There has been a war on masculinity since Obama showed up.
It actually started with the birth of the feminist movement in the 60s. It was the birth of the attack on traditional masculine characteristics. It also was the start of the transformation from a traditional family.
It picked up a huge amount of steam during the past 20 years. I’ve written about this before on other threads.

But perhaps they do understand while at the same time assuming that they are the "smartest man in the room" they will be able to control the chain reaction they have set in motion.

Actually happened to meet a older black dude from near where Im from, down Laurens County way, Mr Nolan. He woulda fit right in with us here, and happened to have the same particular interest I do specifically in trapping predators/varmints and the nuances of which animals seem to fight to the death no matter how hopeless vs the ones who seem to know what time it is.. it might surprise which animals fall into which category.. as well as our shared interest in the old timey ways of food preservation/dry curing/etc..

Which brings me to my final point - Theres such a stark contrast between the dindus up here in/near Atlanta, and folks like the aforementioned Mr Nolan, or Mr Mike, the black gentleman who was my pap's designated straw boss when pap wasn't with us to bale up straw and haul it to town for sale... the type of black folks who have Mr/Ms/ma'am/sir just as ingrained in their vocabulary as me, and dont consider it some type of uncle tom bullshit to use such vocabulary conversatin with white folks. Id say the cultural resistance to alternative behavior is stronger in minority groups rather than more so. A minority group is more likely to homogenize due to the fact they are somewhat "surrounded".
Sometimes that culture they homogenize around has benefits for their group making them stronger in a positive way.
Sometimes the culture they assume can be negative and not be beneficial.
Still every group is just a subset of humanity and will exhibit positive or negative traits in common with the other subsets, bigger or smaller, yet proportionally similar.

I'd reckon you're right when it comes to un-cityfied campesinos ie the Hispanic equivalent of country folks, and to a lesser extent Mexican society as a whole (I don't know as much about other south/central American countries as I do of Mexico thanks to una ex novia de Guerrero..).
