I realize I may receive a ton of flak for this but here goes. Both my buddy and I have Lee Classic Handreloaders for our rifles (his 22-250 and my 243). Both of which come with their own loading charts using IMR 4063. Both of us being piss poor college students, we dont have the money to afford any kind of reloading press. That being said, we are interested in reloading to at least factory performance standards or a little better, with the main goal of just being cheaper. We priced everything out and found out we can cut price in half by reloading.

All that being said, is this feasible or a realistic goal?

I hav found that the biggest factor in handloading quality ammo is consistency. Find a load that your rifle likes, then consistently replicate that load including powder charge, bullet, primer, OAL, etc. You can save money, plus find loads that best suit your rifle. Good luck as you start out.

You may not be able to load match grade, but you can still find a decent load with the classic.

If anything try to get a beam or digital scale instead of just using the dippers, and a caliper to check OAL. You can still adjust seating depth with the classic.

You will be surprised what you can buy if you scour the bay and the sale section here on the hide. I think the Lee anniversary set goes for about $100

As for the classic, I still use them, I have one for each hunting caliber/chambering that I own. If I want to whip out a few rounds or take a set with me on a hunt I will bust out the classic.

tap,tap,tap....

We were looking at getting a cheap digital scale as well. For now I think were just going to stick with the load chart that comes with the loader set just to get started, until we find a book. Nice to know these are still being used though...thanks!

Re: Lee "Classic Handloaders"

I haven't used one in a while but still have several on hand and their are outstanding and affordable. I got better results when I weighed each charge on a cheap electronic scale. I keep one in my bug-out bag.
