okay that was a lie.

I've got a Kimber Montana 270 WSM coming, and although most of my elk/deer are shot at ranges under 500 yards (i like to get close), I'd like to plink/dick around with this gun to as far as I can dial.

So... share your experiences, loads, thoughts, flames, whatever you'd like!

I'm thinking 140-150 SSTs, 140 NBTs, some Bergers, and POSHIBLY some of the 165 Matrixes, although I'm unsure of how they'll stabilize (though I am up at 7300').

Although it's not the WSM, my buddy has used his Tikka T3 Lite in .270 Win in a long range match. He was using the 135 gr. SMKs with H4831SC, Winchester brass, and CCI BR2 primers and had no issues hitting steel between 600 and 900 yards.

Too many people discount the .277 as being an accurate long range caliber. Since that match I have picked up a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 Win. It is just as accurate, if not more so, than my Savage 10FP in .308 Win with McMillan stock.

You're on the right track. I like the 140 and 150 SST's and any of the Berger VLD's for longer range shooting in my personal 270 Win. I learned on a 270 Win with the 135 SMK's and they will shoot well. Mag Pro has yielded the highest velocity I have found in the 270 WSM. I also like R22 and H4831.

The Nosler Accubonds have a higher BC with the 140gr bullets than the 140gr BT's. At .496 it's the same as the 150gr BT's

yes. i'm not sure what's better ... the lighter accu, or the heavier bt. guess the difference is negligible and now only depends on what the rifle likes more.

I've been playing with the 165 and 175 matrix in a Win 70 featherweight, as well as the 150gr Berger. I'm at 150 ft give or take and generally less than 60f, and they have been stable for the 200 yards I have been plinking. I don't have a final load yet for the 175s, but on the 165, Fed primer, Norma brass, Win 760 at 55.4gr has performed best so far. Now that I'm happy with accuracy I'll put it over a chrony and see where it is at speed wise, and then take it out on the tundra and see how it does a long way off.
