I tried so look through pages for some details and maybe I'm looking at the wrong location. (Thread wise)

I want to do a custom build (at least I think) or possible get a rifle to build on, but not sure where to start.

Is the Norma action something that a company already builds as a complete rifle or is this a 338 (or something) that needs to be modified to make a 300 Norma? I know a barrel is a barrel so that I'm not too worried about, but I guess here is my main questions:

Where do I start? Complete rifle (who makes one) or just do all custom?

I guess what I'm also asking is, is there a central location for a lot of data for building, modifying, altering existing equipment or what brass, bullets powders, primers and such are for the Norma?

I'm doing a lot of research but I'm sure someone at least one of you knows a lot more that can help me.

Thanks!

You need an action with a Lapua bolt face. Not sure if any factory guns come in this cartridge - probably little to none. Most good gunsmiths have a reamer for this cartridge though.

Norma, Lapua and Pederson all make brass for the .300NM. Look in the reloading portion of this forum for common .300NM load components - lots of info there.

Best custom maker is Mark at SAC IMHO.

Bummer on no budget rifle to start with.

Do you have personal experience with a custom build? Deciding who to go with when there are a lot of choices. At least from what I can research

I may be misreading, but this sounds like your first swing at a precision rifle. If that is the case, I would strongly suggest something more manageable in terms of caliber selection.

I'm all for guys building what they want.. just don't want you to regret it.

No it's not my first. I have .308 I had built and on to something more powerful. The .338 was a favorite of mone but really didn't want to not enjoy the shooting with the recoil over a day. The 300win was a close second till I read about the 300NM.

I'm building it slowly so I have time to source parts, ammo, powders etc.

I've been reloading for a few years now so none of this is really new to me, just this caliber is.

We need more info. Your question is kind of like....I need a car, it must have a V-8, what should I buy?

You can one stop shop a 300 Norma from a whole bunch of places, but we have to know more if we’re gonna make recommendations. Does it need to mag feed? Are you going to be shooting in the field or off the bench? Do you prefer chassis systems, or more traditional style stocks? Any weight requirements? Are you actually going to shoot ELR, and are you sure you want a 300 Norma?
