WTF Facebook!

I can't wait until TV and radio gets this targeted advertising thing down.

Oh, I don't know, I do get tired of seeing commercials about vaginal yeast infections and female bladder control garments (never mind the mind numbingly long SPCA commercials). A little ad targeting or filtering might actually be a good thing. I mean, no one makes me buy what I see. Well, except AI of course (those chiseling bastards)! :)

If you think a flip phone with no GPS is untrackable, I suggest you look up "Stingray Tower". GMSK sells phones for several thousand that thwarts this, otherwise everyone is susceptible. Otherwise, the phone providers know what towers your phone is talking to, old school triangularization gives them all the location data they want.

Shit, if you want to see data selling whores, just look to your local DMV and their billion dollar industry selling "public" information. Buy a used car and get 150 mailings for extended warranty services over the next three years. Only Jeremiah Johnson lived "off the grid".
Never said it was untraceable, anything electronic is traceable, that's he industry I retired from. I was replying to buying habits, SM ect. If I wanted to be untrackable that is not in question.

I just don't get the butt-hurt. OMG, a company is trying to sell something to me that I might actually need/want.

That's what you think... till you realize it actually is not always being used in your best interest... A lot of really big online sellers are up on "Dynamic Pricing" and the price you see may be slightly higher because they think you are interested in buying. Happens all the time and most don't notice if it's a dollar or two more. Just for some reason the price is a bit higher from a certain IP address or if you have cookies matching a certain user.

This is just starting to become a new business model, but before long the data miners will be selling information on who will pay more based on their datasets. The information brokers are already just starting to offer those services openly.

It works both ways...
Yep it can easily be used both ways, an depending tactics very effectively as well, with the right gear an key strokes

add EW is a wide open field an has been from the 1950's todate. Even though the Brits started most of it, Americans have the ability to take off the cuffs an play in the deep end of the pool with anyone, but we don't need a Maywest like some country's

I'm hoping they develop the algorithm soon that identifies that you bought what you were looking for and stops trying to sell you the same product. I'm still getting ads for a Dell Laptop I bought last week. And I am currently using.

I have a ghost facebook account to follow and ask questions on exactly two extremely informative groups. That's all i use it for.

What ive noticed with all the suggestions facebook and others put in ads, is that having a google account signed in
on the device triggered alot of it.

Google watches what you browse and sells the info to facebook and other groups instantly.

I went into google privacy settings and unchecked every check mark i could find and it def reduced the targeted ads.

Just my 2 cents.

So, Facebook is a company worth billions. But, the sell no consumer products.

How is it they make all of this money?

Well, they are selling any and every single thing they find out about you.

YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. And, there are no restrictions on the type or amount of data they collect.

If you own anything made by or that uses Facebook or Google software you are being monitored.

I think more than FB is listening. Or maybe it is FB idk, but a few weeks back me and the gf were texting (still old enough to prefer talking but, women like the text haha) and the whole defund police thing was a topic. I sent her a text saying a more effective fix would be defund the media instead! Then I said, I should have a shirt made that says that! Well, dammed if an ad for a defund the media shirt didn't pop up while she was online a few days later. I hate technology! Well, computerized tech anyway.
