Because my
I’m not saying you’re wrong but just for educational purposes, how do you know he’s a scammer?
best friend just go took for $300 that’s how I know. He replied I’ll take it to an add and this guy replied with payment info immediately. Friend sent money right away and never even noticed it wasn’t the op. Op replied a few minutes later that the item was sold. Money gone.

I’m not saying it’s science, but “at your earliest convenience” is a giveaway for me as well.

It’s something you’d get out of google translate as a colloquialism that’s not actually used by ANYONE who speaks English as a first language.

Every scam thread you find online that’s a keyword in the conversation.

"at your earliest convenience" = not a USA native speaker..

I assume you hit the report button and reported them.

Seriously, we need to have a big banner at the top of every forum page in the PX that say insist on a video chat or phone call before sending any money, no exceptions.
I’ve been beating on this drummer for a while. A simple chat/video will give you a much better sense if the guy is a crook or not.

Something that irritates me to no end about the PX, is a paper with a hand written note in the SAME picture as the item for sale, is something that's not required. On it is the following. The forum it's being sold on, the date it's being posted and the persons user name. If multiple user names, it could be written next to the forum names.
This is proof they actually have the item. Not a picture ripped from this forum of a previous sale item, or another forum or random picture from the web. While still possible to get scammed this way, it is way way more unlikely.

Buyers also need to NOT reply to a persons thread. There is absolutely no need to ever do so. None, so why do it. DM the person, you have to eventually any ways.
Of all the things I have sold here, I have never started the conversation. You will DM me, or I will not bother with you.

These two things should be rules by now.

The handwritten note on paper next to the item used to work to filter out most scammers (especially with a torn edge on the paper as it was harder to edge select in photoshop, and the editing would be very obvious) but now it's something the scammers can pretty easily photoshop.

I've received a few PMs from scammers offering items with poorly photoshopped pictures with hand written notes, but I've also received some that were very well photoshopped that I couldn't easily see on my phone but it was obvious on the large monitor on my PC.

You can change the rules, but the scammers adapt. Due diligence on the part of the buyer is always required, and a phone call or video chat is usually the best way.

Get with the times and stop hanging on to your things from the past.
Firstly there aren't going to be any "rules" like you want them, it's clearly listed to be on you to protect yourself.

The best way to handle things today is to insist on a video chat with the person and the item.
That's a way better idea than any of this notes and stupid special pictures stuff.
Total goat rope.

Video chat or bust.
If I'm selling stuff, I'm not doing any of the stupid goat rope stuff from tire kickers about special photos, I'm like, hey pick up that phone you have in your hand at hit the video button and let's chat, otherwise go kick tires elsewhere.

The same if I'm a buyer, hey let's chat and you get money or hey no problem I don't need it that bad.

Ouch.

Bet he slows down next time.

I know most members who get had are not as active as most. If you frequent the px or threads like this you’ll notice scammers have a pattern. When something works they stick with it

These patterns eventually get picked up and the scammers move to something else

These accounts are all tied together. So although reporting the account may get rid of it the scammers just create another and try again

Most common right now is responding “I’ll take it” to a px add and a scammer responds immediately with a email to send payment to.

A lot of these scams have the same format as far as how the email reads.

Easiest way to not get scammed right now is contacting the owner of the item first via pm. Then making sure if someone contacts you it’s the seller. Typically the seller will have a history in their account. The scammer will have a very small change in the name like a “l” vs a “1” etc. if you click on the name you’ll see there’s no history as the account was created in response to your “I’ll take it”

The other you often see is "I hope today finds you well". The BIG RED FLAG though is that the account doesn't have "SUPPORTER" status, so it can't be the one that posted the item for sale.
