, as the majority do.
It's not over yet, in fact his problems are just starting. The USCG is waiting for their turn at him and they don't fuck around. And their charges are going to be Federal.

He's not only lost his Capt. Lic., he supposedly has lost his boat as well.

And the others on the boat are also in trouble as they weren't just innocent clients but local charter captains as well.

Can you imagine the conversation with the wife....
"Honey you might have to get a job"
"What the fuck did you do now?????"
"Well I went all roid raging on a kid and the little bastard streamed it"
"You fucking moron you never learn do you"
Thing is, if he acts that way to a total stranger in a public area, you can only imagine how he may treat his wife in private. I hope not, but I bet.
Fuck that asshole, he's a bully and deserves what he gets.

You noticed the guy sitting on the gunwhale kept his back to the camera. He probably didn't want to be involved or identified.

It was "boys day out" for his buddy captains.
I saw a pic of charter Cpt Riggs(firefighter) and he was promoting their veteran charter capt association, that caters to veterans and leo.
i am fair certain the "association" in total, was on tbe boat. Real stand up bunch.
Cannot find that promotional pic anymore. Someone is scrubbing hard, erasing profiles.

Not sure what it is about putting white guys in over equipped fishing boats turns them into Capt. Asshole, Boss of All Waterways and High Seas.

You see it in bass tournaments all the time. The petty squabling, butthurt, jealousy and chickenshit tattling by grown men to officials is no way to spend the day off relaxing and fishing.

Drifting along a bluebonnet covered shoreline in an aluminum flatbottom, a bucket of minnows and stringer of crappie and bass hanging on the side and the smell of a 3hp Johnson 4 stroke is fishing.

If some turd in a $60K sonar equipped Miss Budweiser fishing boat wanted to talk shit, we would have gone to the bank and settled it. But that never happened because that element didn't exist back when fishing was fishing.

If you're smelling your 4-stroke, you got a problem with the motor.
Just sayin.

Now, let's talk about that wonderful 2-stroke exhaust.
I love it, and I hate it at the same time.

The smell of a gassy, rich running 3hp. 2 stroke and cigarette smoke on a spring day when 'the whites are running' is heaven on earth.

Firemen in FL are required to intervene in violent incidents while off duty? Yeah OK.

No. But they are expected to stop their asshole buddy from threatening a kid while they are all on a boat together going out to threaten kids. Fuck that piece of shit fireman.

That’s intervening. He’s not a cop. You can’t hold him accountable for what someone else did on a boat just because he was there.

You are completely wrong. But you go ahead and be wrong. It's America.

Example? About 10 years ago Daquawn drove Tyrone over to a coffee shop near Tacoma. Tyrone killed four policemen. Daquawn drove him home. He never got put of the truck. He still got charged, even though in your mind he did absolutely nothing.

Why didn’t the fireman get arrested then? Where does it say they went looking for the kid from the night before? Looks to me like they ran into him and Captain Brock lost it.

Message from the Fire Chief:
Having viewed the video that has prompted so many views and comments, I understand the visceral reaction it evokes. The aggressor(s) in the video are unknown to me and I will reserve my comments regarding their behavior.
What I will comment on is one of the men on that boat is known to me. He is a North Port Firefighter and a celebrated military veteran known for his calm, easygoing demeanor, and his passion for service to his Country and to the citizens of North Port.
The comments I’ve witnessed tonight are in deep contrast to the usual engagement we receive on this page; All submitted without knowing any facts or circumstances before, after, or during this incident that were not captured on the video.
Earlier, we posted that the Fire Department is aware of the incident and will investigate while providing due process and appropriate representation to a valued member of our team. Once the facts are known, we will address appropriately per our policies and standards.
The world I was raised in demanded innocence unless proven guilty. Firefighter Riggs has saved many lives and influenced a positive outcome on many calls in our city, not to mention his sacrifice to fight for our freedom in his military career. We will continue to honor and value his past service to country and his investment in our community as we determine the facts of the case and address them.
I am honored to serve all of you in our community, as I am honored to represent all of those that serve this community. You have all invested your trust in our leadership team at the Fire Department and I would ask that you continue to do so knowing that we will address this situation once we have all of the facts.
Thank you so much for taking the time to digest this information and for trusting us to continue to provide exceptional public safety services in every manner that you have come to expect.

Those two events are not the same. A car driver for someone committing a crime is different than being in a place at the wrong time.

I don’t think anyone suggested he broke any law, so arrest would be inappropriate. But you can sure get fired by your employer (Fire Dept in this case) if they feel your conduct in public is unacceptable. I don’t really think this quite rises to that level though, and it sounds like his Chief doesn’t either. He’s probably going to get a warning to stay out of controversial videos and stop hanging out with a-holes. I do agree that one or more of those guys should have dialed their Homie back, and for sure not let him board the other vessel. Friends usually try to keep each other from letting their stupidity get the better of them.

Edit to add: based on his history, ol’ Brock needs to listen to a couple ol’ Jim Croce songs (Bad Leroy Brown, and Don’t Mess Around With Jim). He’s a front runner for a Darwin FAFO award.

I spent decades in Miami, which proves that God punishes people in this life. My dad had a big boat, and we used to fish off Miami and in the Bahamas. I know a little about the fishing culture.

It is full of raging idiots with huge egos. The amateurs are bad, and the professionals are much worse. It is amazing to me that anyone could have a big ego while pursuing a trade a monkey can do. Outwitting fish is a low bar to clear. But the water is covered with monster narcissists.

I have never met a professional fisherman or captain who was smart or in any way impressive. They are typically high school graduates who would otherwise be mowing yards.

It is not just common, but routine, for pros to break the law and violate every imaginable rule of fishing etiquette. They barge in on other people they think are using "their" spots and "their" GPS numbers, because they own the ocean. They let other people find schools of dolphin, and then they back in uninvited and clean house. They cut in front of people who are trolling weedlines. They are obnoxious when drunk, which is about 50% of the time. They are extremely rude to their clients, which is amazing. They also expect tips even though they set their own rates. That's moronic.

I remember staying in Harbour Island. There was an imbecile retired fighter pilot who ran a mediocre little yacht called the Strike Fighter. He used to roar past boats at anchor at full speed on his way to the dock. He was the talk of the island. Imagine standing in your galley trying to make a sandwich while a cretin like that wakes your boat.

There is a guy named Bouncer Smith who ran charters in Miami. He had his profile raised because he kept fishing while a swimmer nearly drowned nearby. Made them wait for the authorities to rescue them. Then he made excuses about how he had a paid charter.

This Horner character is a national disgrace. He is a repeat offender, a brat and punk, and he can't seem to learn his lesson. He needs to go to a penitentiary. His buddies on the boat are not much better. Not one of them did anything to deescalate, and one of them egged him one. They should be indicted as accomplices and forced to hire expensive lawyers they can't afford. I don't even care if they violated a law. And I'm pretty sure the one who pushed Horner to attack broke at least one statute. The victim should get a tort shark lawyer to sue them all into oblivion.

People are criticizing the young victim for the way he responded. Well, he was facing four able-bodied cowards who were probably armed. If he had fought or drawn a gun, he might be at the bottom of the river now feeding crabs.

It looks like Horner is a stolen valor case, which would be consistent with his character. He claims he's a former Ranger, but his records say he was a PFC in HR, and no one has found any evidence that the records are wrong. He needs to be put in prison with a bunch of fellow criminals who lift all day, and then when they put him to the test, we will find out whether or not he has Ranger skills. I'm betting not.

I really hate bullies.

It was a boat full of fellow charter captains, iow, a dick measuring contest and Capt. Shortdick was going to show his pals who was the best, meanest captain on the water. He even said so.

He was showing off, trying to prove to his fellow captains who was the toughest. I bet he wouldn't have done that if he had a family of paying clients onboard.

It's just like a bunch of greybearded old men on Harley's on a weekend ride. They don't act like outlaw bikers during the week when they're alone and at their 9-5 jobs.

Fuck the chief, he's a word wizard talking smack.
He shouldn't have opened his pie hole and let things fold out with a thorough investigation.

He knows no more that any viewer of the video and thinks his righteous ass can pipe up and tell everyone to back down.

Fuck off chief and get in your lane

as said,a VG post. i guess i have been lucky. my experience has been party boat captains and workers, charter captains have been about 80% positive. really shouldn't be any other way. it is a word of mouth job. now with the web should be even more so. you can read stuff now on line evals which didn't exist in the 50s-80s. i would say competence maybe less than 80% positive, but? over the 60+ years i have fished i have gotten pretty picky about charters and party boats.

So it looks like he IS a stolen valor guy. Originally, the lawyer said he was a Ranger. Now he's saying he's a combat veteran. Any good lawyer would keep saying "Ranger" if it were true, because it sounds better.

Now he's saying he has a traumatic brain injury. How does that happen when you work in HR? Did he fall over drunk and hit his head, or was he actually in combat?

The lawyer that wrote that no longer represents him and has stepped aside. Just an FYI.

I covered this earlier.
You get the initial statement out tbere early. This creates two camps among the villagers. The veterans circle their wagons.
Now even if the initial statement was complete bullshit, you created 2 stories for the villagers to argue. Meanwhile you walk out the side door, and everyone forgets this happened as soon as the next story goes viral.
They will get or manufacture the next viral sensation, and everyone will forget all about this one.

The combat record somebody dug up does not list a Purple Heart. Is it possible to get your head filled with shrapnel and not get a Purple Heart? Is something like that likely to be omitted accidentally from your record?
Hadn't thought of this....
Considering his record....his TBI may be from a Drunk wreck.
