Getting savage hog hunter on Monday in .308, what's the heaviest load (factory/hand) I can get for her? Been shooting for years but this is my First .308. Mind u I'm 34. U need some input please.
185 grain bullets in the heaviest I seen on Midway. If you hand load you could do whatever. you need to figure out what your intended purpose will be for the rifle, then you can make a decision on what rounds to shoot
Heaviest bullet ive sent out of my savage with a 1:10 twist, same rate as the hog hunter, was 178 gr amax. Works great, probably 185 gr berger would be the biggest I think it can handle with said twist though I could be wrong. It depends on bullet length not weight.
I'vs reloaded some 210 berger vld bullets at 3.050. They shot awesome groups! Experiment, its fun. As long as the chamber can handle it go big and long...
Factory: probably CorBon SMK 190s (IF you can find them in stock anywhere). Handrolls: Berger 230 hybrids. Not really sure either of those are going to be your best bet for hunting as they're match loads.
