I was wondering about that. Way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth we had to answer a lot of questions about affiliation with the Communist Party and other subversive groups. A yes on any of them was an absolute "no fucking way" rejection.

In today's mil I wonder if those questions went the way of DADT?

I’'d be interested in reading his reasoning for “Capitalism Ruined My Life”. I’'d be willing to talk to him. I'd want to know if he understood the difference between Capitalism + moral boundaries b/c of God or a Higher Power or Kharma or b/c you’re just a cool dude, is NOT what has been going on since this country was founded? I’d want to know if he understood that 1913 brought us both the (private) Federal Reserve as well as Income Taxes to service the debt that Congress authorizes this Private FED to create out of thin air, and then loan back to the Gov at interest to the Citizens?..... That after 1913 all that “+” stuff above, went right out the window. What we have now is just an exercise in greed and power in incremental steps back to serfdom. In short - he may be worth saving. I want to know if he is he really a Communist, or is he just pissed off about the corruption in the system? I can see where a small thinker would see the answer as wholesale change, not “fix what is broken”.

Last i knew it was NOT easy to get into a military school. 30 years ago the one person I personally know who applied and got in had to jump through a shit ton of hoops. Had letters of recommendation from senators, bishops, and the Governor among a few. I saw his portfolio before he sent it off. It was no 2 page resume that is for sure.

With that, this douche bag had to pull the wool over someones eyes. He has obviously never been a "team player".

He needs to be made an example of.

I thought about this all night with the nagging question...why would someone with his beliefs EVER want to go to West Point, or even serve at all in a military whose sole purpose is to defend the values and way of life that they so strongly oppose? I can think of only one reason, and that is some form of subversion/sabatoge/espionage. The best analogy I can come up with is someone with a psychotic hate for other people deciding to go to Nursing School. Unfettered access to patients to inflict maximum suffering would be the only reason. It really upsets me that this guy ever got IN, much less graduated without being immediately canned. If he is serving, he is guilty of treason at the very least, and should be prosecuted with extreme prejudice. His own statement of his beliefs via his social media alone are enough to PROVE he is an enemy of the State.

WHY would he go to West Point??

I'll take the latter. Also, I think that given the previous Administration's position on these types of things, he thought it would be accepted, just like Manning, just like Bergdahl, etc. He probably sees himself as a pioneer. One thing that concerns me in that football article you posted is his dogged determination to learn and develop a skill that he had no previous experience with until he excelled at it. The coach had to force him to scale back his practicing because he was damaging his ankles. That's scary dedication, if applied to a more nefarious pursuit. Perhaps psychotic, even.

My understanding is that if you cannot fulfill your military commitment once you graduate, you are then on the hook for the cost of your education. I will ask a friend of mine that graduated from Annapolis for clarification...

I have no first hand knowledge but would 'guess' that only applies if he refuses. If he were injured in training, or in this case, dismissed because of his beliefs, that may not hold true.

That is essentially what my buddy told me. If you quit, you owe the cost of education ($185,000 in 2000). But, if you are forced out, you are off the hook.

Applicants to West Point must receive a nomination for their applications to be considered. Those nominations usually come from senators or representatives. In this case, it came from Altmire, who served as a member of Congress in Pennsylvania’s 4th congressional district from 2007 to 2013.

Rapone’s father, a local politician in Pennsylvania, explicitly disavowed his son’s political views Tuesday in a Facebook post. Richard L. Rapone explained that Spenser tried to join West Point straight out of high school but was not accepted. Spenser then enlisted in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan after which point he again applied to West Point. This time around, West Point accepted him.

I suspect he'll get a closeup tour of Leavenworth eventually. That's as good a place as many for folks of his stripe.

He will get a dishonorable discharge.... I doubt they can make him pay back his tuition costs. Blood from a stone, as it were.

The sad part is that it is not wrong of him to have whatever political beliefs he wants. I think that in professing to believe in Communism, he is stupid, misguided, on the wrong side of history and, frankly, in the wrong profession if he thinks this way. But it is NOT illegal or immoral or even treasonous to believe in the communist economic system. Despite the USA's best efforts to stamp it out from the teens through the 1960's. The Communist party and all its beliefs are perfectly legal. And there is nothing wrong with a serving officer having those beliefs (ok... there is everything wrong with it... there is nothing illegal or disqualifying about it).

What IS wrong is that he violated the UCMJ in a serious way by making political statements while in uniform and while a serving officer in the U.S. Army. And that means that he will likely be stripped of his commission and given a dishonorable. Which pretty much makes him unemployable. Except as a political aide to Bernie Sanders or as a U.S. Congressman. You want to bet this little twat shows up as the darling of the Antifa left? Gets a great job... a high-paying gig somewhere at a thinktank... and laughs all the way to his seat in Congress or being mayor of San Francisco.

We haven't heard the last of this future John Kerry.
