I recently acquired the basis for my long range precision build -- a Savage 11 hunter XP in .308 (center feed 4.4", DBM). It is the bare bones model with the flimsy plastic stock and no accutrigger. I am planning on rebarreling in .260, and replacing everything but the bolt and receiver. I am currently trying to figure out which stock to go with. I would prefer something with an aluminum bedding block, and I don't want it to be too ridiculously heavy as this is not going to be a bench gun. Also it will need to be compatible with bottom metal that accepts AI mags. Intended uses are long range precision classes, maybe some sniper/LRP competitions, and 2nd Amendment purposes.

I have read about a lot of options, but I want to make sure I am not overlooking any, and mostly I am wanting input from those who have actually have experience with some of them.

I am considering anything from a used take-off Accustock, up to the full chasis setups like McRee. I'm not too worried about the price as long as it has the features to justify it. So if you would, please give me your pick, and why you say so.

Re: Recommend me a stock for Savage action

I just recently got an XLR for one of my Savages and I must say, It is an amazing Chassis.

I also have a manners t4a with CDI bottom metal for my other savage. And IT too is amazing. I like them equally the same right now.

Around the same price but the manners may run a little more with the adjustable option and including the CDI metal.

Something else to consider is that the XLR will not need bedded.

I have built a couple budget minded rifles using second generation accustocks. They work well and I have picked them up for less than a 100 bucks.

Best stock imo is Mcmillan, for a Chassis you cant go wrong with either XLR or Mcree, it just depends on what looks better to you.

For saving a few bucks, go with B&C or Stockade, both are very well made stocks and save you some money.

Manners or McMillan are both on the top end for stocks, with good reason. Both are quality, it's just personal preference between the two. I went with McMillan because I like how the marble finish looks.

TacticalWorks sells a Choate/CDI Precision DBM combo for something like $450, but Choates tend to be heavy. If you can stand a bit of extra weight, this is a good option.

I don't like the B&C Tactical Medalist or whatever it's called, but I believe if you order one from TacticalWorks, you can have them inlet it for DBM before sending it to you.

Look into Stockades stocks, as well. I've heard good things about those.

I have no experience with chassis systems, so I won't comment on those.
