9yo supposedly tells mom he's gay over the summer and after the 4th day of bullying at school he kills himself. It's a sad situation, yeah, but 9? And it says his mom said "he discovered he was gay over the summer and was so proud to tell his classmates". WTF? Really? What planet did mom go to school at to give that kind of advice? How the fuck did a pre-pubescent kid figure it out? Gay, not gay, it's not 4th grade material. 4th grade and I was into GI Joes and got my first shotgun but fucking dudes was not on the radar.

Everything in the article makes sense for a kid in puberty but not a 9yo. At 9 you aren't that adept at hiding emotions from parents and short of a firearm suicide wouldn't be easy at all (which I'm guessing wasn't the method since it doesn't blather gun control bullshit for half the article). And where the fuck was mom? It's obvious she wasn't too bright but how did the kid manage to kill himself without her knowing?

Anyone else smell bullshit? If this had happened 20 years ago the parents would be under suspicion for murder and that'd be the story, nobody would have bought this then.

I think it's pretty early in a child's development for sexual imprinting at age 9, and I would have thought the kid would have showed some victim signs of bullying that the parents would be aware of that. But I don't have all the facts here to make a judgement call on the internet. He might have been a really aware kid, parents working 2 jobs and aren't around much, etc etc. It sucks. Kids seem to be introduced to adult topics at an earlier age these days yet their maturity level is lower than a similar aged peer of years ago.

Confronted with the 24/7 news cycle bad news and adult topics are the white noise of every day life. Kids are aware enough and get this exposure.

I only feared nuclear attack as a child growing up. These days kids fear priests, school shooters, illegal aliens, sharks in the water.

As a kid my kids age I was grabbing public transportation from my suburb location and going to Red Sox games or hanging out in Harvard Square with my likewise 11 or so year old friends.

No kid today has that freedom or ability it seems.

Part of that issue again goes to the 24/7 news cycle as parents now have the same fears as the kids - not for themselves but for their kids.

A big knock on Mitt Romney was that he wanted to return the US to the 1950s.

There is a lot to dislike Mitt Romney for but living the ideal of Father Knows Best or Leave it to Beaver shouldnt be one of them save for a few glaring issues on gender and race.

I think I remember the moment I realized what gay meant reading a news article about Barney Frank and it dawned on me "He kisses Dudes". That was my awakening of what it meant to be gay failing to really grasp the idea of the Billy Christal character in "Family".

My kids are 100 percent gay aware and view it as a norm.

Billy Christal was ground breaking playing a gay man in my childhood time. Based on my kids TV/cultural awareness if I asked them they would probably think 50% of the world is gay.

I dont teach my kids "lifestyle" other than to say people can do whatever they want as long as it harms no other. Likewise I try to teach them nothing in life is free and you must work to get where you want to be.

Another moment of bright light clarity like my Barney Frank example - a moment of clear understanding of suicide and what it meant. Grade school reading history books about WWII and seeing a picture of a Japanese Kamikaze diving into a US ship. I couldnt fathom that a human would intentionally do this. I didnt understand how they could take the pain of the crash or how they would "live" with being dead. This is my first understanding of what suicide was. It was a last resort of a desperate enemy.

In the "white noise" of today suicide is a viable remedy - shooters do it, bombers do it, VBIED drivers do it, pop culture figures do it, youtube gamers do it.

I dont think society is any more fucked up as it has always been its just that with 24/7 news we no longer compress the news into what is really news but every fucking thing that doesnt need to be reported is now used as filler to keep that 24/7 talking head talking.

I've seen this. I met a woman who had a kid with a POS when she was 17 or something and then figured out she was gay/bi. Her son was all kinds of screwed up. He wore a tutu, kept getting kicked out of school and smoked cigarettes. Guess what mom was upset about? Cigarettes.

Do a google search of Ashawnty Davis. 2 parent household. Stood up to her bully and got her ass kicked and the other little kids shared it all over social media. You can watch the video too. The bullying didn't stop because she stood up...it only intensified. Little 10 year old girl went home and hung herself.

You are speaking in a HUGE generality about bullies, their dynamics and the bullied getting their asses beaten when they stand up for themselves. I am older but when I was in school EVERY SINGLE bully got their asses kicked, and kicked badly, by a smaller kid they picked on. I saw it happen to each on of them, repeatedly for the dumb ones. Is that the norm, probably not but neither is your absolute statement either.

Bullying is taking a huge toll on kids, on the bullied and the bully because life kicks the shit out of bullies later on and karma always gets hers. In my opinion the appropriate people are not punished in the case of bullies. The parents of these little assholes should be held fully accountable for their kids actions AND they should be punished swiftly and accordingly. The punishment should not happen on the tenth report but on the first.

I've had more than a few adult friends take their lives or attempt to; mostly in the military. The stigma that being depressed or suicidal makes you weak is what keeps a lot of guys from getting help.

Bull shit, you are falling into the trap of blaming everyone else for what one person did. It is important to find to the reason a child can't deal with problems. Attempting to move all problems out of their way is counter productive. If you can't take getting made fun of, there is something wrong with you. Also a good parent wouldn't encourage a 9 year old to express their sexuality of any persuasion. 9 years old is too young to make proclamations of one's sexual orientations.

Also how does a 9 year old even contemplate suicide? Or their sexuality? Parenting, or lack thereof mixed in with an unhealthy dose of social justice impregnated cartoons and children's shows.

I have gay friends who have told me they knew they were different at a very young age and I think this kiddo was trying to make mom happy.

What's most troubling in my eyes is these millennial parents who feel the whole gay and transgender thing is the hip thing to do and are forcing it upon their young children. I've read stories about parents who have allowed their 4 and 5 year old kids be transgender and it makes me out to be like the minority because I feel that's totally fucked up to do to a kid that young, but yet society says that's perfectly fine. And keep in mind I myself am a millennial parent so it does hit close to home. As a parent of young kids, you can NOT take what they say seriously at a young age. They look at a bird and want to be a bird. They see a fairy princess on TV and wanna be a fairy princess. They see a dog walk by and wanna be a dog. Etc. If you take your young son to a toy store and he wants a toy that's meant for a girl to play with, you can't automatically think he's gay or a tranny. Get him the toy, he'll play with it, and then get bored with it and play something else. Maybe that's why people say parenting is so hard nowadays because parenting requires common sense and common sense has been seriously lacking over the past decade.

I've read all of the above posts on this thread,and all the different opinions,and at the end of the day another innocent childs life is taken because of Hate.
Bottom line is,bad parents,bad parenting,lack of discipline,divorced parents,social media leads to bad kids a lot of the time
Kids will mimic what parents do. therefore the child pays for the father's sins.
The fucking world is in Hospice and very few give a damn.
