I finally got around to setting up a Sam splint cheek weld on my gun, and I've realized it's a damn shame to make such a nice gun so shitty looking. I haven't committed yet but I am seriously considering buying a new stock. I have had trouble finding too many options for the savage 12 action though. Here are the ones I'm looking at...

Bell and Carlson a5. I think this will fit? Love this stock, buddy has it for his 700. Only thing missing adjustment wise is horizontal adjustment of recoil pad. Awfully heavy though and lacks a rail for front mounted nvg (not a killer, but id like the option.) is there a way to securely and precisely mount a rail for nods?

Xlr chassis. Looks absolutely awesome, but I have high quality 1 inch rings and a 50mm obj scope (vortex razor w/ razor rings). I doubt it will clear... Anyone know for sure?

Any more suggestions?

Manners or McMillan of your choice

AICS 2.0, McRee or XLR

The Bell & Carlson A5 Medalist will fit, but it doesn't come inletted for the factory Savage DBM. You can either 1. convert to a fixed blind mag which isn't hard or expensive, or 2. send the A5 Medalist to CDI Precision to be inletted and your factory DBM will work perfectly in the CDI inlet.

Wow I love that mcree stock. Has lop adjustments, comb height adjustment, a folding stock, nvg rail upgrade, Harris ready, several sling points, detachable mags, and monopod... I think the only thing missing is height and cant adjustment on recoil pad and a rail for adjustable bipod location... This might be the one... Any more suggestions before I buy? If only I had the expertise to design a stock myself... Do you think I could get a carbine model mcree and use an xlr buttstock?

Mcree is a good stock, but heavy. My lrp with 5-20 razor and Mcree folder and bipod weighed19.5 lbs. Replaced it with an AICS when they came out. Saved me 1.25-1.5 lb over the Mcree.

I don't mind weight too much. 20 pounds is definitely manageable. The big question right now is whether or not the xlr buttstock will fit on the carbine model... I just love the xlr buttstock and love the mcree chassis, if I could combine both, it'd be a done deal.

Not that the lrp is remotely compact and a folder will not make it discreet, but get a folder for cleaning ease. I was used to dropping or removing my cheekpiece on rifles, now it is a pain on my older rifles since i got a few folders. I got on the Mcree Christmas deal a yr ago in april and a folding chassis is the only way to go. I have a xlr and Mcree while the xlr is light and made nice, i just couldn't get consistent behind it. I prefer everything about the Mcree over the xlr, except weight . I put the Mcree on a varmint contour 6.5 cm savage i built, it is alot handier to use in positional shooting. Nothing wrong with 20 lb rifles, as long as they are chambered in 338lm or bigger. A 6.5 cm 20 lb rifle is straight up buzzkiller and a bitch to shoot in the field or anything but a square range.

No doubt I'm getting the folder. Do you know if the xlr buttstock will fit on a mcree carbine chassis? It looks like just a standard ar15 buffer tube so if an xlr would fit on that I'm sure it'd fit on the mcree

after I bought my first AR15 I fell in love with the pistol grip. I bought the manners t5a for my 700 and it is perfect. not sure if they make them for the savage but you could always buy the blank and let you local smith fit it to your action
