I know these threads are like beating a dead horse, but they give everyone something to do.

Just as the title says im looking to get a rifle, optics, and base for a budget of $2000-$2500. It will be used for paper punching and maybe some white tail hunting from a box stand. nothing beyond 700 yds. Caliber i prefer .243 and larger.

Feel free to post pics if you have something similar.

Blake.

Buy a Savage LRP in 243 for 900.00 it comes with Repeater Precision Target Action, 26 inch heavy fluted barrel and HS precision stock or sell barrel for 150-200 and buy CBI match grade barrel for 340.00 and then spend 1500 on any scope you want then shoot stupid small groups. Have 3 of these rifles now 2 with 7mm Saum barrels from CBI and 1 with a 28 inch CBI 308 barrel that kid uses for f class shooting. They all shoot very small groups with boring regularity.

Remington 700 5R in .308 with a 20 MOA picatinny rail and a 3-15x42 FFP SS scope. Spend the rest on match grade ammo and time at the range. Range time is more far more valuable than a marquee scope or rifle.

X's 2- this would be a great set up for your intended purpose and should be less than $2k leaving plenty of money for ammo...

That's pretty much the direction I've taken, although I went with a 12x fixed SS scope. The entire rig, including base, rings, bipod, stock pack, and sling came in under $2K. I do hope to snag a NF at some point, but the SS is just fine for the time being.
