Just curious as to what members have on top of their bolt .223s.

If you don't mind sharing, please list rifle, scope, how far you have stretched it out, and the main purpose of said rifle. If you can post a pic too that would be nice.

Thanks for playing!

Rem 700,Carl Zeiss rapid-z 600 in 6.5-20x50. I have shot it out to 600. Target mostly but from time to time I use it for coyotes on my buddies ranch.

Savage 12FV .223
B&C A2 Medalist with CDI DBM
Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 mil/mil

Used for paper and steel targets; took it out to 645yd last weekend and had an absolute BLAST doing so.

Mine wears a USO 3.2-17. Used for deer and varmint hunting along with banging steel. Shoot it to 800yds on steel. 1:8 twist barrel and 75 Amax's.

Re: What's mounted on top of your .223?

I've got a Leupold Mk4 4.5-14x40 pr with Nightforce .885 low rings and 0 moa two piece base. Rifle is a Remington SPS tactical in a Mcmillan HTG stock with Badger M4 bottom metal.
Use it for mainly hunting and a bit of target shooting. It's light enough to carry around all day if I'm on foot. I usually go out to about 450m with this rifle (shooting steel) as I only use hunting ammo in it.

Thanks ggmanning. Always been a fan of the M40 series of rifles so that was the look I was going for, the M40A1 look. It's nowhere near spec but I think it still looks pretty good.

Re: What's mounted on top of your .223?

Vortex Viper 6-24x50 on top of a Savage Model 10 Predator. It's intended purpose was solely for coyotes. However, I was recently bitten by the long range bug and pushed it out to 700 on steel with 55 grain V-Max bullets. I'm currently developing a 77 grain SMK load to see if this .223 is capable of 1000 yards...

Re: What's mounted on top of your .223?

I have a Savage fcp-k that HAD a Viper PST 4-16 on it. Since I sold that puppy, it now wears an SSHD 5-20. I haven't even shot it with the SSHD because I just got it mounted, but with the PST and 75gr Hornady match loads, I got hits in rapid succession at 710 yards. I felt like I could take it a bit further than that...maybe 8, but I am just not certain. With a 1:7 twist barrel and some 90gr VLD's, I know I could do it

Rem 700 5R AAC M4-2000, NF 3-15 MLR, SEEKINS rings base. I've shot it to 1,000. Shoot 69 and 77grain SMK ON top of H322. I usually shoot to 500 with consistent hits on steel. It's capable of .5 with an occassional .25 group. That being 5 shot groups. It's a pleasure to shoot. Plan to get the knob upgraded this week via Phx Custom.

Re: What's mounted on top of your .223?

Whidden Gunworks with a Surgeon action. McMillan A-3 and Surgeon bottom metal. 1:7 twist Broughton. I shoot 80gr VLD's in FTR class to a grand with it. The glass is a U.S. Optics 3.2X17X44 with a 35mm tube. I have replaced the glass since the picture with a USO 3.8x22x58 SN-3, better to see the X ring at a grand.
