Hello,

For those that know both models/series,

I am considering buying one of these.

Apart from the bluetooth and storage capabilities of the 4000 series, is it worth to get the 4000 with the density altitude feature?

Thanks.

Thanks TJ.

But cant I just input the new conditions in the bal. program ? I understand the density altitude gives you some kind of factor which will make adjustments easier.

And should the program being used not allow for this factor... still makes sense?

I would get the 3500 and a FDAC. The FDAC has a DA chart on it and all you have to do is compare temp to altitude to calc your DA then slide the card for your drop solution.

Also no worry about dead and leaky batteries with the 3500.

Thanks for the answers.

Does the 4000 create problems with batteries? I assume it just consumes more power?

Re: KESTREL 3500/ 4000 question

I have the 4500NV and love it.Use quality batteries not cheap ones. If you are not going to use your Kestrel for some time take the batteries out to prevent corrosion. The corrosion could potentially eat away into the mother board and no longer function. NK makes great stuff, but us as consumers need to be smart on taking good care of our purchases.

I do agree partly about customers maintaining their equipment, but with the advances in technology, there is no excuse not to have a circuit to automatically shut the system completely down after so many minutes or hours of non-use.

Taking the batteries out is a "work around" not a solution. Not directed at the above poster, just that the Kestrel folks do frequent this forum as well.

I use a 2500 and have had absolutely no issues with that model.
