Our ancestors would cry.............

Re: Our ancestors would cry.............

Damned tree huggers....sink a decommissioned ship by using it for target practice until she slips below the waves in 6,000 feet of water, and it's an environmental tragedy. Spend a mint to plan to drop a decommissioned aircraft carrier in 150 feet of water as an artificial reef, and somehow that's being environmentally conscious.

I'm not particular either way, I'd just like a single perspective to argue. A sane person can't argue for both sides.

Re: Our ancestors would cry.............

Them fish-kissin' idiots seem to have a schizophrenic motto:

"For every solution, I have a problem"

For a group who does nothing but complain about every feather-sniffin' issue under the sun, just to get their voices heard, they continue to negate their own viability.

Re: Our ancestors would cry.............

My ancestors were pretty practical folks. Probably leaning more to the scrap yards as the jobs provided, as well as the salvage of all that steel and other material would be useful.

But the reefs provided by the wrecks are known quantities now and provide benefits that are easily justifiable from a financial perspective.

And it's hard to quantify the high value of target practice on actual, life like targets!

Speaking only for my own ancestors, I'd say they're fine with this!

Do we know if the ships create usable habitat at 6K feet? I am sure some organisms are benefiting from it and will enhance the food chain at some point.

+1, but at 100 feet. My open water cert wont let me dive deeper than that.

Not much sanity among the likes of ELF, PETA, EPA, etc.

I'll raise you, one more carrier and two destroyers will really benefit these strange creatures--a cause worthy of support. How 'bout emptying some of our prisons for a long, slow ride out to sea first? Jerry can come along too........xray9

Re: Our ancestors would cry.............

The ocean is less than 5% explored, but some folks are dead certain that X event, or Y event is positively guaranteed to extinguish the world as we know it. The problem is the phrase 'the world as we know it'. Pretty mostly we don't know it, and the naysayers and knowitalls are just a bunch of self certified tea leaf readers. IMHO

Godzilla is a more richly fact-based account than some of our most celebrated doomsayers' prophecies..

You don't need a cert...just hold your breath and this heavy belt here....

See you in a couple minutes.
