Have not had a new, custom barrel in many years. Had a Ruger RPR that fouled incredibly easy and the Bergara barrel had significant copper fouling, but cleaned up easier than the Ruger.

Took the rebarreled Bergara to the range Friday with a JP compensator newly installed. This was the 2nd range trip with the new barrel. After 90 rounds fired, cleaning up the Hawk Hill....got a few patches of carbon out using a Boretech Carbon remover. I like using a bronze .223 brush with a patch wrapped around it, soaked in carbon remover. 4 passes with the brush/patch combo and dry patch to clean out. After the carbon, I put a copper solvent (Boretech Eliminator) thru the barrel and let it sit....dry patched out....nothing, no blue/green....not a lick.

In keeping with Lowlight's minimalist cleaning policy, I was going to put it away....but I wanted to confirm that there was no copper fouling which really surprised me. I put a more aggressive copper solvent thru it (Montana Extreme, the really smelly one) and let it sit. Dry patches to clean it out....nothing. Wow.....this barrel is awesome. Going to save me tons of cleaning time.

Final step, some Montana Extreme bore conditioner, 2 dry patches and into the safe.

Took it out again for the 3rd time since the rebarrel. Man, this rifle can shoot.
Maybe my best (accuracy wise) day behind a bolt gun ever. Fired 100 rounds, 20 targets @ 5 rounds each. All factory ammo. 60 rounds Hornady ELD 140 gr and 40 rounds Hornady Black 140 gr. The JP muzzle brake is doing very well.

15 of 20 targets at or sub 0.5 moa.
Many even better....a lot better.

The remaining 5 were between 0.5 to 0.97 moa.

260 rounds down the barrel and have just been testing at 100 yards, seeing which ammo it likes best. The ELD is the best performing. The Black seems to open up a bit. All of the 5 targets that were greater than .5 moa were with Black ammo. That being said, I did get a couple of really good groups with the Black, but the ELD was the most consistent.

Just curious, what length barrel and what velocities were you getting from the Hawk Hill? 6.5 Creed?

So today, had a buddy bring his Chrony to the range.

Factory Hornady ELD 140 gr Average 2806 fps , ES 29
Factory Hornady Black 140 gr Average 2822 fps , ES 55

Barrel was a 27" Hawk Hill 6.5 CM

Of course the flier was the 5th round @ 200 yards.
